Quinta de Cabanas Douro Country House

Our group of 5 couples rented the entire Quinta for a week. We loved our stay! Regrettably it was too cool to enjoy the outdoor pool. The Quinta is located behind a locked gate in a very private area. The roads near the entrance are narrow and curvy so I wouldn’t want to attempt arrival after dark. Other than the Master Suite most of the bedrooms are very similar. We all had our pick. The Quinta was in excellent shape and clean. The owner, Rui, met us and gave us necessary instructions and an introduction to the house mechanics. Otherwise, we had the place to ourselves. We did hire a chef to prepare our dinners. We loved gathering outdoors for cocktails or in the lounge area inside. Each day we would travel individually to some of the various towns nearby. Unless you wish to enjoy a lazy day back at the Quinta I would have been satisfied with a 6 day stay. Trains were on strike during our stay so we had to drive wherever we wanted to go. Bedrooms were comfortable, the view was outstanding and the stay was a delight. Highly recommend.

Arriving unexpectedly early afternoon, we got a very warm welcome and a great support from the host who helped us to get a late afternoon lunch in a local restaurant. The quinta is located in the beautiful scenery of the Douro valley, on a quiet and sunny slope. We got a very comfortable room with a huge bath room plus separate toilet and a balcony. The overall accomodation is spacy and comfortable, with various places where you can sit and relax, either inside or outside, in the sun or in the shade. The indoor spa facilities are compact, well fitted for couples, including the necessary props. The outdoor pool gave a welldoing refreshment. The breakfast buffet is simple and good. We enjoyed one dinner, well prepared, which was served with lots of attention - we were happy to premier the vegan dish :-). The service is very hospitable and friendly. A place to recommend and to return to!
