No shower in the room. Taking shower at the Onsen only. This hotel is famous for watching Owls but it seems not as it used to be. The dinner and breakfast are great. The staff service is worth mention. The luggages are delivered to my room in no time. I got a small gift for my birthday as it is exactly the date I checked in. River view from my room is nice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Yuyado Daiichi. The staff were all lovely, the food was amazing and being westerners we were so glad we tried the Onsen experience - and loved it. Would thoroughly recommend. Being a nature photographer we really enjoyed the show each day.

Rooms without shower!!! Had to pay another extra fee to get a room with a shower! Food excellent, staff tries its best service and food very good - but absolutely overpriced :(

This was the most magical onsen I’ve ever been to. Pretty remote and difficult to get to if relying on public transport/taxis, however once you get there it’s so warm, inviting, and luxurious. The onsen baths are a mix of separate genders (mostly inside) baths, but also a spectacular outside onsen for mixed genders; the staff at reception will give you a covering garment for this. The dinner and breakfasts were truly delicious and filling but we enjoyed dining in the provided yukatas. The real draw of this place however is the birdwatching opportunities. The main lobby boasts a huge window to a bird garden which is teeming with various species. There is an owl that often visits and perches right outside the window. The staff can also call your room during the night if it appears and you’re desperate to see it!

After working through New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, I finally got to relax at Daiichi-san after 10 years. The open-air bath by the river's gentle murmur was incredibly soothing, both for body and soul. The dinner was perfectly seasoned; I could eat it without getting bored, and the breakfast accompaniments and pickles were also delicious. The audio room, the coffee and soft-serve ice cream in the lounge, and the 24-hour coffee and tea service were all fantastic – there was so much to enjoy, I couldn't even try everything! It seems like there are more international staff now, but everyone spoke Japanese very well and handled irregular situations smoothly, making for a very comfortable stay. I even got to see a Blakiston's fish owl, and all the staff were wonderfully cheerful and charming.

The place is a bit remote, making it beautiful an quiet. Very good personal service. Highlights are quality food and amenities. The onsen is exceptional, mostly outdoors, just beside a little stream.

The food, services and the onsen facilities are awesome. It is also a nice place for bird watching.

Excellent! Every staff there are taking every step to address your needs and make your stay wonderful. Many of their staff speak good Wnglish. They set up an area to attract the owl and other birds to come where you can enjoy a magnificent view to watch them. They provide a globe and pants for male and female to share the same outdoor onsen.Food is wonderful and with a wide variety. Free milk, yogurt (all day), midnight rice roll. They provide free Morning take away coffee and sweet red bean dumpling. When an owl came, they will phone your room to come down to the viewing station. Speechless!

Amazing resort style onsen. You will feel like having entered a luxurious home from the time you enter to the time you leave.

One of the best ryokan we have been to. Excellent service, ambience, great kaiseki dinner, best yukata we have ever been offered. Only downside for some is that it is in a very isolated area.

The hot spring hotel is nestled deep in the mountains, surrounded by nothing but mystery. Dinner was quite good, the open-air hot spring was very comfortable, and the dairy products were fragrant and pure. There were owls to observe. The only downsides were the small room and the dry environment, which caused me to have a nosebleed.

Our room overlooking the river had large windows, and we could watch birds like Eurasian Jays, Dippers, and tits flying by for hours. The room had a retro feel and a unique, interesting design. The open-air bath was relatively new. It's a bit pricey, but I would like to stay there again. We stayed for four nights and the food was delicious every day. The staff, both experienced and younger, were all smiling, kind, and helpful. We even got to see a Blakiston's fish owl, which was something we had long hoped to do.

The service was excellent, and the facilities were great. My favorite part was the open-air hot spring, right next to a beautiful stream; soaking in the hot spring while listening to the gentle flow of the water was truly delightful. There was also a mixed-gender bath (with clothes provided), so families could enjoy it together. The food was relatively ordinary, but the unlimited milk ice cream was fantastic. However, the smoking room was right next to the observation deck, filling the observation deck with secondhand smoke; I hope this can be improved.
