Hotel Singular Socrates

I like too much this hostel. Is a goof option if you will stay at Polanco area. The staff is really kind.

I should've read the reviews rather than trusting that ANY hotel in the Polanco area would be of a certain standard. I stayed in one of the private rooms (no shared bathroom) on level 4, which the sun hits directly all day; it is a furnace in there with no air conditioning and a malfunctioning fan (takes 10 minutes to start!) that offers no relief from the disgusting heat. My iphone even displayed an overheating alert! The bathroom smelled of humidity, and ants came out of the shower drain. The shower itself flooded every morning. The ants were everywhere in the room, including the bed. The linen was stained, and there were long hairs everywhere. Yes, it was cheap, but this is unacceptable!

Very hot and uncomfortable in the room. Unsafe steps by the reception and entrance without a sign of caution. Often clean towels were not available. One small towel provided.

It was very noisy, no receptionist during the weekend. The cleaning stuff were drinking and had loud music until 1:00am. The only good thing about this place is the location.

This is a great hotel, with good and inexpensive food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), good service, super-well located, and, well, no complaints at all!

Nothing to like. In 4 days, I saw a receptionist once. The first day I could not get into the building because there was no receptionist and no one would answer answer a knock or a door bell. Many others had the same problem over the 4 days I was there. The receptionist even lied to say she was there, when there were witnessess to suggest otherwise. Disgraceful really!

I arrive at 1:00 pm and rang two door bells and banged of front door. No response. I leave and come back two hours later (I am walking around the streets with my luggage). I come back at 3:45 and the door is open. The lady at the front desk tells me she had been there the whole time. When I was here earlier, I hear the door bell ringing. The door is 15 meters from the front desk. She is not telling the truth. She would have hear the banging of the door and the door bell. I am then given the wrong room (wrong size bed). Later I come down to get the password for the Wifi. The front desk is abandoned again. I wait 10 minutes. Another guest arrives. She waits. Finally the maid shows up. The receptionist remains unseen. The same receptionist that had said she does not leave her post. Micky mouse operation in my opinion. The first time in Mexico I have received bad receptionist service.

No hot water, rooms very small, pictures on website misleading, very poor public areas, no love for detail.

Room is smaller than I thought but staff was friendly. Great location so I can’t complain.
