There are many "buts" that leave one perplexed about the quality of the location and the high rating given by booking. In order: very steep and narrow stairs (no elevator), difficult with a heavy suitcase; small and blind bathroom, small and inconvenient sink (very low), no bidet (not reported on booking), shower with broken plastic glass (I now see that it had already been reported), and a lot of mold on the lower edges of the shower. Price NOT in line with the stated quality. I expected more."

"This is a wonderful hidden gem of a hotel in Pavia. The entrance from the street and stairs gives no inkling of the luxury and character of what is behind the door. A very helpful receptionist showed us our upgraded room which was large and furnished with antiques and a modern bathroom. The whole building has been carefully restored around an atrium, together with a terrace. Nothing was too much trouble to make us feel welcome. The tasty breakfast was served in a large lounge with piano and harp. The final touch was the receptionist arranging and paying for the taxi to get us back to the car park outside the TVL. All in all an unexpectedly great stay in a city not often visited."

The rooms smell strongly of cigarettes, the bathroom and facilities don't work properly, and you have to pay extra for air conditioning, which is very far away and quite expensive. The only good thing is the staff's attention; they were very friendly, even though the address on the reservation wasn't the correct one, and I waited 40 minutes for them to open the door."
