We’ve just arrived home after a couple of nights spent at Smeaton Farm - and what a fabulous stay we had. We really can’t fault this B & B, Sarah and Richard really looked after us so well. Our room, Weeping Ash, was lovely, so clean and well organised, with the most amazing duel aspect windows looking over the gorgeous garden with the most incredible view over the valley. We were guests at a wedding nearby, but we were still able to enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful farmhouse. The breakfasts were first class with so much choice, and so tasty. I love getting up at sunrise, so found myself sitting on the bench at the bottom of the garden looking at the view with 2 donkeys, a pony and I believe some alpacas, I was also joined by one of the very friendly cats. A truly wonderful start to my day Thank you both, what you offer is so precious.

What a beautiful place to stay. The hosts were friendly and helped with our luggage. The facilities were good. The breakfast was excellent. There was a lovely sitting room available. Great variety of paintings and prints on all the walls. The decor was just how you imagine a farmhouse to be….. Quintessentially English!! The gardens were delightful and the whole experience a perfect ending to me showing my disabled friend who was visiting from Australia the delights of Cornwall. Thank you. I will definitely recommend you. Regards Jennie. Thank you.

After a long drive we rocked up to Smeaton farm and we where delighted to see such a beautiful big house. The stunning views and all the wildlife that's around. We where greeted at the door with a warm welcome and shown to our room. Our Room was warm and a very good size. But the bed oh my I didn't want to get back up off of it as it was so comfortable. We had the privilege to speak to the owners and they are a really lovely couple. We only stayed 2 nights but I really wish we had stayed longer. The building itself is lovely and it just feels like a home. And it's that feeling of home that will bring us back and also the food especially the hogs pudding. The Cornish have kept the hogs pudding a secret for many a year but now it's out there make sure to try it. Overall we had a fantastic stay and we will definitely be back. But until then thank you very much for having us.

Back in the area visiting relatives, so we decided to stick with what we know and opted for Smeaton Farm having last stayed there back in 2018. We were welcomed by Sarah and shown to our room Weeping Ash which had great views over the garden and the grounds. They have some donkeys and goats in the far part of the garden which we enjoyed going to meet, and a nice table and chair set on the grass which we were offered to use. Lovely comfortable bedroom and slept like a log. Breakfast choices were made the night before, opted for the full English based on our previous experience, and it did not disappoint! Richard made the time to come and chat with us over breakfast which we appreciated. The lanes around the B&B were typical countryside roads, to be expected if staying on a farm though ! Perfectly passable day and night. We will be back! Thanks very much.

THE GOOD The farm itself, was in a stunning location, our Euclayptus room was extremely clean and kept immaculate, and was replenished everyday with clean towels etc. And the morning breakfast, was one of the best we ever had. We had also preordered dinner for 3 nights, a week before arrival date as requested, and to make sure my wife’s needs ie good wholesome food, was available, due to her diabetes, hence the reason we booked, as they also advertise the fact that they have an AA Dinner Award 2023. 9photo enclosed) THE BAD Although it is not there fault, they do not pre warn you, that the roads, leading to their Farm, are extremely narrow, with brambles and thick foliage We had only just purchased, a brand new Audi Q7 SUV, which is a large , and particularly high value vehicle, and no place to manoeuvre , as car is wider than the lanes, and when you are faced with a car the opposite direction ( enclosed),and which now has scratches to either side, and we now have to pay out a detailer to remove these. So making night driving along these lanes, impossible for us. Warning: please do not travel here in the dark, as you will not find your way to the farm. THE UGLY As we said, we had pre booked 3 nights dinner well in advance. For the first night, we were told that Pork would be served, as another couple had ordered it. We went along with it and were agreeable, as we are very easy going and we were fine with that. The second night, we were informed in advance, that there would be no dinner served, as they were going to a Farm Show, and we were directed to a Pub up the road. And once again, we were agreeable, as we thought it was just for that one night, and we would be able to have a meal of our choice from their evening menu our third night. But once again, we were informed that there would be no dinner served, leaving us in a position, to try and find a healthy meal, somewhere that afternoon, as we knew due to the lanes, we would not be able to venture out at night. By now we were in a predicament, as we had to live on the snacks we usually carry with us, in case of an emergency re wife, leaving us feeling vulnerable. We were only told about the NO SHOW dinner, once we had paid, so had no choice, but to stick it out, as we would not have stayed at this venue, if we knew, we would have been let down this way. We also informed them by email , whilst we were there, that the pubs around the area were not suitable for my wife’s dietary needs, and that we were struggling to find somewhere to eat, giving them the opportunity to redeem themselves. But nothing phased them, instead they directed us to Michelin Fine Dining around the area, which we found very condensing, as all we were looking for was an healthy option. They did not even offer to make us a sandwich, which we would have paid for, as we don’t expect anything for free, or use of their kitchen facilities, or fridge to store food, we may have brought from outside either, and which would have kep

An outstanding B+B, the location maybe a bit off the beaten track for some but because of this it is so peaceful, surrounded by countryside with excellent grounds to relax in; and actually closer to main roads than you would think. Rooms are first rate and the breakfasts are excellent, highly recommended for anyone looking to stay in the area.

Very last minute booking and very friendly and accommodating. Stunning room with huge bathroom, everything you need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was amazing, best ever. Great quiet location but close enough for us to enjoy an evening in Plymouth. Thank you, highly recommend and will return hopefully for longer next time.
