"It was relatively clean. Other guests' belongings in the room were a bit messy, but there were lockable lockers. The front desk staff were also very welcoming, and there's free WiFi. It seems like you can also participate in activities at the hostel. The bathrooms and everything were quite clean. Someone snored at night, so my sleep was just okay."

"The environment is quiet and sanitary. The room space is OK. The room I stayed in has 2 toilets which are larger than the room space. It would be better to have one less toilet and one more bed."

"The overall experience was alright but not highly satisfied. I chose the hotel because we hope to stay in the Mansion with long history and heritage that hopefully make our family journey more enjoyable. Before we go, I searched for the comment on websites and found some travellers give bad comments e.g. small bathroom with mold, dusty table and floor mat, etc. Thanks for providing these honest comment so I reduce my own expectation a little bit. When we enter the hotel room, warm welcome received from hotel staff. We arrived at 15pm and thought we can have some teatime in the hotel but sadly we were told teatime must be book 24hrs in advance. They can serve us scones and tea instead. Then we went to our the double bed room 14sq.m one and it does look small, especially the toilet is small like a hostel or affordable stay instead of a hotel room charging gbp170 a night which we have expected it should be more than that. The sink was so small, have to wash hands really carefully otherwise water will be spitted everywhere. The tea corner, the alarm, the window were dusty, The cup and spoon were not clean properly. Despite all these, The bed was fine and comfy. The hotel building itself is historical and beautiful, with multiple dining rooms serving lunch, tea, dinner. Bar service serving drinks, large library, board games available for kids, very spacious greenfield and beautiful rose garden. Morning breakfast 8-10am is a self-service one and the food were hot and fresh. In overall, the beautiful nature surrounded and the historical building itself make the whole experience happy, but the hotel service and hygiene level do recommend for improvement."

Barony Castle Hotel ★★★★
"We were offered an upgrade to a suite at a much reduced rate and accepted the offer. The room was huge comfortable and well equipped for a pleasant stay. However the room and bathroom looked as if they hadn't been used for a while. In need of an update and tired it also could have been cleaner. A bit disappointing. On saying that the rest of the hotel was very clean, comfortable and welcoming. Staff were all helpful and friendly, and attentive. The food was excellent and the menus had a great selection to choose from. I would definitely visit again, but as the standard rooms are more modern and comfortable I would ask to view any room before agreeing to any update"

Melville Castle Hotel ★★★★
"Have visited Melville and had fantastic experiences ,and have recommended the castle to family and friends who also enjoyed. Visited on the 13th January met by a not very happy front of house. My 89 year old mother also stayed …my mum had something to eat , dinner came we asked for condiments waiter returned minus cutlery 10 minutes passed cutlery at last. We sat in the bar for a drink were met with sorry no brandy or Guinness not the bartender’s fault. Quests at one point were waiting at the bar whilst the bartender collected glasses elsewhere again not his fault. Morning came mums full Scottish was excellent I had smoked haddock that was inedible poached egg was fine , no side plates for toast . Check out was the worst once again an unhappy front of house . I queried the bill which was£130 more than we had purchased she asked if I was sure and could it be ordered from my mums room. She said she needed to talk with manager. Who asked her to check out all invoices after approximately 15 mins I had had enough, my partner went to deal with this issue again left waiting we decided to leave his bank card and left . On the way home we received a call the the same woman to give us the good news that we only had to pay for what we had like she did us a favour!! Most of the staff were lovely just need proper training. Would not recommend or return."
