The first thing I will mention is that the hotel is 5 star and is expectedly, very expensive, being in the heart of Times Square. I took this into account when writing my review. If I am paying that much, my expectations would be higher than normal. I stayed for 12 nights over the Christmas and NY period so I obtained a very comprehensive view of the hotel and everything about it. Overall it was a very comfortable stay and the staff were always there to attend to any requests and issues. The moment I got out of my transfer car, there was a lovely young gentleman waiting to get all my bags and transport me upstairs to the reception. The check-in was reasonably flawless but there was a bit of confusion around the payment because of resort fees the hotel charges daily. I prepaid my booking and there was confusion over whether it included or excluded the resort fee. The reception area is immaculately presented and the bar and restaurant are both located here. I intended to use the gym during my stay, but didn't have time to even take a peek. Nor did I visit the bar or restaurant. There's way too many options outside to do that. The very polite and courteous young gentleman then took me up to my room. He showed me everything and away he went. I got a bit of a room upgrade which I highly appreciated and had a beautiful view of Times Square. I was on the 2nd highest floor, floor 39. The room is not big. It was adequate for one person but nothing more. I don't think I would be able to stay here if I was with another person. It would be too uncomfortable and I had to find space for my 2 suitcases and carry-on. The bathroom is open plan, with a door for the shower and toilet. A big problem I had in my room was that if it was windy you will hear a loud whistle coming through the bottom of the front door. It really annoyed me. I had to take the cover off the bed and make a snake shape to block the gap underneath the door to stop the noise. Even a bath towel didn't work. They need to fix this. The hotel is very new and the rooms are very beautifully equipped, presented and maintained. I was pleased to see that most of the things I requested before I arrived (some extra bath mats, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, mini fridge, bathroom scale) were mostly there upon arrival. I quantified the number of towels I needed as I was not getting any housekeeping during my 12 night stay but I did not get the quantity requested. I expected a bit more attention to detail for a 5 star hotel. Before I arrived I was asked if I was celebrating a special occasion and Guest Services pushed up my expectations as I was celebrating a special occassion and they said something nice, I assume maybe a cake or some alcohol would be waiting for me in the room. When I arrived there was nothing. And there was never going to be anything throughout my stay. I didn't mind and only remembered towards the end of the stay. Refinery is first of all a good location. It ’s convenient to go to Broadway to watch a show or to go to midtown. The nearby Bryant Park has my favorite breakfast shop. West 40th Street has good Spanish food. Michelin ’s chef ’s table is the highest in the world at West 39. Street ... you can understand so much. In fact, the room facilities are just like that. In contrast, I prefer their hotel public facilities and bathrooms. Their rooftop is a relatively popular restaurant with nice night views.

Amazing hotel in the best area , close to everything . Hotel itself clean , cute cozy. Room is very decent, we see the Empire State from our room , breakfast has hot and cold stuff and to go food if you want for a snack , I loved their coffee. People from reception, breakfast team, housekeeping are decent , helpful and working hard. They hv a cozy cute table downstairs for a drink or the 26th floor which is the top notch to see NY and direct to the Empire State. My only recommendation pls do a deep clean for the carpet in z rooms as we noted stains . I def recommended and will go there again and again

Great location. But the service standards absolutely disappointed. In room telephone was not working and despite repeated complaints it was not repaired through my stay of 4 nights. So basically we had to go down all the way to reception every time we wanted something at the room. From toiletries to food to water. Even the front desk as well as the duty manager simply expressed inability to do anything about it Initially even some of the lights in the room were not working. Clearly one of the worst stays of my life at a big brand hotel All in all a big disappointment

We were given a handicapped accessible room. I was sort of okay with it. However, we didn't realize that across the way there would be construction all night long. I didn't sleep well at all. The next morning, I asked the staff if we could please move. I thought for sure they would deny my request. The front desk staff was absolutely AMAZING! Marie, Natasha, Cristal and Robert were the best ever! They kept our luggage safe until another room opened up. It was nice and quiet and I got a great night's sleep! Everytime we went by the front desk staff, they were super friendly. They were very helpful with all of our tourist questions, too. They went out of their way to appreciate us being there! If I ever go back to NYC, I will always stay here! The hotel was SPOTLESS as well as our room. Very comfy bed and roomy shower. The location was fantastic...just a short walk to Times Square. Just up the street was Carmines...Incredible Italian food!!!!

