We checked in late with our two young kids, and from the minute we walked through the door the alarm bells started ringing.
Let’s start by saying that whoever took the photos for the advertisement would be better described as a magician rather than a photographer. If we hadn’t arrived late we would not have stayed here at all and made alternate arrangements. My partner took the kids up to the room while I arranged the bags and pram and struggled up to the 5th (top) floor in the tiny lift (I’ve no idea how I would have got them down the tight, steep staircase in an emergency). When I arrived in the smell in the room (a mixture of smoke and damp) was overpowering. The tiles were coming off the wall in the shower, there was mould around the windows, the room hadn’t been cleaned properly (sticky glass marks on bedside table) and the temperature was either freezing cold or hotter than hell.
I explained to the night manager that this wasn’t acceptable and was unsafe for children and I’d like to change our stay to one night only he said there was nothing he could do until the morning when the manager arrived. It was late and at this hour we had no option but to sleep here (I never slept a wink on a disgusting sofa bed which was meant for me children, absolutely no chance) that night.
As it turns out the day manager spun us the same story, that this would have to be referred to another manager who wasn’t available.
In short, don’t stay here. We left ASAP!
