Times Square Edition New York

Times Square New York|0.57km from New York University SPS Midtown Center
The first thing I will mention is that the hotel is 5 star and is expectedly, very expensive, being in the heart of Times Square. I took this into account when writing my review. If I am paying that much, my expectations would be higher than normal. I stayed for 12 nights over the Christmas and NY period so I obtained a very comprehensive view of the hotel and everything about it. Overall it was a very comfortable stay and the staff were always there to attend to any requests and issues. The moment I got out of my transfer car, there was a lovely young gentleman waiting to get all my bags and transport me upstairs to the reception. The check-in was reasonably flawless but there was a bit of confusion around the payment because of resort fees the hotel charges daily. I prepaid my booking and there was confusion over whether it included or excluded the resort fee. The reception area is immaculately presented and the bar and restaurant are both located here. I intended to use the gym during my stay, but didn't have time to even take a peek. Nor did I visit the bar or restaurant. There's way too many options outside to do that. The very polite and courteous young gentleman then took me up to my room. He showed me everything and away he went. I got a bit of a room upgrade which I highly appreciated and had a beautiful view of Times Square. I was on the 2nd highest floor, floor 39. The room is not big. It was adequate for one person but nothing more. I don't think I would be able to stay here if I was with another person. It would be too uncomfortable and I had to find space for my 2 suitcases and carry-on. The bathroom is open plan, with a door for the shower and toilet. A big problem I had in my room was that if it was windy you will hear a loud whistle coming through the bottom of the front door. It really annoyed me. I had to take the cover off the bed and make a snake shape to block the gap underneath the door to stop the noise. Even a bath towel didn't work. They need to fix this. The hotel is very new and the rooms are very beautifully equipped, presented and maintained. I was pleased to see that most of the things I requested before I arrived (some extra bath mats, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, mini fridge, bathroom scale) were mostly there upon arrival. I quantified the number of towels I needed as I was not getting any housekeeping during my 12 night stay but I did not get the quantity requested. I expected a bit more attention to detail for a 5 star hotel. Before I arrived I was asked if I was celebrating a special occasion and Guest Services pushed up my expectations as I was celebrating a special occassion and they said something nice, I assume maybe a cake or some alcohol would be waiting for me in the room. When I arrived there was nothing. And there was never going to be anything throughout my stay. I didn't mind and only remembered towards the end of the stay. When I enquired via email I was met with silence. They

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. This hotel (if you can call it a hotel) is the worst hotel I have EVER stayed in. The rooms are extremely small, even by NYC standards. You could hardly get around the bed. Granted the room was advertised as a Petit room however it is still sold as a two person room. The bed is what I believe to be a queen bed in the US however it was smaller than a UK double which is designed for 2 people. The bed measured 5ft long which for a 6ft person is completely ridiculous. The filth and dirt in the room makes me wonder the last time the room was cleaned. I actually wore shoes the entire time I was in the room as to avoid the dirty floor (wipe your feet on the way out!). The walls were dirty, full of black marks, ripped wallpaper and brown stains. The aircon vent continually fell off only to reveal a thick layer of dirt behind it and sticky bug traps that were riddled in lice and insects. The bathroom was OK, but by far roomy, there was no where to put washbags or anywhere to hang clean clothes. The towels were clean (that was the only thing about the room that was clean). If the tiles weren't brown they would have no doubt shown the dirt! We were offered a complimentary breakfast on check in however I wouldn't let a dog eat in the restaurant. That was very dark, depressing and lacking in any appeal that would make you want to dine in there. And if the room cleanliness is anything to go by god knows what the back of house standards are like. We had 3 nights booked but only stayed 1. We wouldn't have stayed 1 if we weren't so insanely tired from a long trip over and lack of alternative accommodation. On check out the receptionist was not surprised at all we were checking out and did not offer to refund the cost of the first night - instead she proceed to charge my card in front of me (including the tax) and then said I had to cancel the rest of the stay through booking.com. No compensation or apology was given which leads me to believe this is a regular occurrence. Do not believe the reviews! My partner pointed out that if you read the good reviews carefully you will notice the language/grammar used and frequent reference to the same member of staff implies the hotel are writing their own. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

I read a lot of comments and chose this hotel. I really didn't choose the wrong one. The location is very good, whether it is a long-distance bus or subway, or take the airport bus to the airport, or want to go to the Grand Central Railway Station, very close. . . There is also Times Square. . . At the intersection of 41st Street and Madison Avenue, the door is small, mainly the name on the door is written in a special font, which made us not notice when we first went there. 200 meters away from the New York City Public Library, which is not 200 meters away from Fifth Avenue, it is not necessary. There are three types of rooms in the hotel, which are about 19, 25, and 33 square meters, and 19 is relatively small. I booked 25 for the second night, but the order information sent by Ctrip to the hotel was wrong. The first night I checked in was the 19 room. It was very late to react. The size of the room was wrong. I coordinated with the front desk and Ctrip. Ctrip immediately found the problem and made compensation, and moved to the largest room of 33 the next day. If it is a single person, the room of 19 is enough. For two people, the baggage can't be opened, and it can only be put to the bedside. In addition, in particular, after the store, the hotel charges a fee of 20 US dollars per day. This fee is breakfast, all-day coffee snacks, afternoon tea, which is very worthwhile. Especially afternoon tea, with cheese, fruit, a variety of small snacks, red and white wine and champagne. . . . In addition, this location is on 41st Street, when the 99th Street in Central Park in New York is basically a full 2km. I ran in the morning and ran another 10km in Central Park. I am very happy. Central Park is a must-see for everyone who loves sports. Running, cycling, and dog-walking are all very good. . .

This hotel - the public spaces and the rooms -- are incredibly well designed to make use of NY-sized spaces. The inclusion of a bench and vanity mirror/ledge in the bathroom - even of a standard sized room with a queen bed -- is unexpected but SO useful. Also, they were able to fit in a couch and still have open walking space so you don't feel like you're in a closet. And useful plugs/charging at the bed, at the desk.

My check list for a hotel: Good mattress, good pillows. Check. Clean room with adequate space. Check. Small table, a desk space, a good-sized bed. Quiet. Definitely check and that shouldn't be taken for granted in NYC. Decent gym. Check. And no crazy glitches. Yep, plenty of elevators, good water pressure, the HVAC worked fine etc. etc. I thought the staff was friendly and proactive -- I requested coffee capsules -- they arrived quickly, a lot of them, and some water bottles just in case I was thirsty. I wish they would just put coffee machines in rooms instead of having to ask for one, but it's not very hard to ask. Bonus points: I showed up at noon expecting to have to check bags but a room was available so that made things nicer. Some others seem to be complaining about lack of room service but that was working when I was there.

This was our first trip to NY and I did a lot of research on where to stay. This hotel is the perfect location, the staff is friendly and helpful. It is walking distance to Times Square but far enough away from the crowds, noise and craziness. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. There are some great restaurants within walking distance and the theatre district is about a 10 minute walk. Very convenient.

I have nothing but good things to say about The Algonquin Hotel! Clean, comfortable, and classy. The customer service, bartenders, restaurant staff etc, are all so hospitable and accommodating. From complimentary Evian water, to a late check-out if need be, you can even bring your food from the restaurant up to your room! Lobby doors are locked after 1a so you feel safe and secure, and it's located right next to 42nd Bryant which is easy subway access to all over town. It's in the center of Manhattan so Central Park, Times Square, Upper West & East are just a few blocks away. I'll be staying here time and time again!
