The breakfasts are even better (if that is possible) with all the breads home made and delicious eggs as well. We stayed in the honeymoon suite - magnificent, and our guest was more than happy with her beautiful (blue) room The honesty bar is full of great local wines, to b enjoyed with the wonderful views from the deck (where we saw Brydes whales spouting) and fabulous sunsets We enjoyed a platter one night (excellent) and ate at Kloeks @ home the second night (huge portions) and had a fabulous day wine tasting in the Overberg, coming back to this haven. Thank you Antje and team for looking after us so well - see you again soon xx"

"Having visited for dinner in 2025, we decided to stay 2 nights at Schoone Ordt. Swellendam is a lovely little town and a grest place to break up the journey from Cape Town to the places in the east of the Garden Route. Especially of note is the food. It is quite simply fabulous. A short menu (choice of 4 dishes for each course) always instills confidence that the chef is extremely capable. And so it proved. Everything we ate was fantastic. Also the wines are all locally sourced and they were spectacular too. All the staff were wonderful - led by the charming Alison. We will definitely go back when in Swellendam."

"Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a global leader in regenerative tourism. This place possesses awe-inspiring beauty. I have never been on a flower safari before - this was a pinnacle experience. Their commitment to local community empowerment, biodiversity stewardship, and creating transformational tourism experiences was evident in every detail that I encountered during my visit. I traveled by myself and stayed in the Garden Lodge for 4 nights - I think this was an ideal length for a visit to experience the diverse nature areas: ancient Milkwood trees, Afro-montane forest, Fynbos, the beach, the farm, and Klipgat Cave. I tried all of the experiences that the reserve offers (I didn't do any extra add ons). The Grootbos Florilegium is a world-class museum of beautifully presented botanical painting of flowering plants growing in the reserve - this is such an astonishing part of the place; the Florilegium is remarkable and magical. Horse riding was fantastic. My guide was a botanical expert, wise, and so interesting.The kitchen and the food ethos was top-tier slow food. The plating of every dish aesthetically recreated the botanical flowering beauty of the place. My lodging, and all of the built environment, were gorgeously decorated and throughout high-end green materials ethos was applied. Amazing spa. Fantastic walks. "

Grace Walk Guest House
"We stopped here for one night making our way up the garden route. The B&B is very nicely located in the historical section of town with a very beautifully and lovingly maintained garden with small pool where a sunbird feeder lured these lovely creatures into the garden. Very quiet and the host was most gracious, offering to store our bicycle in their workshop and giving recommendations for supper. The room itself may be a little dated, with slightly erratic water pressure in the shower and only wooden stable doors separating the loo from the room, but it was fitted with a small fridge, coffee and tea supplies and beautifully clean. The small veranda also allowed us to sit in the tranquility of the garden if we wished. It was perfectly comfortable with a sleeper couch for the little one and any misgivings about the room were forgotten by the time breakfast rolled around and we were offered cooked breakfast (creatively served with edible flowers from the garden), scones, coffee, tea, yoghurt, preserves, cereals... the host saying that if we left the breakfast table hungry, their job wasn't done. So, in all, quite a pleasant stay. No complaints."

"My best friend and I spent two nights at Houw Hoek Hotel for a much-needed escape — no husbands, no children, just peace, laughter, and spa robes — and it was exactly what we needed. The spa treatments were divine. Truly relaxing, beautifully done, and we had so much fun while still feeling completely pampered. The spa staff were fantastic — professional, warm, and with a great sense of humour. They matched our energy perfectly, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Our hotel room was perfect for the two of us. The twin beds made into one massive bed felt luxurious and incredibly comfortable. A special mention must go to the ceiling fan and the newly designed ceiling — absolute genius. I was worried we might be too warm, but the airflow was perfect. We napped, relaxed, and slept comfortably without needing air conditioning at all. Whoever designed that setup deserves applause. We felt so safe that we slept with the windows and sliding doors open, which added to the relaxed, country-hotel feeling. The restaurant was lovely — well-priced food, good portions, and friendly, helpful staff who made dining easy and enjoyable. One suggestion: you really should advertise your shops more. The wine shop, the small convenience shop (for sweets and water), and especially the stunning gift shop are absolute gems. I ended up buying last-minute Christmas gifts there as we were leaving — had we known about them earlier, we definitely would have spent more time (and money!) there. The only negative comment I have is regarding the gardens. While the lawns were green and well maintained, the flower beds and edges looked a bit neglected. That said, this could easily be due to staff shortages or the realities of a Cape Town summer with water restrictions — so it’s very understandable. Overall, we had a wonderful, relaxing stay and would absolutely return — next time for longer. Thank you to the team at Houw Hoek Hotel for a memorable breakaway."

"High Hopes is in an ideal location for a stay in Greyton - just outside of the main part of the village and therefore peaceful and quiet, but still walking distance to the village and its restaurants and shops. Our room was spacious with a large comfortable bed, and a large bay window that looked out onto the natural garden. Sharon who checked us in was very helpful and friendly."
