Djerba Sun Beach Hotel and Spa

We arrived just when the beach happened to be dirty, but that is hard to control (there was probably a storm nearby). On the first day, we had to deal with an issue regarding drinking water, as we only received one bottle of water per day. We solved this by refilling our water at the dispenser, but the staff didn't seem too happy about that. On the third day, we were surprised by an insect infestation in our room. We decided to address it with both the tour rep and the receptionist, who was far from pleasant. The receptionist told our rep that we spoke to him contemptuously and that he didn't like our behavior—even though we had simply brought the insect issue to his attention. We wanted to switch rooms, but they said there were no vacant rooms available at the moment and told us to come back at 12:00. However, after that interaction with the receptionist, we no longer had the energy to pursue it. They cleaned our room, and that was it. We ended up having to spray repellent into all the gaps in the balcony doors and windows ourselves. The bathroom was not in the best shape either—gaps between the tiles and a stench of mold. The air conditioning in the room was completely useless; we might as well have brought a fan and gotten the same effect. Honestly, calling it "air-conditioned" is a bit bold, as it was extremely clogged and dirty (who knows what was inside it). As for the food and dining, the coffee machine was filthy and clogged, the meat was quite often undercooked, and cutlery was frequently missing from the tables, while the glasses and tablecloths were dirty. We had to chase down the staff just to get them to do something about it. The evening entertainment was the exact same every single night—the same activities and the exact same songs. We expected cocktails to be included in the All-Inclusive package, but at one bar we were told it was not included, while at the adults-only pool bar they said it was. It seems they are confused about it themselves. One evening, we wanted to borrow tennis rackets from the animation club. The club was supposed to be open for another half an hour, yet we couldn't find a single animator to lend us the equipment. When we finally found an animator, he was flirting with young girls and refused to attend to us. As a result, we were only able to rent the tennis gear the next day when it was unbearably hot outside, making it completely useless. The least of all evils was that when we finally wanted to relax at the adult pool (a pool strictly FOR ADULTS), we were unpleasantly surprised to find young children swimming around us, screaming and splashing water everywhere. On top of that, during check-out, we found cockroaches near the entrance door. We have documented everything, so all of these claims can be easily verified. I must say we were deeply disappointed,

PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS REVIEW!!!! I am literally sitting in my room cooking as I type this. So… if you have already booked the holiday here and like myself wasn’t able to cancel, the best thing you can do is come prepared… here is my advice! A)Bring big fans. Am not joking, put a plug in one in your suit case!!!! You can basically say you don’t have AC. I am sitting in my room now and it’s about 28 maybe 30 degrees in here and no way of changing that. We say in the UK, we can’t fully embrace the hot weather cuz we are ill equipped and can’t get away from the heat… that’s the perfect description for this hotel. Now it’s Friday and the past 3 nights there has been an electricity black out for 3 hours from 11:30pm too 2:30am. When this happens the FAKE AC stops and the room goes to about 35/37 degrees. You wake up sweaty and thirsty. And can’t get to sleep cuz you are that tired. In these temperatures in the UK you would have gone and got a fan. These haven’t got one for you. Trust me!!!… put a big one in your bag! The staff is a mixed bunch. 50% ok, 50% you would love to right off cuz they are arrogant and rude! If you haven’t yet booked and thought “I’d read the reviews first” like a clever person, DO NOT BOOK!!!!! Aesthetically it’s not bad if you aren’t supper picky, but even being someone who isn’t that picky, how much does it cost to fix tiles??? The pool left a dirty rim on the wall like your bath water use to back in the day. Would I book this again??? HELL NO! Will I be coming back to Tunisia… I don’t really know. My happiest moments have been in the locals parts which is POOR and DEVELOPING!… but the people Wer nice. It was like the people who are in hospitality are resentful some how 🤷🏽‍♂️ I don’t know! I paid £650pp. Do I think you should get more for that price?…. The hotel not. You get by and the food is sound. The lack of AC and the black outs…. HELL YESSSSS! It’s relentless the heat otherwise!

I am in the hotel now. The reception staff, maintenance and cleaners are absolutely fantastic. They are very helpful and professional and have dealt with my requests and questions instantly. The pools are clean and there are plenty of sun beds. The room is spacious and very clean. The air conditioning is working very well. However, what is spoiling my experience is the restaurant. It’s quite difficult to get someone’s attention to get the cutlery or something to drink. The food is ok, it there is no nice fruit. The watermelons are not ripe and red and generally there is a very small selection of fruit. I tried a plum and a peach today - both not ripe and tasteless. It’s a surprise for me because I have been to a lot of hotels in Tunisia and the fruit and food were excellent. Also, coffee lovers - horrible coffee, unfortunately, which is also surprising when compared to other hotels in Tunisia.

