We booked afternoon tea for £35 for 2. (Goupon) We were early but that was ok as we waited in the bar. We were told we had to wait to our time slot as the chef needed to prepare for our tea. fair enough. When the time came up we were taken to a the orangery which was a very pleasant room. Table was set with very pretty plates and cups etc. Given choice of tea or coffee. No choices of types of tea or coffee given. Hubbys coffee pot overflowed when plunged (he was being gentle) and this made a mess on the table cloth. We wasn't offered a clean table cloth. Ok not a big problem but would be nice for the table cloth to be changed. A 3 tired cake plate arrived. finger sandwiches (2 x of each): cheese, ham, salmon and egg. Tasted nice, However they were very cold. Obviously had been taken out of the fridge a few minutes before serving. Not very freshly made. 2 x slither of homemade sausage roll. Honestly it was about 5 mm thick, at least give us a mini sausage roll each or even 1/2 mini one. The cakes. 2 x tiny Victoria sponge, 2 x tiny bit of a mini batten burg, 2 x one bite of lemon drizzle, 2 x one bite of marble cake. These were so small. There was no pastry cakes or anything interesting. No choice of scone. Only fruit. as i don't eat currents we took them home for hubby to eat later, He threw them away as they were dry and heavy. Didn't feel fleshly made. 2 raspberries, blackberry and 2 tiny dark chocolate truffles (peas size) Not once were we asked if everything was OK or If we needed more tea or coffee. One staff member did say bye as she looked up from cleaning a table. Very disappointing. We have been to other venues who supplied a very nice afternoon tea, and didn't charge as much.
