The location is very good, just a few minutes walk from Otaru JR Station and the canal, and within walking distance of various attractions. The room is large, more spacious than most Japanese hotels, very clean, and the bedding is very comfortable to sleep on. The owner is a Chinese beauty, very enthusiastic, and very familiar with the surrounding scenic spots. It is an ideal hotel to stay in a foreign country!

Amazing
BBanjierutudebalinghouThis is a hotel with a very interesting story. It is located on the hilltop of Otaru Chikko. All rooms are Japanese tatami, very large and clean. You can call the hotel to send a car to JR Otaru Chikko Station for pick-up. It is a bit troublesome to arrive at the hotel by yourself. The dinner and breakfast are very rich and are included in the room rate. For hot springs, in addition to the small hot spring pool in the room, the hotel's open-air bath faces the sea, which feels great! I will stay here again in the future.
DDriftwood 2046Otaru Kourakuen is a delightful onsen ryokan in Otaru, Japan, perfect for a romantic getaway. My recent stay there for three days and two nights was nothing short of enchanting.
Nestled in a serene area, Otaru Kourakuen offers a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle. The ryokan is conveniently located near top attractions like the Otaru Harbour Lookout and Otaru Port Marina. The Japanese-style room with an open-air bath was a highlight. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated, providing a perfect blend of traditional and modern comforts. The open-air bath added a touch of luxury and romance to our stay.
The staff at Otaru Kourakuen were incredibly attentive and friendly. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and memorable. Their warm hospitality made us feel right at home. The ryokan offers excellent facilities, including free Wi-Fi, room service, and an on-site restaurant. The onsen (hot spring) was a rejuvenating experience, and the beautiful garden added to the overall charm of the place. The meals were a culinary delight. We enjoyed traditional Japanese cuisine, which was both delicious and beautifully presented. The breakfast and dinner served at the ryokan were some of the best meals we had during our trip.
Our stay at Otaru Kourakuen was a perfect blend of relaxation and romance. The serene environment, excellent service, and luxurious amenities made it an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend Otaru Kourakuen for anyone looking for a romantic and peaceful getaway in Japan.
SSongrentoudehaopengyouสงกรานต์Because of the soaring housing prices during the Sapporo Snow Festival, I chose to stay in Otaru at a similar price😀
At first, I didn't consider the distance between the canal and Otaru Station. I was really annoyed to drag my suitcase on the skating snow road in Otaru for about 20 minutes. I learned my lesson when I checked out and asked the front desk to help me call a taxi, starting at 700 yen😆
The front desk layout of this hotel is very much like the hot spring hotel in old movies in the 1950s. The souvenirs sold are of good quality but a little expensive. Although hot spring hotels have a hot spring tax of 150 yen per day, they have small gifts such as snacks, which feel like they are worth it😘
The service staff are very enthusiastic. The general decline in the level of the service industry in Japan does not seem to exist in their home, just like the old five-star hotels😁
The breakfast quality is good. Can you believe it? There are fruits and strawberries🍓. On the morning of check-out, they also sent a fried fish. Although I am not used to it, I am still very grateful😂
ZZheng LiStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!
AAnonymous UserPrivate room was good, bathrooms outside the room and shower rooms on 2/F. My neighbors were noisy slamming the doors every time they went in and out; talking loud so I didn’t sleep well. Ok if you’re used to sharing space otherwise regular hotel may be better.
GGuest UserI think this youth hostel is very clean, because your bed sheets and quilt covers are on your bed and you need to arrange them yourself.
As a post-00s, I like this place very much. There are kitchen utensils, tableware, coffee and other daily necessities here; I can't find anything to eat at night, so I go to the station to buy instant noodles and come back. You don't have to worry about anything because everyone eats supper in the lobby like you; I get up in the morning and make myself a cup of hand-brewed coffee with the hotel's coffee. I stayed here for one night on my own and didn't feel strange.
What you need to pay attention to nearby is the downhill slope at the door and the nearby railway, which you must pay attention to when commuting.
GGuest UserAdvantages: The natural environment is good, the surrounding green waters and green mountains, the air is fresh, and the stars can be seen at night.
Disadvantages: far from the city, there is a large hotel around the hotel that can provide catering services. There is no hair dryer in the room, no pot for boiling water (the hair dryer is shared at the front desk, and there is a water dispenser for boiling water in the corridor). There is no table in the room, it is not convenient to put things. The room type provided is different from the description of Trip.com (no sofa).
GGuest UserThe room was pretty good. I stayed here for two days. I went back to Otaru City one day, skied the other day, and took a hot spring bath at night. There is an izakaya called Xiliu nearby. The food is very good. I drank a little wine and took a hot spring bath every day before going to bed. It was very comfortable~
The ski resort is very good, not many people, the snow is very powdery, and all equipment can be bought/rented. Beginners can go there to play empty-handed.
SStripedPumpkinHotel facilities were dated but mostly well-maintained. After spending 2 nights in Sapporo's small hotel room, it was good to have more space to spread out.
Outdoor hot spring was fantastic and the onsen is open till late night - giving guests enough time to enjoy it even after a full day out.
If you've a rental car, the location poses no problem. There is a large, 24-hour market nearby and it's only a quick 15-min drive to Otaru.
The staff were kind and provided ready assistance whenever we needed it.
Only issue I had was noise from the room above us. For some reason, the guests were running around in the room and it was very noisy.
Overall, it's a quaint, old-fashioned hotel with good ambience.
GGuest UserI stayed with five friends. The room was not particularly large, but it had a kitchen and a washing machine, so it felt like we were sharing a room. I thought it was a strange arrangement to have the toilet in the bathroom. There is a large torii gate in front of the hotel, so you have to go around it to get to the parking lot. The signs may be a little hard to understand. Check-in is unmanned and you can check in by yourself using a tablet, but if you have trouble finding your way, they will help you by calling.
