Nehô Suites St Jean Maurienne

"An excellent base for cycling in the Maurienne Valley. I stayed here for a week to tick some of the classic climbs in the area (Telegraphe, Galibier, Croix de Fer, Glandon, Lacets de Montvernier, Col du Chaussy, Col du Madeleinne, etc.). The hotel is very new, modern, spotlessly clean and directly across the street from the train station. The rooms are a very good size and have small, functional kitchens. They are also very well sound insulated so I never once heard either a train or any of my neighboring guests. The hotel seems very popular with cyclists, but doesn’t allow bikes in the rooms; however, there is a very large and secure bike storage room with convenient access both to the hotel and the parking lot outside. Be aware that bike tools are very limited consisting of an incomplete set of hex wrenches during my visit though there are bike maintenance stands. When I arrived, there were 2 floor pumps in the bike room, however by the time I left, both had disappeared. I don’t know if they were the property of other cyclists staying there or if someone made off with them. If the former, the hotel would be well advised to provide a floor pump for visiting cyclists. Parking is ample and convenient though there is a daily charge. Hotel is within easy walking distance to the town so easy to explore local restaurants etc. The breakfast buffet (also a fee) is amply supplied with hot and cold foods, coffee, and juices and is well maintained by the staff. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again if I return to the area."

"What a refreshing hotel, the second in France in a week. From arrival to getting bit and pieces sorted the team here have been excellent. Owner / manager is always around, the bar staff and waiters /ess’s are brilliant. Breakfast is comprehensive and local and French with a good selection. We ate in and out and the house half board never disappointed. All cooked in house (I asked) so non bought in rubbish and you could tell. Cosy bar with fire and tv, lots of drinks to choose from. Rooms and the hotel have been refurbed and I have to say simple but comfy beds, good decor , hot water that doesn’t run out. Pool good and serve the purpose and is great to sit and look at the view. Local ski hire and another restaurant without going up the hill! Jean on reception is amazing and makes it a pleasure to see him there doing his thing, skis, restaurants, info, check in etc. Will be back but don’t tell the English as fortunately there aren’t many here!"
