Kentisbury Grange ★★★★

📍 Kentisbury, North Devon District

"I’ve been fortunate enough to be well travelled and stayed in hundreds of hotels but this one is one of the best. The little details make this place so special. The accommodation was of exceptional quality with a massive bathroom, the room was spacious but so cosy I was asleep by 9.30! The food was delicious, the quality was outstanding and so lovely to see the chef taking real pride in what he does. The service was amazing, the waitresses and management were so accommodating and went above and beyond for us. This is the best value for a hotel, we hope to be back v soon!!"

The Sherborne Lodge ★★★

📍 Torrs Park, Ilfracombe, North Devon District

"As per another review on here, I experienced a domestic incident on one of the nights I stayed (shouting, swearing, banging doors). This was quite scary as I was staying on my own. I found the room quite run down and didn't get the chance to have breakfast as they only served from 8.30am. Positives are that the host was very friendly and the towels and bed were new and clean but I'm afraid I won't be staying again. "

The Royal & Fortescue Hotel ★★★
"When we arrived the hotel looked beautiful outside and inside. We had a comfort room booked room 112 Which cost £278 for 2 nights. When we got to our room it was very small more like a single room, There were three small drawers and a wardrobe to put your clothes in. The room had a window which looked out to a brick wall, it was very hot in the room even with the fan on. The room was very dark even with the lights on. The bathroom was like an obstacle course trying to get in the bath for a shower. We asked if they had another room but we were told they were fully up. They were not helpful at all. We went for a meal in the restaurant and the food was very nice, and the atmosphere was good. Unfortunately due to the room and price paid for the room we will not be booking this hotel again."

"had a good stay here and the breakfast was out of this world! Really good value. Beautiful and clean rooms with the best shower ever! Plenty of tea, coffee etc. Perfect location, easy and pretty walk to town but in a very quiet and quaint street. Ilfracombe is quirky and fab but clearly suffering the same social issues as many seaside towns and was a little uncomfortable with children out and about in the evening. I cannot give 5 stars as there was a bit of a tone of this in the guest house. There was a persistent smell of cigarettes, some incredible strange goings on in the night. Lots of movement, banging and shouting. The hostess was a very interesting lady. While she attempted to be welcoming and clearly works very hard I felt she was very over familiar and at times It felt uncomfortable. I would potentially return based on the rooms, food, price and location but absolutely not with children!"
