📍 Wellawaya, Moneragala

"The hotel is very naturally situated in a rice paddy, with only 25 buildings in total, resulting in a very low density, making it suitable for those who like to get close to nature. However, it should be noted that some basic rooms do not have air conditioning, and the shower and toilet are outdoors. If you prefer, please book a room with air conditioning."

Grand Tamarind Lake ★★★★

📍 Kandasuridugama Raja Mawatha, Kataragama

"Had to wait 20 minutes for a hot bottle of beer to get to the table. Didn't understand English in any area of hotel staffing. Air conditioner in the room sounded like a freight train all night. Replaced two bar fridges before we got one that worked. Monkeys defacated and urinated alll over the veranda so we couldn't sit and enjoy the view. They were aggressive climbing on the veranda and smashing against the door trying to get in. No warning signs. Food cold and small variety. All vegetables served raw and meats dry. Bugs everywhere through your room. Reception can't understand and don't have the base information for English. Only good thing beds comfortable and room big."

From the beginning of reservation upto the time of check out, the service provided by all the employees at Mandara Rosen was amazing. Their meals were amazing, especially the deser bar. The day we went for the Yala safari they packed our breakfast and handed over to us before we leave. Rooms are well maintained and one if the rooms had an AC issue and they fixed it immediately. Recommend this hotel for your stays in Kataragama or Yala area. Had an amazing time. Thank you Sudesh and the staff including the hotel Manage who himself checked on our comfort. Will visit this place again when visiting Kataragama area. Thanks again."

Nice dining area and relaxing area at the front. Most importantly, very nice river is just passing by this property called "Kirindi Oya". "Mailagama Cinnamon Residence in Kataragama is a delightful fusion of homestay warmth. Every meal is home-cooked, tailored to guests' preferences, and made from the freshest local produce, offering an authentic taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. I highly recommend Mailagama Cinnamon Residence for anyone visiting Kataragama or Sella Kataragama. It's not just a place to stay but an experience to cherish. The Den at Yala

"Excellent stay with wonderful hosts who went above and beyond; they even provided a packed breakfast with coffee for our 5AM morning safari and a cooked breakfast when we returned. Dinner was excellent and so plentiful! The rooms were brand-new, spotlessly clean, and had everything you needed, including nice linen. The location is perfect—only 15 minutes from the Katagamuwa entrance to Block 1, which was great as it wasn’t too busy!"

Ella Nine Peaks Hotels in Moneragala

Ella Nine Peaks

"What an amazing find, such a beautiful villa with breathtaking views. The hosts are incredible, couldn’t do more for us and food was exceptional! We were welcomed, looked after and even taken to see where the food is farmed truly amazing experience! Is is a little way outside Ella so you need a vehicle, but if looking for an “off the grid” style location this is perfect!"

Yala Safari Camping Hotels in Moneragala

Yala Safari Camping

"Overall, it's good. Children pay an additional $50 per person in the store. Remember to turn off all the lights when you leave the room, otherwise you will be full of bugs when you come back at night! All 6 rooms we checked in that day were Chinese. The boss was very enthusiastic and all food and drinks were included. I drank more than ten bottles of Coke at dinner and thought there would be an additional charge. For the safari on the second day, the boss asked for a price of 100 US dollars per person, which was much more expensive than outside. For convenience, I booked it with the boss. We will set off at 5:30 the next morning, and the boss will bring sandwiches and drinks, and enjoy them at the beach at the end."

"Pros: Quiet and private environment, beautiful scenery, good quality breakfast and room service, good service. Cons: Arrived around 3pm, and waited for a full hour to check in, almost collapsed. The room has no air conditioning and simple facilities. Open bathroom, don't take a shower at night, it will be cold."

Grand Tamarind Lake ★★★★
"Stay at this Hotel at your own risk, while accommodation was ok with all the ammenites like safe & wifi connection, clean & serviced thoroughly the food was awful and the resturant staff rude and disinterested in anything remotely resembling service, unless you were Indian. The location was certainly ok and we managed some lovely works outside the Hotel grounds. Pool area was fine but the pool itself was encrusted with dirt about 2ft below the waterline. In all with a good clean and some staff training this could once again be a lovely place to stay. We are surprised at the 4 star rating. In our view this Hotel should rate as three stars."

