We arrived to see the hotel tastefully decorated for the Christmas Season with warm and inviting twinkling wreaths and Trees. A beautiful reception area with high ceilings with warm modern feel. We were greeted at reception with a smile and the fact we were early was not an issue. We sat and waited less than 10 minutes while accommodation confirmed they had our room ready, the early check in was very welcoming after our journey. We were signposted by the receptionist and the accommodation staff member. We were given all the usual but welcome information and dining options and breakfast. Our room was modern bright and comfortable, quality and unique soft furnishings giving the feel of a modern and not chain like feel. A truly well thought out decor. Bathroom bright and modern with large walk in shower and Quality toiletries. Hand lotion by the Irish handmade soap company was amazing to use. The bed and bedding of the highest quality and comfy. Food in the busy bar was epic, Brie and wings to start, chef’s special and Retro Carbonara for mains with Brownies and Pecan to finish. All the staff & the manager who personally spoke to us and checked on us are very warm and professional. Lovely local feel with that touch of modern class. We will return soon without a doubt. We commented that it’s been some time since we felt such hospitality and encountered food if such quality. Like the old days when hotel food was quality produce and nit widely available. The management and chef are obviously selective with their suppliers and the proof was in our pudding.

I don’t normally write reviews but I really loved this place, We stayed Easter weekend 2025 and it was the best stay we got the most beautiful room with a little seating area to watch tv and relax, mini Easter eggs in the girls room which they absolutely loved, the beds are so comfortable best nights sleep I had in ages, the staff unbelievable nothing was too much and the girl at reception was so welcoming and chatting to our little one like she was so important (in our eyes she is 😂) we had lunch and dinner (the weather was bad so did not venture far on the Saturday) both sittings for meals was absolutely delicious, great buzz in the bar in the afternoon really nice feel to the place, on the Sunday we went to a cafe the hotel are involved in about 5 minutes out the road Tullynally castle and had one of the best coffees along with red velvet cake, the walks around the castle at the coffee shop are stunning, we will definitely be back down during the summer as there is a lake nearby that sounds amazing, Castle Varagh is such a beautiful relaxing hotel if you are just looking a break away to unwind and relax absolutely perfect.

Imagine waking up at 6 a.m ready to have your shower. But the room is freezing. And the water is freezing! You phone down to Reception to find out what is going on. And there is no one there! You come back to your room in the evening after a day out. It's freezing! You call down to Reception. There IS someone there! And she puts the heat on for half an hour. No, this hotel by not heating its rooms is taking advantage of its customers. NEVER again.

This was our second time staying in the hotel and we were delighted with the room and breakfast and we would stay again. It's a modern and comfortable hotel. Unfortunately, when we were there the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night as the pub next door was actually on fire. This was no fault of the hotel. Myself and about 7 other guests made our way to the side emergency exit. Unfortunately, in the dark and being disorientated, we could not find how to get around to the fire point at the front of the building. We couldn't get out left and in the dark, we thought it was a shed only to the right. After 45 minutes waiting at the side emergency exit, I rang the local garda station to ask what to do as we couldn't figure the way out and there was no staff around. After I made the call and told guests that the pub next door was on fire, another guest spoke up to say we could get out via carpark to the right, I don't know why he didn't speak up in first place!! So 7 of us piled into his car , drove out in strangers car and around front of building, it was all a bit mad!! Once the fire officers extinguished fire and checked hotel, we were allowed back in. This emergency situation was nothing to do with hotel but I wanted to let them know our experience of evacuation. I did wait at reception when checking out to tell staff in person but no body came so I left key at desk and left.

We had our sons christening party here and a lot of family stayed, cannot recommend enough for occasions/parties, from start to finish a great experience nothing was a problem, the food on the day was so delicious and fresh, the staff so pleasant and helpful. Everything/everywhere was spotless clean. The ballroom was the perfect size and came with its own courtyard and has the most beautiful lit up hallway perfect for photos! The decor is beautiful throughout the hotel modern and fresh. The rooms were spotless clean bathrooms etc couldn’t fault anything.

Just wow! From the minute we arrived until the moment we left Patrick and all the staff made us feel so welcome and spoiled. Everybody was friendly and yet still extremely professional. The interior design of the hotel was tasteful and elegant and our suite was pure luxury. We’ve stayed in many hotels and I’ve yet to find one as clean. We ate in Tom’s Bar and Bistro and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back. Heartfelt thanks to Patrick and all the team for taking such good care of us and making our stay so enjoyable.

Lovely hotel . Highly recommend it. Got a very good deal. The food was excellent and the staff so efficient and helpful especially the lovely Mark. Spoke with Paul the chef and complimented him on his cooking and his very good brown bread..He went to kitchen and brought me out a brown soda bread. Such a lovely gesture. Will definitely be back..
