Jetwing Kaduruketha
9.5 (67 reviews)

Jetwing Kaduruketha ★★★★★

📍 Wellawaya, Moneragala

"The hotel is very naturally situated in a rice paddy, with only 25 buildings in total, resulting in a very low density, making it suitable for those who like to get close to nature. However, it should be noted that some basic rooms do not have air conditioning, and the shower and toilet are outdoors. If you prefer, please book a room with air conditioning."

Gal Oya Lodge

Gal Oya Lodge ★★★★

📍 893M+3P, Moneragala

"Hidden in the forest lies this beautiful haven of understated luxury which also cares deeply about the eco system it inhabits. The main buildings were constructed traditionally- airy, good to look at and spacious. As was our gorgeous lodge with our own little infinity pool. We enjoyed a walk with the Veddha leader - a magical experience- and a wonderful boat safari. Wild elephants bathing in the lake undisturbed, eagles, crocodiles, even a tiger sighting. We had engaging, knowledgeable guides too. In fact all the staff were professional and friendly and the food delicious. It was lovely to see how excited the staff were to show us a Sri Lankan Frog Owl on our last evening. As pleased as their guests! Highly recommended. Thank you Gal Oya!"

Grand Tamarind Lake

Grand Tamarind Lake ★★★★

📍 Kandasuridugama Raja Mawatha, Kataragama

"Absolutely amazing hotel to stay in Katharagama. Hospitality and the customer service is top notch. The place is located overlooking a lake which js serene. Food is the best in the area both portion n quality..it's a lady chef who is running the show Chef Wasana does amazing job with the food and Dusuni who was the FnB who took care of us. Third time here and thought they deserve a comment..love it you should try it too."

Kynrock Hotels & Resorts
8.8 (25 reviews)

Kynrock Hotels & Resorts ★★★★★

📍 Paranakanda road, Arama Patumaga, Kataragama

"The hotel has a beautiful building and setting, rooms are big enough and staff is friendly, but that is about where it stopped for us. Our booking was not made or lost, we luckily got two rooms, took about 30min to get ready, safe was locked, no toilet paper and shower went cold after 2 min. Smaller bed than expected and room looks and feels like it is neglected. Bar only has one red and one white wine and one beer, although the bar menu is about 1 full page of items. On the dinner menu about 30% of the menu was not available. I must say the dishes that was available was very tasty. The whole hotel lacks a vibe, that touch that makes one feel home is just not there and more availability of F&B Proximity to nature reserve is great, but I think one can do a bit better and still be in the same area."

Jungle Paradise
9.5 (41 reviews)

Jungle Paradise ★★★

📍 Walawegama Road 2066 1/2, Ekamuthugama, Usweliara, Moneragala

"Out of all the overnight stays we did in Sri Lanka this was one of our favourites and and it was also the cheapest. The grounds are immaculate, the pool is well maintained, the rooms are large, clean and functional with jungle views. It is 10 minutes from Udawalawe National Park! Best of all, the food was outstanding! Our whole stay for one night with breakfast & dinner was £62! I highly recommend"

River Cottage
9.4 (11 reviews)

River Cottage ★★★

📍 Hadapanagala Regional Forest Office Road, Wellawaya - Tanamalwila Rd, Hadapanagala, Moneragala

"Excellent place to stay, the AC rooms are very spacious and beautifully furnished. From the veranda you have a nice view of the garden and the sound of the river and peacocks all add to the magic. Clean rooms, good shower and a very good breakfast and dinner. The place is new so the photos do match, so no surprises there. Service both friendly and professional. Nearby temple is worth visiting and the road to it has some nice views as well."

Centauria Wild
8.7 (56 reviews)

Centauria Wild ★★★★

📍 CVP5+WQJ, Katupilagama, Moneragala

"After a long train/car journey from Nuwara Eliya we had an enjoyable afternoon safari at Udawalawe, before checking in to this picturesque hotel nestled off the main road, among verdant trees. Monkeys were in them, as were chipmunks and birds (unluckily no elephants). The room had a pleasant view of the reservoir, and birdsong was plentiful. Staff were friendly, but Wifi is patchy except if at the reception."

Kalu's Hideaway Udawalawe
8.8 (47 reviews)

Kalu's Hideaway Udawalawe ★★★

📍 CR8W+CG3, Walawegama Rd, Moneragala

"Boutique safari lodge owned by famous World Cup Sri Lankan cricketer Romesh Kaluwitharana. He is present at the hotel ensuring the guests are happy. He has created a relaxed and charming atmosphere with a cosy bar and restaurant. Two pools overlooking the river are a good size. They are growing their own organic fruits and vegetables which is served for all meals and there is a butterfly garden which is very enchanting. They are expanding so there is some new buildings that are being worked on but there was no noise or disturbances. Very friendly and welcoming. A great base for Uladawale NP."

Governor's Camp Udawalawe
9.2 (8 reviews)

Governor's Camp Udawalawe ★★

📍 Kiriibbanara, Sooriyawawa Road, Moneragala

"This is by far the worst service I have ever experienced. The location might be acceptable, but everything else—safety, food, and service—is absolutely terrible. The staff have no respect whatsoever for customers, completely lacking even the basics of hospitality. The so-called welcome drink was not fresh and literally undrinkable. The food was horrible, poorly prepared, and not even sufficient for the number of guests. It was an absolute embarrassment. If you value your time, money, and dignity, do not choose this place under any circumstances. Go here only if you have no other option—otherwise, you’ll deeply regret it."

