Hanover Marriott

We're Bonvoy members because we like Westins. According to the Marriott corporate website, the Marriott brand and the Westin brand are both considered “Premium” Bonvoy properties. As such we expected a similar level of service to what we've received staying in Westin properties. Unfortunately this particular Marriott is a stunning disappointment. We arrived at the property for check-in to find there was no valet parking. They charge a parking fee of $15.00US, which they charged by default, even if you have no vehicle there. Several of our friends who arrived by taxi had been charged. They had to call back and get the charges removed. In addition, there was no staff at all to assist with baggage. Everyone had to haul their own. There was an exciting scavenger hunt to find a luggage cart whenever you needed one. The rooms are clean and present well. I appreciate that there are walk-in showers instead of tubs. I question the choice to use a vinyl composite flooring instead of carpet. The hard surface makes the room noisy, the floor cold, and has a very “Super 8” feel to it. As with the Westins, the beds are quite comfortable. We originally intended a 7 night stay, but due to reservation issues we opted to cut back to 5 nights. I've called the property a dozen times over the course of 14 months to reserve a hospitality suite for the week. The sales manager here is either incompetent, lazy or both. In that 14 month window she was unable to fulfill even this exceedingly basic request. She ignored every single one of Marriott's 5 core values and ruined a trip we've been planning for three years. Our first experience with the on-site dining elicited a mixed reaction. The food was better than expected, and our server was extremely accommodating. We had a table that ended up being 12 people (started with 6, expanded as additional people arrived). Some left and others took their spots. All told we were there about 2-1/2 hours. The hostess was quite cranky, apparently it was inconvenient for her that we were still buying drinks and chatting. She pointed out a few times that we couldn't stay long, as she had another group coming in. That struck us as odd, as she'd told us earlier that they don't take reservations. Even our server was getting annoyed with her, probably afraid she was ruining his tips. We found that breakfast service is short, closing by 9:30, and the staff member in charge of the lobby coffee was quite anxious to shut off the coffee machine Friday morning, even though several of us were gathered in the lobby chatting and...wait for it...drinking coffee. Apparently she was afraid the guests would avail themselves of...guest amenities? There was no coffee service at all on Saturday or Sunday mornings. Hotel tip: Anyone staying at a property Marriott considers “Premium” shouldn't have to order coffee delivered. The convention space is nice. It's smaller than most I've been to, and really too small for the convention we were attending. That

I've been spoiled staying in brand new Marriott properties in the past year on LI and upstate NY, so I was immediately disappointed when we turned into this dark and creepy Marriott. Our room had a musty odor (all of our clothes in the laundry at home right now, definitely don't want to smell like that) but it was fairly clean. The bathroom fixtures, sinks and appliances are showing signs of wear (brown ring around the drain, toilet didn't flush well, microwave button panel cracked, fridge doesn't fit in the cabinet and wasn't quite cold enough but VERY cold in the far right corner, the sliding door on balcony didn't lock very well). The pool is tiny and hot tub inconsistently heated. The shower outside of the pool (which is a nice thing to have) was REALLY aged and when i turned on the light, a medium sized city centipede (the last time I saw this type of centipede was when I lived in Manhattan) scurried out of the shower. This was around 8 am so they say if you see these things in the day, it's quite an infestation. Thank god our room wasn't on the ground floor AND I saw it about an hour before we checked out. I have issues sleeping in hotel beds as it is. These beds weren't too bad. I just feel like the whole hotel needs a gut renovation. Sadly, I don't think there's a newer, better option in Parsippany, though! The rooms WERE quiet, and the staff pretty nice. There were lots of towels at the pool. There's a reverse osmosis water dispenser in the fitness room so you can refill your bottle.

How it has more than a one star rating is beyond me. Property not maintained at all, grass not cut, garbage strewn all over property. There are several large trash cans outside building along walkway (can't imagine why so many are needed) and all were OVERFLOWING with trash, even extra bags of garbage outside the bins including multiple flattened boxes from cases of beer and take out food containers. I can't imagine the type of varmints attracted to the trash. I suspect this facility has turned partially into a residential hotel but don't know for sure. I did not even feel safe leaving my car there overnight. My supposedly non-smoking room reeked of cigarette smoke. Enough said. I checked in and then checked right out. I was at least afforded a full refund.

I stayed in room 248, the service was excellent and I enjoyed my stay thoroughly. I needed to extend my stay due to unforeseen events and they accommodated me without fuss. The room was clean and I had privacy. Thanks Danny and team!

This hotel is about definition average as you get. The room was outdated, but clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was nice enough throughout the stay to not have any complaints about. The breakfast definitely left something to be desired but hey it's complimentary so what are you going to do. In the end was it a great hotel? No. Was there anything severely wrong with the room that justified a complaint? Also no. Would I stay here again? Possibly....?

I would like too say that the room was so great. After visiting the pool which had lots of pool noodles for the kids we went to the restaurant. Staff was very attentive amd accommodating. Bek was lovely made us feel comfortable. We were enjoying our time as Dan sevevered us drinks however there was a particularly rude customer present. Once bought to their attention the addressed it and it was rectified. The lads ( Bek and dan) are the only reason we stayed to enjoy anther cocktail.

First time at this property or any Sonesta brand hotel. Nice room and good location. Power outage during an excessive heat warning in NJ did not help when the power was out from 6:30pm ish until at least 3:30am. We are seniors on the third floor. No air conditioning, lights, TV, use of in room kitchen etc. Basically, a dark room with for walls. Staff provided no helpful information or estimated repair times, which EVERY utility company I have had, where I lived always did. No backup generators to power the rooms. No designated place to charge your phones. NOTHING! and, no adjustment on our bill during checkout or even an apology. Second night of our stay, power went out within 30 seconds of us getting off the elevator and walking a short distance to our room, nearly trapping us. Opened a case with the care team and have heard nothing in over two weeks. Very disappointed with Sonesta :(

Here's the list: WiFi didn't work in our room - during the entire stay. We mentioned it to the guy at the front desk and were told ”sometimes we have issues in the rooms. Try it again when you get upstairs.” No solution, no asking if we wanted a different room. We went out and when we returned, there was a different guy at the desk. Mentioned it to him, and he asked if we had tried using the directions that were TAPED TO THE FRONT DESK. No, we had tried using the directions given to us with the keys when we checked in. They were DIFFERENT. We were able to get on WiFi in the lobby but then it still didn't work in our room with either login. There was only 1 elevator working the entire time - which had been the case when we stayed there SEVEN MONTHS ago. The pool was ”being repaired” so it wasn't open. It looked fine, but unavailable to guests. The next morning the TV in our room wasn't working and it also wasn't working in the main room where breakfast is eaten. And finally, the shower head had water coming out of only 1 of 3 possible places. Thankfully we were both tall enough to reach the shower head to adjust it a bit. Not sure what you do if you're 5'2.
