The Old Village Hotel & Resort

The Old Village Hotel & Resort

Petra|0.92km from city centre
This place is sort of a boutique hotel opened by locals and not one of the big chain hotels and it’s location (point 1) is slightly further away from the city centre and it’s located on the hillside and there is no way you can walk there, you definitely need a car to reach this place from Petra Visitor Center ( hence please take a cab ) but it was fine for us as we drove. The price we paid was somewhat expensive ( due to its peak season) but all the hotels nearby were on the high side. Rooms are exceptionally clean and it even smell of freshly laundered sheets, good ventilation and breakfast was decent. We had dinner here as well 20JOD for the buffet dinner per person and it was great on the weekend nights but on a weekday nights the menu offering is much limited. Staff are generally friendly but I was turn off by a cook named Ala’a who was attending the egg station during breakfast on 29 October - not only was he slow ( compared to the cook of the previous day - leading to long wait at the station despite less than 30 people in the breakfast place), he was also rude to guests who didn’t really speak English and even told them when they didn’t clearly place their orders- I was observing and it was really bad taste as he scowl at them and this is only coming from a cook at the eggs station - you need mind your customer service ettiquete especially to foreign guests who makes up most of your revenue. The least you can do is smile and not make your guests feel like feel bad about their language when they are ordering their eggs.

Tetra Tree Hotel

Tetra Tree Hotel

Petra|0.36km from city centre
We just arrived in Amman from Petra where we stayed for 3 nights / 4 days at Tetra Tree hotel. When we first arrived, the management did everything they could to have our room ready even though we reached the hotel at around 11ish... The room was spacious and with very good A/C, furniture and closet. However, everything else was a disappointment. First of all, the shower door did not close properly therefore there was always leakage. Also, the handle from the inside of of the shower door was missing. The towels had spots on them and the dinner was awful to say the least. After the first night that i had dinner there i fell ill and have not recovered yet even though i stopped eating anything from the hotel menu. The desert they offered was of very bad quality and the second night it smelt bad... They offered the same dish on monday night as part of the buffet (which only has 2 options of food)and the next evening they offered the same dish as set menu. The humous and olives were nice but the vegetables on the salad were cut much earlier and were dry. The first dip at the pool was disappointing as i found a dead cockroach inside the pool which i removed. The surrounding of the pool was of very bad hygiene. The water was colder than usual but this is how i liked it anyway. Now for the employees... They were all very kind, especially with our two little children. To conclude, i would not recommend this hotel to anyone i am afraid. Our first visit to Petra was in Movenpick hotel but this time our budget did not allow us to stay there as they did not offer a family room which was offered in Tetra Tree Hotel hence the choice of this hotel. However, it definitely is not a 3 or 4 star hotel..!!! I do hope the management takes note of the ratings here and make some essential changes for the hotel to survive...
Petra Palace Hotel

Petra Palace Hotel

Petra|0.88km from city centre
In a country that prides itself on its hospitality, Petra Palace treated me like a stupid tourist who is only good enough for her wallet. I am deeply offended. My standard for mid-range hotels is not high. I'm not surprised when the towel rack is loose, the shower only has one temperature or the breakfast is not what you are used to at home. But I do expect to be treated fairly. That didn't happen here. I traveled in a group and stayed at this hotel for three nights. When the bus, with all the suitcases already in it, was ready and we were about to leave, the manager informed the tour guide that we had soiled a towel so badly that it had to be reimbursed. Nonsense! At home, I could have cleaned this towel in my washing machine easily. Besides, who says this towel came from my hotel room? And finally, above all: if you think that I have behaved so filthy as a hotel guest, please report this to me immediately and directly. In addition, this hotel had no right to speak in terms of quality. A selection: the toilet seat was loose and the toilet only flushed moderately. The futuristic shower cabin was largely calcified, so that only 1 of the functions worked properly. The electrical connection of this cabin looked improper and risky. The sound volume of the air conditioning was particularly high. The stopper of the bidet could not be operated and was, when finally closed, leaking. The sink tap was completely loose. In all other hotels drinking water was available for guests, but not here. Several guests fell through the loungers by the pool because they broke. Towels were missing at the pool. The accusation against us was completely unjustified. Unfortunately, my husband paid the 10 dinars demanded (expensive second-hand towel!) to avoid the argument because we were about to leave. The feeling I get from it all, is that this hotel has found a new revenue model. Bah.