Wild Glamping Gal Oya - Thema Collection Hotels in Moneragala

Wild Glamping Gal Oya - Thema Collection

"Wild Glamping Gal Oya was our second Thema Group property (after Knuckles Wild Glamping), near the Gal Oya National Park which is centred around the 70 year old Senanayake reservoir. The resort features 5 family tents and 15 doubles, each under thatch or timber roof with heated showers and flush WC. The family tents have two rooms, and should sleep 4 comfortably. Alarm clocks are not needed as the local peacocks do an admirable job! There is mains power but no WiFi, and only intermittent mobile coverage so just lock away your phone and reconnect with life. The property has a generous pool with sunbeds, pool towels and sunshades, surrounded by lawn and next to the central bar and restaurant area and the reception. On arrival guests are allocated a host who looks after them, ours was Pathun, a trainee naturalist. He conducted our farm walk to introduce the concept - the property is part of a working farm, with both the local community and the indigenous Vedda people actively involved. We had family villa 15, which we think has the best position - set back (with 14) from the central facilities, with views over paddy fields and sunsets over Monkey Mountain. We undertook 4 activities - a boat safari, a jungle walk with the Vedda, a boat trip on the local village reservoir and a trek up Monkey Mountain, all of which Pathun accompanied us on. All were worthwhile, it's worth noting that the Monkey Mountainm trek is quite demanding and requires a certain level of fitness, but the views are stunning. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, and we must make special mention of Pravithra, who seemed to be everywhere from the bar, restaurant to the spa (great ayurvedic massage!), and the kitchen team who produced a wonderful range of dishes. WGG is a wonderful resort for a 3-4 day escape, with or without family."

Hantara Udawalawa Hotels in Moneragala

Hantara Udawalawa

"Hantara Udawalawe is a fantastic boutique hotel with an eco-friendly vibe, using sustainable practices and local materials. The staff was warm and attentive, making our family of 13 feel welcome. The food was delicious, especially the traditional Sri Lankan dishes. Perfect for large groups with its smart layout. Highly recommend for a relaxing, green getaway!"

Elephant Rest Udawalawa Hotels in Moneragala

Elephant Rest Udawalawa

"We are a family of 4 adults and stayed here for one night having travelled down rom Ella. We loved it and really appreciated the swimming pool to cool down. This is brilliant value, close to the park entrance, tastefully decorated, great food and helpful staff who organised the safari for us. Would recommend."

Makini Bush Camp, Yala Hotels in Moneragala

Makini Bush Camp, Yala

"What an amazing property. Rustic with a sense of luxury, which adds to its charm. Well-appointed tented chalets with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food was lovely. They run their own safaris with each tent having its own private vehicle and informative guide. Close by to Yala NP. Great Sundowners!"

Mailagama Cinnamon Residence Hotels in Moneragala

Mailagama Cinnamon Residence

"Mailagama Cinnamon Residence in Kataragama is a delightful fusion of homestay warmth. The rooms are equipped with all the comforts one could desire: soft beds, air conditioning, hot showers, and a TV with a diverse channel selection. Take advantage of the culinary experience. Every meal is home-cooked, tailored to guests' preferences, and made from the freshest local produce, offering an authentic taste of Sri Lankan cuisine. The serene views of lush paddy fields and the tranquil environment make this place a perfect retreat. The hospitality the Inbaraj and staff provide is second to none; they truly go above and beyond to make you feel at home, ensuring a memorable stay. I highly recommend Mailagama Cinnamon Residence for anyone visiting Kataragama or Sella Kataragama. It's not just a place to stay but an experience to cherish. A perfect blend of comfort, culture, and genuine hospitality. A big thank you to Dr Indara, who made everything seamless to ensure we had the best hospitality experience."

Big Game - Udawalawe by Eco Team Hotels in Moneragala

Big Game - Udawalawe by Eco Team

"A very nice experience sleeping in the jungle. We had a deluxe tent for 2 nights, which was a great intermezzo during our honeymoon in fancy hotels. The fan in the tent keeps you cool in the warm nights. The space is obviously small, but sufficient for a short while. If you are afraid of animals, this is not for you. We for example had a frog in our tent, which was nevertheless quickly removed by the staff. The barbecue dinner with candle light around the bonfire was a whole new experience to us. It was great, yet you do have to eat fast as otherwise it might be spoiled by insects. The shower was not the best, but this should also not be expected of a camping trip. In the evening, the staff organised an evening walk around the camp. We really recommend this: we saw a tarantula, held a snake, and spotted several other night animals."

Funky Leopard Safari Lodge Bordering Yala National Park Hotels in Moneragala

Funky Leopard Safari Lodge Bordering Yala National Park

"The lodge is a long bumpy ride on a dirt road off the main road to the nature reserve. The room was clean, but more like a dorm or camp room room than a lodge room. We were planning an early morning safari jeep ride, so were looking for a location near the park entrance. The distance from the main road doubled the time getting to the park. There were other accommodations on the main road. We would deffinitely not stay here again."

"Pros: Quiet and private environment, beautiful scenery, good quality breakfast and room service, good service. Cons: Arrived around 3pm, and waited for a full hour to check in, almost collapsed. The room has no air conditioning and simple facilities. Open bathroom, don't take a shower at night, it will be cold."

Centauria Wild ★★★★
"We had a wonderful stay at Centuria Wild in Sri Lanka. The accommodation has a traditional, slightly older charm, which really adds to the authentic experience of being surrounded by nature. What truly made our stay stand out was the exceptional service. The staff, and especially the manager Damitha, treated us with genuine courtesy and respect, consistently going above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. Our room had a beautiful view overlooking the lake, which made for a peaceful and relaxing setting. Although we didn’t get a chance to use the pool due to returning late from our safari, it looked pleasant and inviting. We were also impressed with the gym facilities—the space was generous, with more than enough equipment to enjoy a proper workout. Overall, a memorable stay with warm hospitality that really made a difference."
