Monte Gordo Hotels with Bars

On first impression the hotel seemed dated but it is meant to be ,it has a charm all of its own . Our room was a bit small but adequate . We loved the old fashioned furniture but I can imagine it’s not to everyone’s taste .The bathroom had been updated .In all it was very clean and on the plus side our bed was very comfy .Location is fantastic ,pool area is spacious and relaxing and we were always able to get a sun bed .We found the staff always helpful but not in your face . Breakfast was perfect with lots of choice .We have already booked to go in May !

Vila Real and Monte Gordo are two interesting destinations for practicing sports (running, cycling, golf, etc.) and this Hotel has the ideal characteristics for it. Location close to sports facilities, rooms prepared for a good rest and a breakfast with healthy, quality options suitable for athletes.

Have just returned home after a week at this hotel. I noticed it had mixed reviews. My personal opinion of this hotel is it was perfect for my needs. The hotel is very clean and spacious. My room and bathroom were spotless. Free air con, free safe. A very decent size fridge that kept contents very cool. Free wifi all over the hotel and no problems with it. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. As we’re the bar staff. A “hi” to Martin who was super sweet. A huge dining area that was very clean. Lots of choice for breakfast. Cereals, yogurts, fruit, breads, cakes, cheese, meats, preserves and honey etc. There was also cooked bacon, sausages, fried and scrambled eggs, beans, mushrooms etc. Toaster at hand for toast. The bread rolls are baked fresh in the kitchen each morning and are delicious. My one and only negative is the choice of teabags. Needed three to produce one cup of weak tasteless tea. There’s a large sunbathing area with good quality sun loungers. The pool was stunning too. I would most definitely return to this lovely and well run hotel.

Basic hotel, rooms nice and clean, bed made every day. Staff not particularly friendly, food basic and boring went out most days. Pretty central for what we wanted, it was a place to sleep. Beach only about 5/10 minute walk which is beautiful.

Second time I’ve visited this hotel. It was clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Location is excellent with the beach a 10 min walk and the square a 5 min walk. There is also a spar 2 minutes away and lots of restaurants near by. On both occasions my room was spotless and there was a safe, free of charge which i thought was really good. The pool area was small but there were ample beds available due to the time of year. Sometimes I even had it to myself. Also very clean. Breakfast was simple but nice. A variety of cereals, breads, cheeses, meats and fruit. Then a small selection of hot food. (Eggs, beans and sausages). It’s definitely my go to hotel when I’m in Monte Gordo.

The best thing was breakfast. The room was changed to us saying it was superior, but the room we had reserved was refurbished and with shower, and the room we received no. And even though we went down and explained that we reserved it so for the difficulty not to use bathroom but they said they had no other. So a big negative point. And as regards the facilities, say they have a outdoor swimming pool, indoor ...(this is part of the spa that you have to pay and doesn't say it anywhere, but when you arrive there. We love staying here! The staff are all friendly and welcoming. They are very helpful and speak good English. The breakfast is plentiful and tasty with fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, a selection of breads and cold meat/cheese/eggs/yoghurt. The apartments are clean and comfortable. With a large balcony they are also very spacious with plenty of room to relax. The bathroom has a bidet (perfect for rinsing swimsuits etc!) and a powerful shower over the bath. WiFi this time was good in the room but it’s always strong in reception! This is not a luxury hotel! It’s a clean and comfortable apartment that makes a perfect base whilst exploring the beautiful beaches and surrounding areas here in the Algarve. Highly recommend!

The GOOD: all the staff were welcoming, professional & accommodating; particularly the bar & kitchen staff. The pool area was clean and welcoming. The BAD: one of the reasons we chose this property was the ‘ free parking’ - which turned out to be an issue. When we arrived and were unable to locate any available parking and advised the front desk where we parked (in a parking lot behind the building across the street) - we were told - “not a problem” - until we were ticketed. Then we became aware there were only a limited amount of CASABLANCA parking spots - which were all full - we advised the front desk staff a lot of the vehicles didn’t have the hotel parking sticker…they didn’t appear to care as did not act on the vehicles parked there without hotel stickers…. The bathroom had ants on the floor & counter - we then kept our supplies in the sink which until then didn’t have ants - and then they invaded the sink. A few times I woke up to ants crawling on me. The air conditioner would often make clunking sounds and then proceed to shout out chunks of ice in the room…. The bed - we’ve never experienced such a hard mattress… The UGLY Probably because if the moisture from the AC unit on the balcony, mold was in the corners of the balcony… We initially thought about vacating- even if it meant losing our $ we paid upfront for the 3 nights - however there was extremely limited availability in the vicinity and there appeared to be parking issues with those properties and we’d take a chance on those being an improvement - so we endured and chalked it up to ‘ adventures in travel’

We spent 6 nights at this hotel which is very close to the beach. Food was varied and excellent quality with a different theme every day. Staff friendly and helpful, spotless rooms which were cleaned every day. Rooftop pool is small and not really big enough for a swim, but sits in a covered area so you can use it whatever the weather. Easy walking distance to the next town (Vila Real de San Antonio) where you can take a ferry to Ayamonte in Spain for €2.50pp
