This was my third stay at the Goldi Sands, honestly, the last time was nearly 20 years ago but I had such a great time back then I had high expectations. In the intervening 20 years, the hotel has had a revamp, double the size, double the number of swimming pools, added an elevator and they've removed the beach-fronted bungalows. All of which I think was a smart move and well worth doing. What has changed is the service and the catering. The staff are of course all very polite just that they didn't go the extra mile like they used to. We arrived late as our flight had been delayed, all I wanted was a couple of bottles of beer, they did arrive but I almost had to beg. I booked a taxi to the airport with the front desk, but they forgot, the waitresses at dinner were all about the hard upsell rather than serving. The breakfast as far as my memory serves me used to be awesome, today's breakfast is the same every day and lacks imagination, is poorly presented, and includes the worst coffee ever. The hotel has a confusing number of tariffs from all-inclusive to room only which means if you want to buy a drink it takes forever as they have to check your "status" and then if you pay cash they have to go to the cashier as they carry no float. The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable but basic. All in all it is still a good hotel to choose but sadly it is no longer in the memorable category.

This is a large hotel with good sized rooms with all facilities .Sando was one of the staff who made our stay memorable. Fantastic swimming pools to cater for all ages . It is a shame to see it so empty due of course to the middle east war.

The hotel was part of a tour and for the most part we enjoyed the stay. Room and food were good and enjoyed the pool. As it was a busy time and there were a few functions happening with Christmas celebrations. A feature of Sri Lankan Christmas appears to be lots of fireworks and explosions going off 24 seven. Didn’t stop at night so compromised sleep The restaurant put on a Christmas Eve dinner that was incredible. Variety and selection was amazing. We enjoyed the pool table and the spa, staff were great.

Nice 4* hotel. Rooms clean and spacious, lovely beds, good bathrooms. Nice location on the beach, but quite busy road on the backside (earplugs recommended if you are a light sleeper) Great for a few nights after long flight as hotel is quite close to airport. Not much noise from planes though. If staying for a longer period concider upgrade to deluxe rooms which seem to have lovely balconies and less problems with noise from the road. Nice pool area, but very few sunbeds available (concidering number of rooms at the hotel), and unfortunately quite a few people reserving beds without using them for longer periods during the day. Food was fine. Service good. Would not hesitate to stay again before/after flight.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay was disappointing from start to finish. booked two week all inclusive with Tui and moved hotel it was so bad - a first for us - we are in our 50s and travel regularly totally recognising varying standards across the word * Bar service was painfully slow, and every single drink required a signature, which felt excessive and inconvenient. No wine included in all inclusive package even at dinner * The property is more of a transient airport hotel than the “boutique” experience advertised. Towels and bedding were visibly greying, and the overall condition of the hotel was tired and lacked any atmosphere * Shockingly, there were mattresses left in the hallways, which gave the place a neglected feel.the stare of other areas including lift carpet was poor * The food quality was mediocre at best. Snacks were only available during very limited times, while the à la carte menu was open all day—but only for guests who hadn’t prepaid. the food area resembled a low quality school canteen * The so-called all-inclusive package excluded basics like orange juice and diet coke, which was frustrating. * When we raised issues with staff, they were responsive for a couple of hours, but everything quickly reverted back to the same poor standards. * Mojitos were routinely unavailable, glasses around the pool sat uncleared for the entire day, and the pool bar was often unmanned. Overall, this hotel failed to deliver even the basics of comfort and service. Definitely not worth the money or the “boutique” label. Avoid !

Great stay, nice big room with spacious balcony with a sea view. Bedding clean and soft. Staff very friendly and attentive, especially Shanika in dining restaurant. Food was excellent, beach nice and clean. I score the hotel and staff 5 stars, no doubt. Shops , restaurants, coffee shops and everything you need is just outside the hotel, love my evening walk on main street having coffee , I don’t like being restricted to hotel only, close to everything The only bad point is the hotel taxi driver (he gave a business card with Goldi sands hotel name on it as a hotel taxi driver) who is sitting outside hotel and pestering every day, to the point that is making me uncomfortable, and one day I wanted a taxi to make a 2.5 km ride to fish market and asked him How much, and he said 4000 rupees, I double checked and he confirmed, then I booked PickMe car for the ride for 400 rupees. That was a bit disappointing to be honest, I always pay extra and tip a lot, but this was far too far, I understand that everyone wants to make some money on tourists but 10 x more is a scam. Everyone os free to charge anything for their services, but I would like tourists to know and make a choice of using him or use Uber or PickMe (for instance, Uber charged me 4000 rupees for ride to Colombo railway station which was 39 km. Which I know is very low price and was more than happy to add more )
