Fantastic Stay in the Heart of the Old Town Pingyao Garden Inn is a charming and authentic homestay, perfectly located in the middle of the old town. Despite being so central, it’s surprisingly quiet, offering a peaceful retreat after exploring the ancient streets. The hosts are incredibly friendly and even offer discounts at local restaurants, adding extra value to the stay. A special mention goes to their adorable poodle-cross dog, Honey, who adds a warm and homely touch to the place. The rooms maintain a traditional style with old-style beds and pillows filled with wheat—something to keep in mind as the beds are on the firmer side. However, the modern ensuite, heating, electric blankets, and provided toiletries ensure a comfortable stay. Overall, Pingyao Garden Inn is a great value-for-money option for those looking to experience a classic, cozy stay with welcoming hosts in an unbeatable location. Would definitely recommend!

First of all: the owners get a 10/10. they are an old couple, super sweet and try to give you the best stay as possible. They cannot speak English which led to a laughing moment as they where translating Chinese into Spanish which we cannot speak. A few things to consider: the rooms are small which is usually super okay for us. We don’t need much room and price as well as location was great. It still became a bit of an issue in our situation as it was pouring rain and the rooms is directly entered from the outside area. There is no space to leave wet shoes outside or much space to hang wet clothes. So this might not be an issue if you visit in summer. It really depends an is an subjective view. The reason for a lower rating of cleanliness is, that the first room, they gave us, was spelling so bad that the first thought was „good that we only stay for one night“ and the second „how will we be able to get this out of our clothes“. We are backpackers… After we when through the old town, we came back and the lady must have noticed our discomfort and asked if we would like to change the room. We did so as the second room was still smelling a bid old but totally acceptable for the ancient building. The room was much better even though there was still dust on some of the desks so we wipes it first before putting stuff on it. Again, 10/10 for the kind and friendly hosts. On a sunny day, the experience might have been positive on all the topics but we have to be honest…

A cool historic place to stay in this historic city, with really helpful staff — they will go above and beyond to make your stay a success! The only downside is the room smells strongly of mothballs, and it was a week or two before it finally came out of my clothes.