I came to the Sun Beach Hotel for a family vacation at the end of May. The hotel was very friendly, the food was good, and the rooms were clean and serviced daily. The hotel staff, as well as the bartenders, were friendly. The entertainment team was well-coordinated and energetic. I'd especially like to thank Lucas, who became a part of this vacation and was always willing to help in any way he could. Thank you so much for this vacation, and we'll definitely see you in 2027!

The out door pools are lovely especially the adults only pool and bar. The cocktail outdoor bar was a lovely touch with nibbles, the barman worked hard. The restaurant was okay the food was lots of fish and chicken. We always found something to eat but I wouldn’t say it was the best food I have ever had but it’s all inclusive. They need to invest in more tableware and they definitely need more waiters the staff were exhausted. The entertainers were good fun and friendly offering you to dance with them Diago and Mona Lisa were lovely. We loved the beach party with a fire show and dancing in the sand. There is a disco in the evening which was great fun. Our bungalows were cleaned every day and near the private beach area we used the water sports, a banana boat ride £10 each. There are lots of camels and horses on the beach, Djerba sea is clear with sea **** and white sand. The beach bar attached to the private beach is free. We ate at the main beach bar a couple of times which was good value with great food and drinks and not bad prices. When we arrived there was one other British family, mostly French staying a few Tunisian and Dutch all friendly. When France played the World Cup they out French flags, BBQ and made a French flag cake when England played no flags 😂. We went to the market (bazaar) via taxi about £5 you need to be good at haggling or you will ripped off! We booked two trips opposite the front entrance, well organised. The first trip was a sunset tour of Djerba we went to the souks, the main souk the tour guide takes you to they take card and ripped us off you need to haggle hard, I would advise going to the smaller souks and try to break away from the tour guide. The different religions were interesting, Djerba hood art work was great and we had soft drinks, tea and coffee in Djerba hood. I would have preferred more time in Djerba hood than the souks because we had already visited the market. The pottery shop was nice with the man making pottery but again you need to haggle. The second trip was flamingo island on a pirate ship it was 40 degrees! Very hot but the beach is beautiful, there are horses, camels and quad bikes and soft drinks available cash only. We ran out of money and were stuck on an island! The food was lovely at lunchtime with limited water, the entertainment was not great would have be better to see a pirate stunt show. Flamingo island is one of the best beaches we have visited clear water, white sands, they charge you a hefty price for sun beds in Euros, take food and drinks with you and no alcohol allowed. We loved Djerba and preferred it to mainland Tunisia, the people were friendly and it has traditional charm. You cannot use Dina currency at the airport and get charged 10 Dina at the hotel, you need to take out money out with one transaction and there is 220 Dina hotel tax for 6 people. Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was very disappointing and, in our opinion, the service and facilities are far from what you would expect from a 4-star hotel (even a 3-star hotel) The food was mostly tasteless. The pasta was one of the few things that was acceptable, but only if you added salt yourself. It was also very difficult to find a clean table in the restaurant. Sometimes, if you started clearing the table yourself, someone would eventually come and help you. The restaurant service was extremely slow and disorganised. Drinks often arrived only when we had already finished eating. The waiters seemed overwhelmed, incompetent and often unfriendly or annoyed. They would sometimes start setting a table, stop halfway through and never come back. We repeatedly had to ask for glasses, napkins and other basic things. When we asked for a carafe of water, the staff often seemed irritated. There is only one drinks machine in the restaurant for all the guests, which regularly creates long queues. The waiters also use this machine, making the situation even worse, because they just go in front of you. When I asked for hot water, I was simply told to use the microwave myself. The air conditioning was also a major problem. Sometimes there was no air conditioning during lunch or breakfast. We also experienced several power cuts during our stay. This means showering in the dark, no air conditioning and only half of the food at the restaurant. They have generators, but apparently it is more important to keep the disco going than the restaurant. The reception staff were not helpful at all when we asked for assistance. When we exchanged money there, he even stole some money from us and didn’t want to give us a receipt of the exchange. Apparently the responsible of the reception does that more often.. You can’t get a second key for the room and don’t try to ask for a second bottle of water in your room (even with 3 people in the room), the reception responsible will tell you to go buy one outside. The tennis rackets were in very poor condition, especially the strings and grip. Several areas of the hotel clearly need renovation. The tiles around the swimming pools are extremely slippery. I nearly fell several times, which is a serious safety concern. On the positive side, the hotel was at least relatively clean overall. The waiter at the shisha bar, Hosni, was exceptionally friendly and helpful and was one of the only staff members who really seemed to know what he was doing. Overall, the hotel has potential, but the service, food, power cuts, air conditioning, maintenance and general organisation need significant improvement. We would not return and would not recommend this hotel.
