Octant Vila Monte ★★★★★

📍 Sitio dos, Moncarapacho

"We were looking for a place to stay in the Algarve which was away from the crowds of budget tourists and we definitely found this with Octant Vila Monte. The hotel is pure relaxation and luxury from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. The hotel is really multiple buildings set in beautiful gardens. We enjoyed just walking from our room to breakfast or up to reception through different parts of the garden. The adults only pool is also perfect for couples without kids. Every member of staff we encountered from reception, waitstaff, cleaners and ground staff were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is a little expensive (especially in peak periods) but why not treat yourself? The slight disadvantage of staying here is there is nothing much within a comfortable walk of the hotel and you will need a taxi or car to get out and about. This is not any trouble though and the hotel can organize a car to take you to the local village (Moncarapacho) or down to Olhão. Moncarapacho is a quaint small village which is definitely worth a visit. There is a great local restaurant call O António. We walked in for lunch one day and returned the next day for dinner. Although we did walk in I would recommend organizing a taxi via the hotel (drop of and pre arranged pickup) as there is no real footpath for pedestrians between the hotel and the town and it would be more difficult to walk at night. The restaurant is not open every day so check before you go. Olhão is only 15 min by car and on the Ria Formosa where you can take boat trips out onto the water and nearby islands. The hotel staff also recommended several good restaurants here for an eventing meal. Highly recommended and worth paying the extra."

📍 Urbanizacao Ria Formosa, 12, Moncarapacho

"A modern hotel comprising only 10 rooms in a quiet village location. Staff, rooms and amenities all first class. The views over the Ria Formosa and a large flock of flamingos was lovely, particularly from the infinity pool. All rooms appear to share the same view. Bikes were available from the hotel free of charge to explore the surrounding area which is particularly great for bird watchers. Nearby Fuseta is well worth a visit and from there you can catch a small ferry or water taxi to the neighbouring islands. Only slight negative is that there are no nice bars or restaurants in walking distance. For us it was a perfect place to relax after a busy week at Quinta do Logo."

📍 Sitio Da Maragota, Moncarapacho

"The place is dying and in dire need of repairs. Things like the front door doesn't open to the reception area and many tiles need to be replaced around the pool. The pool was not even operational or full. The laundry room is a joke full of dirty laundry and machines that don't work. There is a falling down event tent which is an eyesore. The property is not maintained properly. No one seems to care that it is maintained or not."

📍 Sitio Da Fornalha, Moncarapacho

"It is a very beautiful place, but the owners manage with volunteers instead of hiring employees. Although the volunteers are friendly, during my conversation with them, I learned that they and the animals are treated badly. When you think about how hygienically can a volunteer clean your sheets and makes your bed, question marks remain in your mind. I'm sorry for the volunteers who had a bad experience there."

"The house is great, but it is missing some details that would make it excellent. Very little could be improved, it is missing some comfortable seats on the terrace and a table to be able to eat outside, it was also missing some kitchen accessories, for ex"

Octant Vila Monte ★★★★★
"Just returned from a late November stay at Vila Monte. We are frequent visitors. It is a well maintained hotel in beautiful grounds. The staff continue to provide excellent levels of service but you are made to feel relaxed and not fussed over. The 30 C heated outdoor pool was a complete joy this year (incidentally it was a warmer temperature here than the Conrad Algarve pool where we had stayed a few days before). We were here 4 nights and I swam early morning and late afternoon each day - once as the moon and stars were coming out. Bliss. I always had the pool to myself. We are due back here again in March - out of season when it is quiet is our preference. The weather can be hit and miss in November but we had warm days and only needed jackets in the evenings. Walking in the sunshine along Barril beach is one of our favourite activities - arriving back to the UK and freezing temperatures has been a bit of a shock!"

"The whole stay was fantastic, Tom ,Belinda, Sam and the volunteers couldn't do enough for our family. Lauren, who was the chef her food was outstanding. Our family felt so relaxed on the holiday that we can't wait to come back. There was so much onsite for everyone to do that we felt like we didn't need to go off-site. . They made us feel like a part of their family. It is made very safe for those with special needs that we could actually sit and relax."
