This time, because the hotels near the Mong Cai border crossing were fully booked (the one starting with M), I stayed at the Lai Lai Hotel. Service: Good. It was my first time staying there, and a staff member escorted me to my room from the front desk. Some front desk staff could communicate in Mandarin. Bonus points! Environment: The hotel's design is old-fashioned, with a 70s/80s vibe, even the staff's clothing reflects this style. Smoking is allowed in the rooms, which is more welcoming to smokers. The cleanliness is acceptable; those with low expectations will find it acceptable. Facilities: Just before the elevator to the rooms are the entrances to the KTV, sauna, and massage services. The decor has a very vintage nightclub feel. I'll try them out next time and report back. Overall, a good experience. I would choose to stay there again if given the chance.

The hotel staff is friendly and the food is delicious. However, the water pressure is a bit weak, and the walls are thinner than in other hotels, so you can hear noise from the next room.

Breakfast service is quite poor. You can book a room without breakfast to save money and then go out to eat. Food in Mong Cai center is quite rich and can be completely replaced.

Chinese hotels have casinos, karaoke, old rooms with few breakfast dishes, and temporary massage at quite high prices

It's a good value for money considering the hotel facilities.
