Tangyue Resort Reviews

This was my first time staying at this hotel, and I was assigned a room in Building 3. The soundproofing was absolutely terrible, not only between rooms but also for the French windows. Just outside my room's balcony, there's an open-air lounge area for the hotel downstairs, and I could clearly hear guests' conversations. Throughout the night, I kept hearing intermittent noises, like something scratching the wall, coming from upstairs, as well as conversations from other rooms, which made it very difficult to sleep. When I checked out, I mentioned this to the front desk. They told me that only my son and I were staying in Building 3 (so where were the noises coming from? The front desk suggested I must have been hearing noises from Building 2 🙃). The overall hotel design is quite odd; it's divided into three buildings. To dine or use the hot springs, you have to go to Building 1. Although there's a golf cart shuttle service, it's still inconvenient when there's a large crowd waiting for a ride. My son used the public hot springs and thought they were pretty good and well-equipped. That was the only positive aspect of this stay.

The staff are friendly, the accommodation quality is excellent, the mountain views are magnificent, and the breakfast is rich and varied, suitable for vegetarians. The privacy is high, but be careful on the mountain roads after rain!

The hotel is very well-managed and overall excellent. The food is just average though, and I hope they can improve it. The hot springs are great, and the public bath is also very good. The room is clean and tidy, and the hotel service is excellent.

A hidden gem! The hot spring in the room was a surprise. Dinner was fair and breakfast was great.

Overall, it was okay. The facilities are a bit old but still functional. The hot tub in the room filled up very slowly; it probably took half an hour to fill completely. The dining was just average.

Taian Tanqyue Resort is quite remote, so you can only eat at the hotel, which offers a buffet dinner.

Love the hot spring water in the room. Bathroom very spacious, with a separate shower. Will visit again if I have the chance. Dinner at the hotel is average, can be better. Lots of veg, however，I suspect the vegs are not properly washed, entire 1/8 cabbage wedge was served. I will not eat like that at home.

The buffet cost over a thousand per person, including service charge, but the food selection was pitifully small. Many dishes were even empty, and the staff didn't bother to replenish them even though it was still early. It felt like they were just trying to fleece you, probably because there aren't many other dining options nearby. 🙁

This stay was in the Pine View room, located in the newer annex. The facilities were new and clean, and the hot spring water quality was excellent. The overall lighting and environment were good. Unfortunately, the shower head was broken. The double bed was made of two single beds pushed together, and the mattresses felt quite old, with a noticeable bump where they joined but a dip in the middle, which made it hard to sleep comfortably. The breakfast offered a decent variety of Chinese and Western options. The staff were friendly and had a good attitude. I'd suggest they pay more attention to the quality control of the bamboo shoots served with the congee; they had a strong rancid smell, as if they'd been sitting for a long time.

The only good thing about Tangyue was the view from the room. I've worked in kitchens and my husband has too as well as in hotels and this place felt like an episode of Kitchen Nightmares crossed with a David Lynch film and Faulty Towers. On the Trip app they said to contact the resort via email to arrange a shuttle from stations or airports. I found 2 email addresses and emailed them both multiple times with no response to anything - that was the first red flag. They had written our check our date incorrectly and it took two conversations of 30 minutes each to confirm that we didn't need to pay for another night as we were checking out on the day we initially requested. They kept saying that you'll need to pay online for another night but we didn't need one. Finally that got sorted. The first night we bought the set menu for dinner at the restaurant and they charged us, but then said they made an error in putting the price in their system so then they tried to refund our card and then tried to charge us immediately but the refund had not gone through. Very bold assuming that everyone has two lots of dinner money in their account. The kicker for this was the set menu was so terribly bad (an attempt at Western style fine dining - 6 courses for bad tasting and bad quality food that was truly awful and fine dining is kinda boring). The first course was chicken wings stuffed with cod roe - the chicken was cooked long ago, not kept warm and served cold and the roe was so gross and artificially pink. The main was a serving grey pork chops that with the translation was alleged 'Iberico'. We could have excused the food if it was not expensive but it was it was ludicrously expensive for how bad it was. This entire fiasco was course not helped by language barriers and using Google to help with translating but this took 45 mins to sort out and we ended up having to pay for the dinner twice. And my husband got food poisoning from the food and was ill all night long. So husband payed for it 3 times technically. They offered us a free cup of coffee for double charging us rather than saying we can sort it out another time but little did they know we had paid for all inclusive breakfast so the coffee was already free. The next day, husband staying resting after his food poisoning. There was not much to eat and we didn't want to chance the restaurant again (the only place to get food on that part of the mountain) so we bought packet noodles and Doritos from the vending machine. The last day of our trip, we wanted assistance to book a train back to Taipei and the girl who 'helped' us was sniffling the whole time and not wearing a mask and ended up just telling us to go to 7-11 to buy tickets. The open-air baths were pretty nice, but they had heaps of mineral build-up everywhere and dead leaves and detritus, so it felt a bit gross. Then I got the flu from staying there. Maybe we stayed at a strange off-peak time of year and the kitchen was doing experimental dishes, and the staff they had on where not their normal staff. I don't know but I strongly recommend you avoid this place.

Love the calm and peaceful environment away from the city hustle… indeed a relaxing days spend enjoying hot spring indoor and outdoor… friendly service form the hotel staff as well.

Comfortable

The hotel is very Japanese-style and quite beautiful. My room included breakfast and dinner, which was a great value. The room was clean and spacious, and the bathtub was quite large. The outdoor area was also beautiful for taking photos. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
