Great
Bbb travelsThe hotel feels new, and clean. We enjoyed the amenities of the place, and the convenience — all that one expects from a brand-name hotel. The only downside is that the room we were allocated faces the temple cemetery, which should’ve been told to us earlier upon check in. Other than that, it’s a pretty decent hotel for a quick short stay in Nagano.
KKazushiThe building is a thatched roof and was built in 1815. I think it's a hobby of thick beams, rust floors, and my husband's hobby, but I really liked the tatami room that was playing jazz and the first time in a long time. The meal was also a refreshing and delicious item 々, with tempura, Yuba, vinegared chrysanthemums, and soba, which healed my body after the marathon. The soba was Zui 々, with a good fragrance, touch of teeth, and a good throat. It was raining badly, but I want to go out again.
GGuest UserGreat location, within 5-10 minutes walk from Nagano Train Station. Good amenities and service provided by the hotel. Friendly and professional hotel staff. Laundry room has 3 washing machines and 3 dryers that work well. Reception staff can provide change of 100yen coins for the laundry machines.
KKim Lian DorcasWe were drawn to this hotel because my friends and I absolutely love Chateraise cakes! Conveniently located about an 8-minute walk from Nagano Station, the hotel was easy to find. Check-in was smooth, and the rooms were comfortable and welcoming. The best part was the daily treat of Chateraise cakes offered as welcome treats and during tea time—a delightful indulgence. The hotel served as an excellent base for exploring Nagano, with popular sights like Zenko-ji Temple within walking distance. Overall, it was a wonderfully convenient stay.
GGuest UserHotel is OK, but for us, no AC system makes the room stuffy. Sleeping with open windows is not an option for us. But the hotel is clean, albeit a bit old. Location is OK, not many things around, a small Lawson nearby, Dennys restaurant on the block, we picked the hotel because our tour departs from that hotel.
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is very close to Zenkoji Temple on foot. It is a very special experience to attend the morning class at 6:30 in the morning.
Transportation: Across the road from Nagano Station, the buses to the city are all at the station entrance (both 1 and 7 are OK for Zenkoji. I took 1 bus which is closer. I bought the ticket before getting off). After getting off the bus, you can walk to the hotel in a few minutes.
Hotel service: There was a Japanese waiter on the night we went there, but it was difficult to find someone if something happened.
Hotel food: We booked a one-night stay and two meals. Although they were all vegetarian, they tasted surprisingly good. In addition, I ordered grape juice for my daughter, which tasted special in beige.
Hotel facilities: You can't ask for too much from the facilities of the shukubo. Try not to bring luggage. We stayed in a Japanese-style room on the third floor. If you bring luggage, it will be very difficult to carry it up the stairs by yourself. Plug: There is no USB, please bring enough two plugs; Toilet: Only on the first floor, no room, you need to run down every time if you live upstairs; Washing: Only in the bathroom on the first floor and near the men's bath, it is relatively simple, and there are no face wash and skin care products. Although the room has air conditioning and a gas stove, the overall temperature is not high and it is a bit cold, but surprisingly, the tatami is very warm. I looked at it and it turned out to be Nishikawa's down quilt. The hotel basically has a curfew at 9 pm.
Temple sightseeing: Buy a 1200 pass for Zenkoji Temple at the hotel. Volunteers will lead you to the temple for morning classes at 6:30 in the morning. As an experience, it is very good, but remind you to dress warmly. The time for listening to the chanting is a bit long. My feet are sore from the cold. The volunteers finish at about 8:30. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, you can go to Zenkoji Temple to buy amulets and worship on your own. There are many souvenirs and food, as well as Starbucks on the street directly opposite the main temple. If you are not very tired, you can walk back to Nagano.
We encountered heavy snow when we returned to the temple after breakfast. It felt very good. I wish you all a happy trip.
KKathleen Joyce BillonesI chose to stay for two nights at Hotel NewNagano Next because of its very convenient location. Nagano station is just a few hundred meters away and there are a lot of food options (both restaurants and konbinis) in the area. On our checkout day, we left our luggage temporarily inside the free lockers in the hotel lobby before visiting Matsumoto Castle. We just came back to claim our luggage in the afternoon before leaving for Tokyo.
AAnton VoroshilinThis is an extremely cosy place, but I would not dare describe it as luxurious. It is dated and simple, with the most basic amenities.
However, I liked it a lot. The best part about this ryokan is its owner, an elderly man. He truly puts his heart and soul into his establishment. He even suggested to give us a ride to the station, however the weather was nice and we decided to walk instead.
I'd like to highlight the breakfast: it was gorgeous, given the price. I'd even say it tasted better than a ¥3000 dinner I had at some local restaurant.
The whole experience felt like visiting your grandparents, who live in a village, during the summer.
GGuest UserWe arrived from Tokyo on a late shinkansen, and needed to stop overnight before catching the bus to Hakuba in the morning. Hotel Abest had the best rates and their checkin counter was open until late.
We had a room on the ninth floor. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean, and there was even an automatic massage chair.
We added breakfast, and the photos I have added show the nutritious hot breakfast and the view from the small restaurant on the tenth floor.
Would absolutely recommend staying here!
AAnonymous UserThe room was very nice - sufficiently large and with all necessary amenities (even a small fridge). The room was clean and in good condition. The staff was very kind and stored my luggage for free, as I arrived early in the morning. The hotel is conveniently located, yet in a rather quiet place. It's a walking distance from both Nagano station and Zenkoji temple (approximately 20-25 minutes), however, do note that the nearest bus stop is about 900 meters away, so if you got a lot of luggage and do not intend to get a taxi, that may be a bit far. They also have coin operated washing machines and dryers, in case you need them. Overall, a great option for most travelers, especially in terms of value for money.
