Niraamaya Retreats Samroha is perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the Athirappilly Falls and the Chalakkudy River, delivering one of the most spectacular natural settings I've experienced at a resort in this part of the world. This wanna-be boutique property strikes a good balance between contemporary elegance and Kerala's traditional charm. The resort truly embodies its Sanskrit name "Samroha" – meaning bursting forth and coming into view – as the waterfalls reveal themselves magnificently from multiple vantage points throughout the property. LOCATION: The resort sits very close to Athirappilly Falls (about 15 minutes on foot) and is easily accessible from Cochin International Airport, which is about less than an hour away. The location is unbeatable for nature lovers – you're essentially staying in the heart of Kerala's most pristine eco-tourism destination with rugged hills, dense forests, and the thunderous falls as your backdrop. The Chalakkudy River flows right below the property, and from the restaurant's alfresco balcony on the third floor, you get uninterrupted views of the cascading waters. The surrounding area offers excellent trekking opportunities to Vazhachal Falls and Charpa Falls, plus village tours and tribal settlement visits. DINE + DRINK: The main restaurant occupies the third floor and features floor-to-ceiling wooden frames that perfectly frame the riverfront views. The alfresco balcony is particularly stunning during meals. The buffet spreads are generous and diverse, offering everything from authentic Kerala cuisine to international options, with excellent vegetarian, halal, and gluten-free choices. The continental breakfast includes quality items like chicken sausages, perfectly cooked eggs, potato wedges, and fresh fruit platters, complemented by good coffee (though the espresso is notably strong!). ROOM: We stayed in Room 2002 , so this review is based on that; SIZE: Spacious enough for 2 adults and simple baggage; VIEW:Lovely view of the mountains, the dense jungle, and the waterfalls at a distance and the river flowing below ; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part of putting us to sleep; BATHROOM:Good sized bathroom with a Stand-in shower; TOILETRIES: Good quality toiletries FACILITIES: Ok quality Gym with a very limited range of weights, workout stations, and Cardio machines. The swimming pool was not functional. Something that was a disappointment ginve a property of this start rating SERVICE: Friendly staff that cared for all our needs with a smile and made us feel at home and well taken care of. Special Shout-out to Mr.DEVANSH - the general manager who was on the floor 24x7 ensuring great hospitality ahnd service.
