The Devonshire Arms

In a beautiful setting with lovely spacious rooms. High level of cleanliness and a great shower. Love the old windows with their shutters. Nice touch of homemade shortbread and a cute stag wine stopper to take home. Plusses: - huge comfy bed - decent pillow choice! - lots of space - great views (Whitney Neil room) - really very very clean! - great location Be Aware: - steep staircase access, not for those with mobility concerns - bathroom ‘waterworks’ are pretty noisy - road is noisy from around 6am Didn’t rate the brekky. Not a busy service but it wasn’t piping hot food. The toast and butter were served on the same plate as the food and made soggy by tinned tomatoes. Poor quality thin bread (see pics) toast not really toasted. Could also do with more than just one hot drink too. One went back barely touched, chef didn’t query - find that very unusual. Shame really as the meal the previous evening was wonderful and had us excited for a cracking start to the day.

Beautiful hotel, immaculately clean, friendly staff and great food! We will definitely visit again and recommend to friends. From the moment we were greeted as we walked in, the staff were all outstanding. Our room was lovely, will extra little touches such as fresh milk in the fridge. We had only intended to eat in the restaurant the first night, but enjoyed it so much we ate there the second night too.

Have just spent a lovely couple of nights at this beautiful hotel in the loveliest little village.The most beautifully decorated establishment that is immaculately clean with the friendliest staff providing a first class service, everything about this hotel is so tasteful with the utmost attention to detail and superb food. Really great Sunday roast today. Such a lovely vibe, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere . Hats off to all the lovely members of staff, clearly well trained !!!! Nothing too much trouble. The beef was delicious. Wine excellent and desserts to die for. Thank you. We will be back.

Recommend the Devonshire 100%. We have stayed here multiple times over the last few years and, having stayed in a lot of places across the UK, I can honestly state that this is the best in every way. The whole place is kept spotlessly clean both inside and out. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are supremely comfortable. The breakfast is the best anywhere and even those needing to eat gluten free can have the full English. What a result! I am posting a separate review of the restaurant but, in case you're wondering, the food is fabulous. Supremely comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation, fabulous food and add to that the nicest staff team I've ever met anywhere - this makes the Devonshire a winner in every way.

Myself and my husband recently stayed for 1 night for our wedding anniversary. We eat in the restaurant very regularly and have done for a good couple of years now, but up until recently we had never stayed over. It's safe to say I wish we had done it sooner. It was such as lovely experience. We booked the suite which was absolutely beautiful. Extremely spacious and very luxurious too. Spotlessly clean and lots of nice touches that made you feel so comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our stay included breakfast, which had a nice twist to it in that you didn't just get the standard breakfast, they have a special menu/set up for B&B guests which makes the stay feel even more special. It was of course delicious. Perhaps we are bias as we eat here so much anyway, but we very much enjoyed our stay and wish we could stay more often. We would highly recommend staying here to anyone who enjoys luxury with a more homely feel. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable!
