Splendid Hotel la Torre

Splendid location. A little dated 4-star hotel. A beautiful renovation would make it unique in terms of location and services. Greater flexibility with regard to guests would be desirable, small details such as breakfast which is often not included but which for a business customer who stays overnight every month of the year could be contemplated ... small details that would make the structure more attractive. You cannot live on tourism or income alone. The swimming pool guys were very good. Mr. Maurizio at the reception was impeccable and professional.

Accommodation, cleaning, availability, familiarity and humanity ... are basic ingredients (unrelated) for a ”discounted” dish to offer guests. Sabbath and Sunday 10/11 February spent with two team groups (about 50 people) Thanks to director Massimo and his colleagues Stefania, Rosy, Salvatore, Danilo and Jacomo...e to all those who worked behind the ”Quints”. Francesco Lamanna.

We spent 7 nights here at the start of September and it felt like we’d been there for weeks when we left, so relaxed were we. We’d gone to Palermo as our friend was getting married but wanted to stay outside of the city. We couldn’t have picked a better hotel. Prior to going I’d emailed to ask for a hairdresser recommendation. This was sorted easily and Giuseppe’s sister came to the hotel and put my hair up. She did a wonderful job. The hotel is small and so quiet. We were in room 3 which backed on to the kitchen. I’m a light sleeper and did worry but the soundproofing is excellent. We never heard anything. I slept well every night! The air con was excellent which was much needed due to high temperatures and the room was lovely. It was cleaned every day. The pool is a welcome respite when it’s hot and there’s plenty of loungers and umbrellas. It is close to the beach and the hotel has a key to a gate that cuts off some time. There’s a supermarket about 5 mins walk. It’s small but has everything. Ask staff for recommendations for a local pizza place but book it. You can takeaway too. Nicest pizza I’ve ever had. The hotel’s restaurant is locally known as high quality. We ate there twice and the food is spectacular. Breakfasts are beautiful. If they have sugar donuts get two!! In fact get 2 of everything!! What makes this hotel so special are the staff. They are all fabulous and go out of their way to help and just be friendly. The owner is the same. Jussi, Constanza, Jason, Giuseppe and Valentina THANK YOU. The other staff are just as good but I did not catch their names so sorry! Jussi summed up this hotel. She said she loves to work there which to me says it all. If staff are happy then so are guests. The owner is looking at getting the pool heated next year and considering Christmas openings. I will be going back.

What could have been a great end to an amazing trip ended up a disaster that the hotel could have easily been proactive and avoided on many levels. When we arrived our room air conditioning compressor was turning on and off every 30 seconds. This did not start after we checked in, this was happening before we arrived. The room was uncomfortably warm, the ac was not working property. The repairman arrived after 5pm. When we returned from dinner we noted the compressor was still turning on and off every 30 seconds, but the room was cooler. We were trying to determine how to sleep with the constant on off of the compressor. Then we noticed flies in the room. There were no windows open, they were coming from the ac ducts. They were not house flies, they looked like flying termites. We began to kill the flies thinking there must be a finite number of them. We were wrong, they kept coming. Too many to kill, too many to sleep with. This is all happening between 9pm and 10pm, 10 hours after we arrived. The woman on duty contacted management and conveyed that we would not be charged for one night and that they arranged for us to go to another hotel. At approximately 10pm we packed up our things, vacated the room and walked to the hotel. The next morning we walked back with our things at 7:30am in the rain. We stored our bags and left for a tour of Palermo. There was one room available for us when we returned. We checked in and found that the room did not have a balcony. The window facing the road did not latch, the closing mechanism was faulty and did not close tight. The road is noisy with cars and pedestrians until late into the night, like 2am. Having a window that closes tightly is important. We did not feel the room was an upgrade, and would not have expected to pay more for any room we had to move to from the one we reserved. When we checked out there was no mention of a credit for the room we had to vacate at 10pm and move to another hotel. There was no understanding from the woman who checked us out as to what had transpired, nothing. We were asked to contact you. Why wasn’t this dealt with so that we were not inconvenienced by having to contact you after our return home, and spending 30 minutes going back and forth with the woman checking us out? We expected to receive a credit for the night we were not able to occupy our room, as we were told by the night manager the evening of the incident, and we were not expecting to pay for a hotel that we had to move to due to nothing we caused. You responded ”it was a surprise to us as well, but this is probably the disadvantage of being surrounded by a wonderful garden.” A bad ac compressor and dozens and dozens of flies coming out of the ac duct into our room when we are ready to go to bed had nothing to do with your garden. Based on the multiple issues with the room, and how the credit we were promised for one night stay was ignored and brushed aside is bad management. I would not return and do not rec