Fantastic experience at the Hotel Sherman for my daughter's first trip to NYC. This boutique hotel reminds me of a quaint European boutique hotel or B&B. Our room was very cute, clean and quiet. It's right on Restaurant Row so there are a variety of delicious options just steps away. We recommend choosing take out and enjoying your dinner on the cozy roof top terrace which has a beautiful view above the roar of street level. The staff was friendly, gracious and helpful. We appreciated their willingness to store our luggage before and after check in/check out. The continental breakfast had a good array of options. The croissants in particular melted in your mouth. My daughter is gluten free but had plenty of options with hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit. We did pick up some gluten free bread nearby. The rooms also have a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave which are nice amenities to have. Just steps away from Times Square, the Theater District, the Port Authority and so many midtown sites, I would highly recommend this gem. The only critique I would have is the carpet in the elevator and hallways are a bit worn, but the charm of the rooms and gracious hospitality more than makes up.

We stayed here again after liking it during our stay in 2019. Speedy check in with helpful staff. A good first impressive. This time we were on the 15th floor and unfortunately you can hear the noise from the street as we were facing out onto the very busy 8th avenue. Better soundproofing is definitely needed. Last time we were on the 30th floor and couldn’t hear a thing. The room was a good size for central New York, really comfy bed and pillows. All very clean. Good sized bathroom with lots of places to keep things. Breakfast can get very busy but the staff didn’t stop and you didn’t wait long, if at all, to be seated. Great choice with everything you could ask for for breakfast. We asked for a late check out which cost $80 to keep the room until 3pm, we were happy with this, but you could have stored your cases if this wasn’t available. The location is perfect, can walk to most of the main attractions. Lots of subway stations within a 5minute walk. Lots of restaurants and cafes around. Overall a good stay but if we visited again we might think of staying elsewhere because if your unlucky and your room is on a lower floor it’s just too noisy.

I booked this hotel because it was one of the only hotels that had two double beds & didn’t cost a fortune. We travelled from jfk airport on the subway. We got off at 50th street station and it was only a 10 minute walk to the hotel. CHECK IN -The check in was VERY slow. We waited over an hour in a huge queue with only 2 & sometimes 3 staff checking people in. We were charged $40 per night resort fee! Which is basically free money for the hotel. I’ve no idea why they just don’t add this on to the price of the room, so people are clear on the full price. If you are staying for more than one night this can be very costly. Nearly all New York hotels do this. ROOM - our room was small with just two queen sized beds, a tv and very small cheap desk. Our room over looked the back of some Times Square signs, not the best view. But we were only intending on sleeping in our room so it was ok. I thought being next to the lift it would be loud, but we never heard a thing. There was a steamer to iron clothes and also a hair dryer in the room. No tea/coffee though. LOCATION- the location was perfect for us, close to the subway station. If you walk out of the hotel and turn left down the street you will come to Times Square at the end. There are Broadway theatres and restaurants all along the hotels street. It is literally in the middle of everything, the location is ideal. OVERALL- we loved the location of this place, the price was reasonable for New York prices and the room was small but ok. Definitely nothing luxurious, but adequate. The check in is definitely something that needs sorting out, it’s far too long a process. You can leave bags here for $2 each, which was great. The Edison Hotel is the perfect place to stay when visiting Manhattan! The location, which is right in the theatre district and a block and a half away from Times Square, is exceptional. One can take a short walk over to Ninth Avenue where there are dozens and dozens of great restaurants. It is near everything!!! The staff were great! They seemed to go out of their way to be polite and professional, which is unusual in this area. Our room was very nice with a King Bed and a great view of the city. While we did not try the Hotel's restaurants and bars they seemed to be fulled of happy customers. The room price, when compared to value provided, is a bargain. You can easily pay a lot more in this area and receive a lot less.. I have stayed in this general area at a number of Hotels in the past that failed to motivate me to write a review. Try this Hotel the next time you are in town. You will come back!!

