Nikko Pension l'Escale

What an amazing place to stay - Kas and his wife made us extremely welcome and provided excellent restaurant recommendations as well as places to visit. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the breakfast was excellent (with juice, yogurt, ham and omelette and fruit, plus toast and tea/coffee). The bedrooms are large and the bed are comfy. The shower was also super clean. It is uphill from Nikko Tobu station but you can easily get a taxi from the station for 1,000/1,100 (£5/6) which saves carrying the luggage. Short walk to Kirifuri waterfall which is beautiful and if you’re lucky you’ll get to see the monkeys along the way. I couldn’t recommend more highly and look forward to coming back in the future!

The place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of "omotenashi". Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again.

So beautiful traditional japanese house excellent cleaning and maintanced with very welcome and warm owner. Even it is not a luxury accomodation it is really very good. I would definitely come back if ever come again to Nikko
