The Charles Pacific Grove, an Artfully Designed Inclusive Inn

We spent four fabulously comfortable and decadent four nights at The Charles in Pacific Grove. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a nod to the age of the building (1904). Historic photographs of Pacific Grove line the hallways. The lounge is comfortable and the late afternoon wine and snacks added to the conviviality. Breakfasts were varied and fresh. The breads and quiche were yummy. The beds are soft and at night you can hear the faint crash of the waves on the shore. The hotel is in walking distance to an array of restaurants. The house-managers and staff were very welcoming and friendly. We will come again if we come back to the area.

Extremely quiet, comfortable, and cozy. Great bed, and I find that to be quite rare. I loved the decor using all vintage or reproduction pieces. Exquisitely designed. In the evening they offer quality wine and evening beverages, too. I highly recommend The Charles when staying in PG. I’m a local, so I should know!!

My husband and I stayed at your beautiful place a few weeks ago and enjoyed everything . Stayed there again last week and can't say the same. Apparently many changes have taken place. First of all, Ian and Kiersten are no longer there, replaced by people that barely speak English. Communication was impossible. Breakfast was very skimpy and not replenished. Eggs not cooked. We were there 3 days and no sweet rolls. We were in 104 and sound system directly below us came on at 6:30 am, startled us awake and againcouldnt communicate with only person there. Sorry to say we won't be staying there anymore and cannot recommend it to friends or family. The price we paid was quite high a d couldn't Communicate with people that answer the phone, they hardly speak English, to request discount for Veterans or other. Very disappointing Martie Ditzler

Recently renovated and opened with delightful designed atmosphere from The name "The Charles" to the whimsical play on title with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth over the fireplace. Well appointed common areas for wine, sherry and appetizers every afternoon to the same place for fresh baked cookies each eve, to really a continental breakfast each morning. Comfy enough to sit and converse with other guests if you and they choose. I met a delightful couple and their adult daughter one afternoon and shared breakfast the next morning. The rooms also were delightfully appointed and comfortable. Staff were amazing and friendly and responsive. Including making me capuchin in the morning. Well situated to walk to many things in Pacific Grove, as well as to drive further a field. Free parking on property. No reservation in recommending and will come again .

The place was nice. However, the King room was small. Perhaps it felt smaller because it had so much furniture in it. Furnishings were new and nice, but not to my taste. Bathroom is old, needs remodeling. Main rooms again had very nice furnishing, just not to my taste. Nice touch was wine & cheese in the evening and baked cookies at night. Breakfast is a decent continental breakfast. Free parking is nice. It's at the corner of two main roads but the room was quiet

My recent stay at The Charles was a delight, from the glorious décor, both in the common areas and in my guestroom, to the scrumptious continental breakfast and the ever helpful, attentive, and accommodating staff. I wish I could return again, but I am moving soon from Washington, DC to Pacific Grove and will have my own accommodations when I next return to the area! But I shall recommend The Charles to visiting friends and family.
