Upon arrival in Palermo our ******* booked and paid for in advance accommodation failed to show at check-in and could not be reached by phone. Subsequently, as our situation had an urgency to it, we booked with Residenza Wagner since it was within a short walk from our location. Shortly after booking we discovered that Residenza Wagner requires 48 hours notice - we attempted to call Residenza Wagner to arrange a check-in for same day with no answer at the posted number. Advising ******* of the situation, ******* advised us to cancel the booking to avoid no-show charges and ******* would advocate on our behalf to obtain a refund waiver. Here in lays the rub, this is a no refund arrangement and the owners were insistent that there are no exceptions - despite feigning otherwise. ******* is powerless to enforce. I made the decision to book the accommodation as an urgent contingency to house my family - I take responsibility for that decision. However, owners that hide behind a no refund policy with a 48 hour notice requirement should never have accepted the transaction - ******* has to take some responsibility in this regard as well. And dispassionate greedy owner operators are not a value to the B&B community. Indeed, at least at some level these kind of blind policies function as a policy of theft. It’s not going to break the bank but, it is a lesson to be aware and wary of these kind of B&B owner operators. Never again as has been said - even so, a snooker awaits at every turn.