There are not many people who comment on it. The hotel is on 49th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. The roads in Manhattan are easy to recognize, just right and street. Start on Fifth Avenue and then sixth, seventh, Broadway and eighth. In the middle is the street. The Port Authority's main station (that is, the coach station) is on 42nd Street, Times Square is on 47th Street, and the subway can be a 50th Street station, very close. A lot of food nearby (Ichiran Ramen, Shake Burger, Michelin Steak House). The hotel is not a well-known brand in the chain, it is relatively small and not luxurious, but the price is not cheaper than the surrounding Marriott or the like. Last year, I stayed at Marriott very large. The exterior looks larger and more luxurious than this. After all, his infrastructure is very early. But this good place is closer to Times Square than the quiet Marriott there, rooms have microwaves, coffee machines, free fruit and apples, bananas, potato chips, ice water for 24 hours downstairs. Finally a hotel that gets it. I become irritated when looking online at hotels and discover how many have succumbed to the gimmick of “resort fees” or “destination fees” to squeeze a few more dollars out of the traveler. I am not going to use the gym. A big breakfast does not interest me. I have my cell phone for long distance calls. I resent being forced to pay for “privileges” that I will not be using. Civilian makes it all so simple. Do you want to use the gym? Then pay for it. Do you want to have breakfast in the hotel? Then pay for it. It is all so simple! Customize your stay to your own preferences. Having gotten all that off my chest… As a solo traveler, I chose the ”Cozy Queen” which was adequate for me… big bed (very comfortable), big TV (with several OnDemand options), huge window facing the street (making the room bright and giving a sense that it is larger than perhaps it really is), and a larger bathroom than I have typically found in NYC. There is a bar on the second floor with a terrace overlooking the street. Inside is spacious and nicely decorated with miniature stage sets from Broadway shows. Civilian is less than a year old… everything is shiny and new. All the members of the staff whom I encountered were welcoming and pleasant and ready with a smile or greeting. Civilian is top notch!!

Great location for a person seeking the heart of Times Square. There are various levels of rooms so don’t be offended if you don’t book a city view and then get a window with a view of a building. The entrance was decent, yet for a W hotel, I never saw a doorman on site. We never had staff assist us with our bags either. The initial impression after the primary door is decent. They turned it into an sort of underwater experience. With this being said the four nights we stayed there I also never once saw a security guard as you first enter leaving a bit of safety concerns up for grabs. From there you have to catch an elevator up to the main lobby which is nicely decorated. Upon checking in don’t expect to be greeted with a smile (even if you have rank as a bonvoy member). Just get your key and go. As for the room the overall appearance is dependent upon the level of room you choose, so to be impartial I won’t give my opinion on the rooms. I will though, continue to comment on the lackluster service as that aspect should be stellar across the board. Upon asking for recommendations for the city we were handed a crumbled, partially torn paper with a generous number of locations, no additional information was provided by the staff. The night before checking out I found myself in need of a razor. I called guest services and they advised they’d be able to provide one. 40 minutes had passed and still no razor. After burning much time just waiting, I decided it would probably be faster for me to walk to CVS buy one and come back (which it was). Again, I mention the location is prime Times Square making every item the hotel forgets to bring you, easily found and easily accessible by foot. The cocktails at the “Living Room” bar are horrible. They range from $20-25 per cocktail and if you light a cigarette near it, you’ll probably catch on fire from the amount of unshaken liquor in the glass. A heavy pour isn’t always a good pour especially when you’re looking to actually be able to walk the city. We have the living room bar 3 tries before deciding to just have our first set of cocktails outside of the establishment. A benefit is that the W gives you $25 to spend at the bar daily with your $25 resort fee. For the first time in my life free wasn’t actually better. I really would love a call from someone at the establishment as I am certain the experiences my wife and I dealt with are not the “norm”. Overall, do not recommend. I would recommend The NY Marriott Marquis.