Wassaif Camp

Wassaif Camp

Petra|0.07km from city centre
The facilities were very limited for a camp welcoming tourists and with quite a high price. We didn't expect this when we saw the rather positive reviews and ratings... - When we arrived at check-in time, it seemed that our rooms were not ready and when we entered them, they were not clean at all (traces of excrement in the toilets, the shower drain was blocked, etc.). - Then it was mentioned to us only at the arrival that the electricity is available only from 6 am to 8 am and then from 6pm to 12am. We can wash only in the evening and we have to ask (sometimes several times) to have hot water. This information should be absolutely present in the description of the hotel or at the time of the reservation. Even if this is due to the fact that the camp is far away, it is still the least an hotel can offer for the price paid. - Although the camp is on a hill and it was December, it was also much too cold and the rooms were not well insulated for that. We could see and feel the wind passing through the fabric of the walls. We had made camps in the desert before, where the temperature were the same, and that was still well insulated from the cold so that proves that the rooms in this camp are not at all adapted for that. Moreover, there is no point in taking the AC to warm up (a paying service) since the electricity cuts off at midnight and the cold comes in from everywhere in the room. - The meal is not excellent and expensive (15 JOD). - The road to arrive at the camp is rocky. It would have been nice to have the information to know if our car could access it or not.

Petra Moon Hotel
4.6/542 Reviews
This is a luxury hotel located barely 5 minutes' walking distance from the Visitor Centre of Petra. The rooms are very well appointed and superbly maintained. We had breakfast here on 2 days and the spread was awesome. The staff were also friendly and accommodating. One of them even went out of his way to help us with the purchase of olive oil as we wanted to be sure about the authenticity and quality of the product. The shopping complexes are all within walking distance of this property. I would strongly recommend the Petra Moon for a comfortable and enjoyable stay while in Petra.
Petra Guests Hotel

Our stay in this totally comfortable hotel was absolutely amazing. The building is nicely reconstructed, rooms are new, super clean and elegant as is the lobby area. There is a wonderful view from the dining room and from the terrace towards Petra. The food was very tasty and abundant. I want to underline the unique view, from which you can see all the city of Wadi Musa on the background of Petra's mountains - the sunsets are unforgettable! Maybe all these things you can find also in other hotels in the city (expect the view of course), but the greatest advantage of this place is its owner Mohammad, his personality will add to your stay a super friendly dimension, which makes you feel be accepted not as a tourist or traveler, but as a favorite member of the family. We were never treated with such hospitality, kindness and respect. Mohammed and his hotel will stay in our memory until we have the opportunity to come back again. Tereza & Dominik
Petra Jewel Luxury Hotel

Surprising hotel. Deceptive ”luxury” in the hotel name. Located on the hill, above main entrance to Petra. Only few minutes walk down, a bit more when coming back. The room itself was spacious with comfortable bed. Aircondition was an big advantage. Bathroom leaves much to be desired. Bathtube with shower, but not always warm water was available. Toilet with self-closing flap all, also when sitting. No place to store toiletry bag. But some toiletries were available, what is an advantage. Bathroom was big, but needs renovation. Unfortunately the walls are not soundproof, whether inside or outside. No elevator available, what can be an disadvantage when travelling with big, heavy suitcase. As for the maney it costed, it was not really worth. Could be improved. Or better - price should be adapted to the conditions offered.
Petra Sky Hotel

My third time visit to this hotel and it just gets better. Staff excellent and friendly including the new manager Talal Homos and his wife. They now have restaurant on fourth floor with breakfast buffet and local food for dinner. There are beautiful views of the town and mountains from the restaurant and my room on the third floor. All major work is completed. Once again thank you all from owner to housekeeper. It was like home from home.
Grand Mercure Petra
4.1/568 Reviews
The hotel sit atop a hill overlooking the desert hills - a wonderful view, about a 10-min. drive from the Petra visitor center. All the staff we met, from the security guards, to the bellman, the front desk, the restaurant - were just SUPERB. All of them. The lobby is inviting and warm, the restaurant is spacious and with lots of sunshine. Dinner buffet had a very nice variety and decent quality, yet overpriced. Breakfast had a wonderful variety with good quality. The room was very clean, and looked like it was built last year - very well maintained. Although the building looks very new, overall, the hotel is overpriced a bit. Overall, an excellent choice for Petra.

Basic but had everything you might want and it was clean. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Fairly central for shops and restaurants but a trek from the Petra entrance. Rooms were clean and had all the facilities
