This hotel was advertised as a fine and luxurious resort by American Express. It came with $100 hôtel credit and free breakfast. I have to say the the people working at the hotel were great and very kind. The room was very nice as well. When I checked in , I was told that I could only use the credit toward the parking and the room mini bar because everything in the hotel was closed . This was a family trip , there isn’t much I can use in the mini bar. The restaurant was closed The bar was closed The gym was closed The boutique was closed Also, since the restaurant was closed, the free inclusive breakfast consisted of a boxed continental breakfast where you could not select anything . This was not very popular with my kids. We came back to our room after the fireworks and noticed the room hadn’t cooled . I called the front desk and they told me that the AC hadn’t been working properly in a few days . They kindly offered a fan which I accepted considering it was 75 in the room. They returned 15 minutes later with no fan because there were none available . We barely slept that night. All of these items should have been disclosed of before booking or before arrival. I would have booked another hotel had I known. The AC situation should have been disclosed of upon check in considering it had been going on for a few days. For us, this experience was very disappointing.

We brought our daughter to start her uni life to Montreal. We stayed in a not-yet renovated room for four nights and then extended two more nights in a renovation room. On top of the previous comments ”The location of the hotel is just by the side of the train station. It is located a walkable distance to the down towns and lots of restaurants nearby. It takes around a 30 minute walk to Old Montreal, or a Uber drive of around 20 CADs. The swimming pool and the Jacuzzi is the main attraction. The best time to use it is the morning time which is less crowded than the evening and night. The breakfast is provided complimentary at the executive lounge. The service there is extremely good. The male waiter is committed and professional, who makes the day of every customer.” I would like to add that the view of the room is nice. The new room faces the internal garden with mandarin ducks, trees and small rivers, which is refreshing. Moreover, the staff is very helpful. We needed to print some documents urgently but the printer did not work. The staff at the front desk immediately asked us to forward the documents to them and printed them for us within minutes. The sensitivity and responsivity are highly appreciated. The only issue is the rooms adjacent were still renovating, thus the smell of paints were spread to our room too. Anyway, if you are bringing your kids to uni, this is a very good choice for the pre-uni life for the family.

Good things first - the hotel is nicely renovated, the rooms are functional and generous, the gym is very good and the location is very convenient. What was not so great is the feeling that you’re being ripped off at every turn and the staff couldn’t care less about you or your stay. Some relatively minor but irritating experiences totally coloured my impression of the Marriott group to the extent that I would actively avoid staying at one in the future. 1. We arrived at 9.50pm for check in (plane delayed) and were told the kitchen would be open until 10:30. The wait staff said the kitchen was closed when we asked for some food, when pushed on when they took last orders they admitted that they had taken an order a minute previously but couldn’t take our order. There was no room service, they wouldn’t even give us olives or crackers. Had to go to bed hungry. 2. My bags had been lost in the airport and I asked reception if they had toothbrush sets I could use. They said they would send to my room. Never did. 3. I asked reception what time the clothing stores opened in Montreal (to buy clothes as I didn’t have any bags) I was told 9am but everything opened at 10 as I found out the next morning. If they didn’t know, they could have said rather than making it up and wasting my time. 4. The restaurant was ferociously expensive with $30 for breakfast and then they asked if I wanted a cappucino and did not highlight that it was $6 extra and not included In the price. 5. A lot of hanging around trying to get staff attention while they chatted and did other jobs while ignoring me. 6. Charging to hold luggage and insisting that we pay in cash. 7. Generally being really unhelpful about everything and wheedling money out of us at every turn. 8. No reasonably priced food options. Food quality not matching prices. 9. Not replenishing the drinking water in the rooms so had to pay for vending machine water. Urgh. It just left me feeling used and broke!

Renaissance Montreal Downtown Hotel

On arrival just after 3pm, our room was ready and as Bonvoy Platinum members we had the option of points or morning breakfast during the stay. We chose Breaky! Breakfast is a menu made to order fare in the East Asian Asiatique restaurant just off the hotel lobby and was a gastric delight and one of the highlights of our weekend stay. The hallways to the room are concernedly dark and a flashlight is a necessary appliance in order to correctly find room numbers – A design flaw or part of the eclectic experience? Our appointed one-bedroom suite was designed and furnished in a pleasant funky design, similar to the rest of the property. It did take a bit of time and the skill set of an engineer to figure out what wall light switches operated what and how to operate the lighting appliances themselves. At night with all the lights on the room was quite dim in keeping with the needed seeing eye dog darkened hallway ambience. Included in the room was a handy mini fridge along with a capsule coffee maker a much appreciated and necessary evil for early morning coffee fixes! Unfortunately, the first night the HVAC heating and A/C unit along with a neighboring unit banged and clunked loudly at the beginning and end of each of the constantly repeating winter heating cycles which made for a very sleepless night. The second front staff person we spoke to eventually moved us to a another much quieter suite the next morning and the manager Florian followed up a few hours later to ensure our comfort and satisfaction was now acceptable! We are always appreciative when a property is proactive in first recognizing an avoidable detrimental occurrence and then acts genuinely to make it right for the guest – We give the property, staffs and management high marks for their efforts! The location of the property is another highlight of any stay here – Shopping and restaurants are just a few blocks or less away. China town is another one kilometer short walk and The old Port is a bit longer walk but very doable in good weather. We look forward to a future stay and wish to thank the management and staffs for their contribution to the success of our special weekend away in Montreal – Cheers!

