The diverse hot springs, well-prepared rooms, and excellent quality onsens offer a great experience. The friendly, English-speaking staff provide excellent service and recommend local activities.

hospitality and attentiveness is top notch, a small gift and greeting note was given to my wife during dinner time, as the staff noticed her birth date from her passport as we checked-in. onsen quality is excellent, skin became silky smooth, a total of 7 public and private onsens are more than sufficient. food is delicious, no expensive ingredients, but prepared whole heartedly, rice grown by themselves, so are preparation of pickles. most of the staff here speak fairly good english, so communication is of no problem. despite a 300-year old inn, facilities are well maintained, not suitable for elderly as there are quite some stairs to climb. cleanliness is outstanding, i deliberately checked the wooden beams where no one will normally notice, they are all dust free! overall, we are given the impression that every staff here is fully dedicated to his or her own part of work, and this collective effort explains the continual success of this accommodation.

We stayed here three nights with the family (teenage girls). It is all you might wish for in a traditional Japanese Inn. The rooms are simply furnished as you would expect and the futons made up each evening. No showers in the rooms - that is what the onsens (hot springs) are for!. These are beautiful as you would expect and though I speak passable Japanese, they have good English explanations. Two things really stood out for me - firstly the service is genuine and superb. Secondly the food is really special - local ingredients and fresh seasonal food prepared with care and attention to detail in the traditional Japanese kaiseki style. It would be top rated to get this level of cuisine in the UK. They asked before if we didn’t want to eat anything (raw horse meat being a regional speciality) and we left the rest to them. The area is stunning and sadly we were scuppered by a typhoon for much of the stay and so had to really slow down and enjoy!

I stayed at Yuzuki on the night of March 30th. I wrote "To put it mildly, it was the best" in the title, but I was wrong. "To put it mildly, it was the best." My eldest son's birthday was a few days before, so when I made the reservation, they prepared a cake for us. The dessert for dinner was a birthday cake. This was also delicious. This meal was more than twice as delicious, not only because of the taste of the food, but also because of the atmosphere of the room and the explanations of the man who served us. I forgot to ask his name. I wish I could have asked his name and told him "Thank you." The other people also helped create a gentle atmosphere at the inn, so thank you very much. Breakfast was also delicious. Also, maybe because there were only a few rooms to begin with, we hardly met anyone in the bath. I thought it was a private room. It was like that in the evening, at night, and in the morning, so I was able to take a really long bath. On the way back, after checking out, I had my car parked in the hot spring town while waiting, and they were very polite in taking care of my car keys. I think this is an inn that I would definitely like to visit again.

This historic inn offers excellent service. The hot springs have a slimy quality that is gentle on the skin. There are about seven baths, including open-air baths and family baths. There are two types of hot springs, but the quality of the springs has changed due to the earthquake. The food is delicious and the quantity is appropriate. At Kurokawa Onsen, it is often difficult to drive and park your car, but there is a parking space in front of the inn, which is a big advantage. The only drawback is that there is no elevator as it is a historic inn, so you have to use the stairs to get around. As long as you don't have any foot problems, this is a hot spring inn that will leave you satisfied.

As the name "Okyakuya" suggests, it is a historical inn. I used it for a day trip bath. I used the open-air bath, and the sulfuric acid spring water was light and felt good on the skin. It's also good if it's a little lukewarm. It gives a sense of formality, such as around the entrance.
