Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel

Not great. The location isn't central at all; it's quite out of the way. The room is tiny, typical of a budget hotel. What bothered me most was how dirty it was—there were bloodstains on the pillow, and the sink was just grimy. Plus, there was trash left by the previous guest! Very disappointing.

The hotel's ambiance is wonderfully preserved, offering a cozy, traditional, and vintage feel. Parking and check-in were very convenient. However, cleanliness needs improvement. There were noticeable dirty marks on both the bath towels and the bedding. The mark on the bath towel was particularly obvious, looking like a stain that couldn't be washed out. Since it was already 11 PM when we checked in, we didn't inform the front desk immediately. When I mentioned it to the lobby manager during check-out, I was simply told, "You needed to tell us right away." I felt very disappointed; the hotel's environment is great, but the hygiene was truly surprising...

✅ Pros: · Free and convenient parking, very car-friendly. · About a fifteen-minute drive from Oxford city center, so the location is decent. · Staff are enthusiastic and have a great attitude. · Breakfast quality is good. ❌ Cons: · Room cleanliness was poor; there were obvious stains and dust in details, and cobwebs were everywhere. · The room pictures on Ctrip did not match the actual room I stayed in. I booked based on the beautiful photos displayed on the platform, but the actual room was not in the same league at all. The hotel staff explained that 'every room is different,' which implies that the platform might only display 'show rooms' or the best room, and guests have no way of knowing which room they'll be assigned. This can be very misleading. I recommend contacting the hotel directly to confirm specific room configurations before booking, and not relying solely on the pictures.

The hotel's garden is beautiful, and it's lovely to sit at the bar, enjoying a drink or a meal while looking out at it. Breakfast was decent; although the selection wasn't huge, the food tasted good and the presentation was quite refined. The only drawback is that the room was a bit small, but that's pretty normal for the UK. Overall, it's a good place, and the garden is definitely a highlight. It's about a ten-minute drive to Oxford city center.