First off, if you`re reading this and you`re a Bonvoy Platinum (or above member) then I`d book this over any other Montreal property. The Club Lounge is that good (more on that later). My family and I stayed her at the tail end of a Quebec vacation. The location is very central, just a couple of blocks away from Rue St. Catherine and the Metro and maybe a 20 minute walk to Old Town and Mount Royal. As others have mentioned, the lobby is undergoing a renovation but the Club Lounge is open and newly redone and absolutely amazing. We didn`t use the pool or gym but we did check them out and they look really nice, there`s also a large outdoor space just off the pool with tables so even if you don`t have club lounge access there`s some nice places to hang, especially in nice weather. Parking was surprisingly affordable for a large city at aroung $25.00 a day. Our junior suite was actually larger than I thought it would be a king size bed in the bedroom and a separate living room with a queen size sofa, my teenager used the sofa bed and didn`t have any complaints. The room also had a cool table/ that could electronically lower or raise and had a bunch of USB ports built in. I imagine this would be very handy for anyone wanting to get some work done in the room. The true jewel of this property is the club lounge, located on the top floor it has absolutely stunning views of the city and is the largest I've seen yet so even though breakfast was extremely busy, we still found seating. Breakfast consisted of eggs, french toast some breakfast meats plus a chacuterie and cheese platter, fruits, croissants etc. There was plenty to choose from and the quality was quite good. They do a really nice affternoon spread staring at 5pm that could easily take care of dinner with hot foods, chacuterie and even nice little dishes full of pickeled vegetables. My only complaint would be tht the bar service was very pricey. Also a couple of the attendants weren't very friendly and it was very challenging to get information about Gluten-Free foods for my daughter. The chef even came out at one point to talk to a worker I'd asked and even though I was right there, he didn't look at me or offer to help me find some foods for her. Of course this is only an issue if you're concerned about allergies and the food was plentiful and very good. Overall this is a beautiful property and I'll definitely return.

Overall a pretty disappointing stay. The rooms are small. They have an odd set up with blinds that open up to the bathroom but are controlled by the person in the bedroom. There is no view to look at and they do not act as ventilation so I can think of no reason for them. The pool is very small and was not heated to a point where we were comfortable using it. We tried to order room service for breakfast and were told they didn't do room service. Front desk people were friendly but a little slow. Considering what I paid for the room and what I got in exchange it was poor value. Many other hotels that would have suited my needs better. One saving grace is it's location which is close to the Metro and many attractions.

Old Montreal
This hotel in Old Montreal has a wonderful location, so close to great restaurants like the new Moishe’s Steak House, and Holder. It is small, clean and comfortable with lots of large windows. The reception and breakfast area is large and light. The Loft rooms are very comfortable and spacious with Molton Brown amenities and a Nespresso machine. The large windows open and have pretty flower boxes. The layout of an ‘open concept’ bathroom and closets might not appeal to all, but we liked the quirkiness. The decor could stand some updating. For example, the two occasional chairs in our room were quite worn and the hallway carpet stained. Our housekeeper was excellent. Reception staff were generally accommodating. The food at breakfast was excellent but the service could stand improvement. One morning it took 30 minutes to get a cappuccino. In fairness, another morning’s room service breakfast arrived promptly. But another morning we seemed to be forgotten. This may be a post-Covid staffing problem however. At check out, a detailed statement of daily charges and credit certificates was lacking. When we arrived, we asked for additional pillows but none were available initially. We got one the second night after the other woman who had it checked out! We would probably stay here again if these small but irritating issues were fixed.

This hotel was everything we expected. The location is next to the Old City, subway around the corner and centrally placed to explore Montreal. The hotel is modern, exceptionally clean with amazing amenities in the rooms. The beds are the best that we have slept on anywhere in the world on our travels. Breakfast is very good and more than adequate to start your day. Our six day stay was perfect from check in to check out. This is the place to stay if you are thinking of visiting Montreal
