Hotel Sekumiya

Hotel Sekumiya

📍 113 Obamashirahige, Obama
★★★ 8.2 (108 reviews)

"Location is about 10min walk from the jr Obama station, but a big part was via the shotengai which is covered, making the walk not too bad. Stayed two nights and the single room is relatively spacious. There’s even a ucc coffee machine in room to enjoy. Hotel has an indoor n outdoor bath onsite on two different levels, personally prefer the outdoor. Breakfast over two mornings were great and wholesome, different on both days."

Hotel Hanatsubaki

Hotel Hanatsubaki

📍 72-1 Obamashiratori, Obama
★★★ 10 (4 reviews)

"Never felt more welcome and cared for during my trip than in this hotel. Everybody from front to restaurant was kind, helpfull and forgiving of mistakes. The room is so beautifull, the smell of the tatami is so good. The things in the room are clearly chosen and cared for with love. And the view, well you will never get tired of looking out over the coastline with the boats going in and out and people fishing from the pier. The diner was a perfect display of culinary skill and in line with the season. It was a feast for the eye as well as the mouth. Breakfast was perfect as well. Same as above. The common bath was also just right, if you are early enough you can look at the sea while enjoing it. Thank you everybody, it could not have been better."

"There was a plastic garbage bag by the entrance, and it was visibly unclean. It also had a bad reputation in the neighborhood."

📍 10-4 Ano, Obama
★★ 8.3 (7 reviews)

"It was a very comfortable place to stay. The meals, made with local ingredients, were wonderful, and the way the old building was renovated in a modern way created the most memorable and enjoyable experience I've ever had. I would love to come back at a different time of year."

Obama Machiya Stay

📍 Fukui, Obama, Wakuri 24-45-2, Obama
★★★ 9.1 (3 reviews)

"Matchiya stay was a great experience. The house was clean and cosy. We have ordered both the dinner and breakfast to be provided. Dinner was sumptuous, however it was a pity that there was no soy sauce included when we unpacked the dinner that was delivered. Otherwise, Obama was a nice city for a chillax visit."

📍 10-15 Ana, Obama
★★ 10 (1 reviews)

"I think it depends on the time of year, not many rooms, but I was able to spend a relaxing time. It feels like The Japanese house, but it was renovated and the building was clean. The seafood centered on pufferfish is luxurious in quality and quantity and is very satisfying. The staff also explained the food and kindly responded. The bath is small and I think only about 3~4 people can enter, but I think it's okay if you stagger the time. It was near the beach, so I was able to go out to the sea immediately and it was pleasant to take a walk."

Wakasa Marine Plaza

📍 44 Okozu, Obama

"It was worth the amount. I couldn't enter because the bath was too dirty."

"When we arrived at the inn, the front desk staff greeted us in an elegant and pleasant manner. We were served matcha green tea and sweets in the lobby, and first relaxed before being shown to our room. The building is old but has good taste, and the ornamental plants in the building are well maintained. The room was also well-cleaned, and we were able to relax very comfortably. The food was elegantly presented, but I ended up leaving half of my rice pot. I had a little more than I'd ordered, but was very satisfied. The restaurant staff were all smiling and neat. The same person greeted us at the front desk when we checked out, so it was good to be able to express my gratitude. I was also happy to receive the chopsticks as a souvenir. I was in a good mood from start to finish, and I'm really glad I chose this place."

"Big rooms facing the bay. Staff was helpful even though none of them speak much English. The lady with short hair seems to be there all the time. We saw her before check in and saw her again early next morning. She's very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. Public bath is next hotel and comes with bay view too."

"This was my third visit. I was blown away by the quality and quantity of the fugu course the first time around, and was so satisfied I returned. However, this time, the portions were significantly reduced. The sashimi was only two-thirds the size, the fried chicken had no meat, just the bits of meat attached to the bone, and the tetchiri had so little bone that it didn't really have any flavor, and the portion was tiny. The rice porridge lacked any umami. There was no greeting or farewell upon arrival. Even though they have a large public bath, can two people fit in the tub? It's not a hot spring. The rooms aren't particularly good. The only highlights were the hearty fugu dishes, typical of the region, and the all-you-can-drink craft beer in the lounge. If the fugu dishes were so shoddy, it wouldn't be worth 60,000 yen per person (including alcohol). The staff also lacked hospitality. I was stunned when they accidentally brought sparkling wine from one customer to the other at dinner. I know many inns that started out good but then gradually deteriorated in terms of food and hospitality, and this one seems to be a typical example. I won't be returning."
