The food is not great. Tapas menu offered in place of Sunday Roast! Tiny prawns came without any prep and were tasteless. Rest of the tapas appeared to just be reheated and not particularly nice. Even coffee comes from a pod not a barrester. Tried to give some feedback via messenger but not interested so leaving this review. Wont be rushing back.

Really enjoyed a couple of nights getaway here to get out of the city and hit the mtb trails. The place is ideally located for walking around Glentrool and visiting the 7stanes trail centres. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. A little further from other amenities in Newton Stewart than anticipated, but food and drink in-house was lovely. Tapas style menu was great, and the Galloway dark sky stout was perfect for getting comfy after getting in and showered after a day on the bike trails.

I reviewed this place last year so thought i would return to see if it had improved. I called in on a sat afternoon in blazing hot weather early august this year.I arrived at 3.30pm there were only 2 people sat outside and no one inside at all .I ordered a pint of bellhaven off a bloke wearing a flat cap which reminded me of the goodies eckythump ! Anyhow i was told it was off and no one to change the barrel ! There were 4 staff members behind the bar ! I got a pint of lager and walked outside . The front of the building was full of weeds and the pots either side of the entrance each contained a dead brown conifer !I ended up chatting to the two customers on bicycles who informed me i was lucky to find it open as they open and close without notice . They also said the food is now just heated up tapas which i find strange for a country pub situated next to a busy caravan site and village. I was also told the people in the village very rarely go in now due to attitude of owner if you dont eat you are not really welcome which i suppose is why i found it empty on a glorious sat afternoon. To me it urgently requires new owners as the current ones have clearly given up its such a shame as a village needs a local pub and with the campsite nearby this should be a winner . Before finishing my pint which tasted off if im honest there was a huge argument coming from the outside kitchen area with swearing and shouting and someone in chefs clothing banging things about. In this climate owners need to bend over backwards to provide a nice experience this place has been run down so badly i would,nt give it another look .In my opinion it needs to be run as a pub to serve the locals and caravan site .A missed opportunity.

Always love going to the House O’Hill, this Sunday lunch was no exception with both tapas, venison roast and then finished off with two fantastic desserts. Chocolate cake and an Ice cream sundae ( the best I have had for a number of years, would recommend to come for the Sundae an it’s own!) Unfortunately we didn’t try the real ales this time Sad to hear that there won’t be a House O’Hill Burns supper next January

We dined at this wonderful hotel whilst camping at a nearby site - and we would highly recommend a meal and a pint here after a day exploring the Galloway Forest Park! We were given a warm welcome by the lovely staff - and our wee dog was greeted with a doggy biscuit (much to her delight)! The food was delicious (try the Thai beef or the black pudding fritters 🤤) and the presentation was just excellent (I've never eaten cake with a silver shovel before!) The staff were really attentive - and another round of the locally produced session was on the table almost before we'd made it back to our seat! Having left with a smile on our faces (and feeling pretty full!), we look forward to returning to the Galloway Forest Park soon and staying in the hotel this time. Thanks for squeezing us in before a busy night's service started ladies: you really made our night!

This is a fantastic little pub and tapas restaurant - a surprisingly modern and exciting find in this area of the Forest of Galloway! We ate here twice on our recent trip to the area. Both times the food was excellent - although it’s expensive if you are hungry, as is often the case with tapas. They have a fantastic range of veggie and vegan options too, which was much appreciated. However, sadly the service was really inattentive on our second visit and so I have to drop a star. We were seated in a side room with two other couples and we were all left for over 40 mins without a member of staff coming to clear plates, take orders, etc. It felt as though we had been completely forgotten and when staff did come, it was rushed to try to compensate but still multiple errors made (drinks charged twice on the bill, no cutlery brought with desserts) and no apologies offered. This soured the second visit unfortunately.

Having had dinner in this bar many times before, we loved the food and always left feeling full to the brim. Have visited twice since the menu has changed to Tapas, and we are so disappointed. Even ordering 4 dishes each, and then a dessert, we walked out still feeling hungry. And we are not large people! The tapas is much more expensive than the previous menu was if you add up all the dishes, so we can see why the premises has done this. Sadly, it’s put us off returning. Staff are lovely and friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Dogs are also allowed which is a bonus. Please bring back the old menu!

We were staying at a campsite nearby and after a very long warm walk we popped in here for a drink. Love little pub, staff were super friendly and the drinks are very reasonably priced. We decided to book a table for food as the menu looked amazing. It's only a small place and it gets busy so best to book a table to avoid disappointment. I can honestly say that the food was some of the best tapas I've had in a long time. Great idea to serve tapas and the portions were just right. If you are staying nearby then I would highly recommend that you try the food here. My husband was also a fan of the local pale ale that they were serving.
