Rubbish hotel, book the largest room and give you the smallest room, then the air conditioner is broken and there are abnormal noises, return to the hotel in the middle of the night and wait for ten minutes before someone opens the lobby door

Great boutique hotel. Had a hiccup at check-in, our assigned room was occupied. We were quickly reassigned to a different room and given breakfast vouchers for our inconvenience. Great room, nicely appointed although needed more places to store clothes. Bathroom was nicely renovated and very clean. Great value for the price we paid.

We stayed for a week at HGU. Although the rooms are a bit tired and can be noisy from the lift we found the beds and service very conformable. The team were great in helping out with options and ideas. I think the storage space for a week is a bit cramped but again we managed. the hotel facilities are ok. Overall it is a decent hotel in a very central location for exploring this wonderful city. I would use it again as the location and as we know what to expect can gauge the cost effectiveness. Nothing fancy but more than adequate. Didn't get to check out the roof top bar (missing a trick there) but also didn't eat in the hotel as there is so much so close.

This is my second time staying at the HGU and I have nothing but amazing things to say about this hotel and their staff. The staff is phenomenal and very kind and helpful. I believe it was Katherine was one of the many staff who helped us throughout our stay and she was very kind. We visited for our anniversary and birthday and staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. As for the room, it was spacious and very clean. The location is just steps from the subway and also walking distance to many amazing restaurants. Will be returning again and recommending to any other visiting New York! Thank you HGU for a great stay and experience!

Lovely little hotel that was perfect for my solo trip to NYC. Great location, close to transit and within walking distance to most of the cities iconic landmarks. Looking foward to a return trip in spring 2024

the photos on the site of the rooms are very misleading, our room looked nothing like the photo. it was the size of a walk in closet- we measured out of curiosity and it was a 78 sq foot room. 2 people cannot even change comfortably in the space. this was super disappointing for spending nearly $600 for a one night stay. the location was definitely amazing and within walking distance to everything we wanted, but the room really put a damper on the experience. it was my boyfriends birthday and we had really wanted to spend it in a nice hotel together and were definitely let down. there was also no room service options, no one cleaned our room during our stay, and robes cost extra. I also have not been refunded my security deposit of $100 that was supposed to be refunded upon checkout. the lobby/restaurant/cafe make this place look very nice, and the staff was friendly and helpful, however I would not stay here again.

Pro: Very good location. Walking distance to midtown. Super comfortable bed and pillows. Cosy common area. Great staff.
Cons: Street side rooms are very noisy. Poor window insulation. Standard rooms are on the small size and look a bit worn out. Missing some basics in-room amenities like kettle, tea, coffee, shower caps.

We had a wonderful stay at the HGU for the NYC Marathon! It's a fantastic location, central to so many things but also very easy to take the subway or hail a cab from the major surrounding streets. The staff here were absolutely lovely! They went above and beyond to help us with holding our bags until check in/after check out, ordering cabs as needed, and immediately resolving a broken fridge and low AC fan. In general they were just incredibly kind and helpful. The rooms are very small (typical for Manhattan) and felt a little stuffy due to that, but nothing uncomfortable. Even the mini-bar prices were super fair for NYC. I would absolutely book them again!