Kalu's Hideaway Udawalawe ★★★
"Incredible location, lovely hotel. Amenities were super - the food was so good! Kalu was there when we went and was so kind to come and talk to our group. Really close to the National Park too so the morning safari was great to do from here. Butterfly gardens and all the fruit and vege gardens on site were well maintained, and there is even a small playground for kids. A perfectly family friendly hotel."

"Very quaint and secluded property very close to the safari park. Individual cabins were very spacious, great AC, private porch for sitting and the outdoor shower and bathroom was very cool! The staff were very friendly and accommodating as well. There is not much to do out in the wilderness but after a no day of safari it was nice to go to Hantara to relax."

"A small‑scale hotel in the middle of nature. The rooms are simple, which actually makes them feel original. The air conditioning works very well. The food in the hotel is prepared with local ingredients and tastes great. The manager of the hotel often acts as the guide for both the boat and jeep safaris. He’s a very pleasant person who knows a lot, explains things well, and seems to know every path in the area. The staff is very friendly too. I can highly recommend this place."

Mandara Rosen Yala, Kataragama ★★★★
"Whilst I’ve stayed at Mandara Rosen many times, I’ve honestly never taken the time to write a review. But this time, something felt different — and I thought it was time to finally pen my two cents. In the past, my experiences have always been lovely. The staff have been helpful, the rooms clean and well-kept, and the atmosphere calming — a perfect space to unwind after a day in Kataragama. The pool has always been a personal highlight, especially after being out in the hot sun during religious observances. It’s been a place I’ve recommended without hesitation. The food, too, has never disappointed. I remember the buffet spreads — generous, delicious, and satisfying in every sense. Something for everyone, and nothing to complain about. This time, however, was a shorter visit. I was in Kataragama briefly, with two things planned — lunch at the hotel, and arrangements for a day room so those of us traveling (a group of five) could freshen up before heading back to Colombo. I had called ahead and was informed that a day room would be provided for Rs. 15,000, which I agreed to. But once at the hotel, that offer was off the table. Instead, I was told I’d need to take two rooms — totaling Rs. 30,000 — just for a quick change and refresh. That felt unreasonable. In today’s context, where most travelers aren’t staying overnight and hotels are struggling to fill rooms, this seemed like a short-sighted way to recover costs — at the guest’s expense. I did have lunch at the restaurant, and once again the food was fantastic. Though it was à la carte this time (understandable given low occupancy), it was still flavorful and well prepared. The restaurant staff were kind and welcoming, and I appreciated their service. In the end, I went to another hotel that offered a day room at nearly one-fifth the price. A hotel of similar standard was also willing to offer one room at the same rate of Rs. 15,000, as initially promised here. Unfortunately, the only reason I didn’t go there was the distance — otherwise I would have. What saddens me is that instead of gaining business, Mandara Rosen lost it that day. All for the sake of an extra room rate. And that’s the only reason I’m giving this a 4-star rating — not for the hospitality, the setting, or the food, which remain excellent — but because it felt like the focus shifted from understanding the guest to maximizing the margin."

Lavendish Okrin Hotel ★★★★
"Peaceful location and outstanding service. We booked two double rooms but were thoughtfully upgraded to spacious family rooms to accommodate a large arriving group — and we were never disturbed. Each room was large, spotless, and comfortable, with two double beds and an efficient AC. We were also granted an early check-in even though official time is 14:00. We requested vegetarian rice-and-curry for lunch since we were visiting the Kataragama Maha Devalaya in te evening — the meal was wholesome, home-cooked and delicious. Lunch was à la carte; breakfast and dinner were buffet-style and well presented. Driver quarters are available (first-come, first-served). The staff were friendly and courteous throughout. Special thanks to Ms. Anusha in the restaurant for her helpful, refreshingly positive attitude. Overall — a very pleasant stay; highly recommended."
