Best Hotels in Paramaribo, Suriname

Hotel Palacio took great care of us during a stressful travel period. We were traveling from Georgetown Guyana (where my phone was stolen) to three different destinations on different travel schedules. Hotel Palacio helped us coordinate our travel (to and from the international and local airports) in taxis and busses. They made us feel safe and secure in a very comfortable and homey environment. And they take VISA. All things two American couples are looking for when they arrive in Paramaribo. I highly recommend staying here

Thanksgiving

I had a perfectly pleasant stay at this Courtyard. Nice, simple and modern room. Overall better than an average Courtyard in the U.S. The location won't work for everyone though - the hotel is a bit out of town. We had a rental car (from Hertz), so the location wasn't an issue. There's also Avis car rental next to the hotel, but I couldn't price it up through the Avis website so not sure if it's open (if it is, I'd take a taxi form the airport to the hotel and rent a car from there). More generally, we really liked Suriname - super friendly people, we generally felt safe, the food was delicious, prices weren't crazy. All of this in stark contrast to Guyana. It seems that most countries don't need a visa to enter, but you still need to pay the entry fee online. I read multiple reports saying that you can no longer do it on arrival at PBM or ORG airport - this wasn't true as a couple of passengers from my flight were paying the entry fee on arrival at ORG (September 2023). You also need a yellow fever vax certification - this was checked by the airline at check-in. Another hopefully helpful tip - Transguyana Airlines runs 3 flights a day between the small regional airport in Paramaribo (Zorg en Hoop - airport code ORG) and its equivalent in Georgetown (Ogle - airport code OGL). These are super convenient as the main international airport in both Georgetown and Paramaribo is an hour away from the city. Note that these flights were not coming up on Kayak or *******, but were easy to book through the airline's website. FWIW, there was also a flight from PBM to OGL which may be helpful for those arriving at the main airport in Paramaribo and connecting to Georgetown. The flight itself is on a small 12-seater (Cessna Caravan) which is fun on its own. I wish I had more time in Suriname - what a fascinating country!

Fantastic hotel with excellent location. Very pleasant, helpful and good staff. Rooms delicious spacious, beds wide and ok. Breakfast, dinner and bar excellent. Hygiene good. Punt for improvement: we had great problems in all rooms( we had 5) it was difficult, if not impossible to turn off the AC. Not everyone wants to sleep in AC! Full beautiful garden up to the Surinam River, with many kinds of birds!

This is a nice, basic, spacious apartment, located at a small alley in North Paramaribo neighborhood. Full kitchen, and good shower pressure with ample hot water. There is a laundry room at the ground floor if you need to use it. The location of Rachel's Apartment is very good: - Safe residential neighborhood with supermarkets, cafes and restaurants. Fine to walk day and night, unlike the downtown area which can be a little seedy after night falls. - 10 min walk to the Historic Inner City of Paramaribo - 10 min walk to 2 covid testing sites (MyLab and MeDiLab) It is best to reach out to the proprietor by whatsapp before you arrive with your ETA to ensure someone is there to check you in. He owns two apartments in the same area and therefore may not always be around to greet you. There is also a security guard onsite 7 PM-7 AM that can allow guests in after hours.

In Paramaribo there are several beautiful places to stay. This is not my first stay in Suriname. This time I chose to experience Torarica Royal. I booked the luxury garden room. I got a room with 1 palm tree and a view of the parking place. I asked to arrange another room, otherwise cancellation and I go somewhere else. I got a better room. Well, beautiful and spacious room with a balcony. Well, it's good for that money, but not all rooms have a balcony, so a tip: book a room in Torarica Royal, book a room with a view to a swimming pool. All rooms on all floors are just better in terms of view. Eating is not cheap, but fantastic presentation and the service is sublime. Breakfast is very moderate. In affordable hotels in Paramaribo you have a lot better breakfast. The swimming pool is 1.75 deep and the stairs are very high. If you have physical limitations, you cannot swim and is not suitable for children. If you are going to Royal, you can also use the swimming pool in Torarica Resort. But this was close , at least when I was there, I couldn't use it. Maybe limited open? The location is naturally good, in the heart of the center. Oh yes, if you take a taxi from and to Torarica, it is directly more expensive. All in all, no t****e time for me. I don't even want to post a photo 🙈. See my other reviews about Paramaribo. Very nice hotel, very clean. The owners are charming and breakfasts are copies. Located near restaurants. and a few steps from the old neighborhood. The atmosphere is familiar and a bar is located in the hotel. Excellent
