Elsewhere hotel（Inn West gate）

We enjoyed staying in this rustic old courtyard house. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect as it is next to the west city wall and gate, a more quiet part of the ancient city while still walkable to the main latern streets and attractions. Hiring an electric bike from the hotel was one of the highlighs of our stay, we were able to explore the far east, south and north part of the city in the summer breeze. The room was very comfortable, especially sleeping on the kang bed. The only cons was our room was next to the public toilet, hence less privacy and at times we could smell the toilet when the toilet door was left opened. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this unique place and will return to stay in future but in another room. The English breakfast was a wonderful addition to our stay.

We had the best time in Elsewhere Hotel. The room was clean and well maintained. The courtyard was so relaxing. Funny’s hospitality was exceptional. We did the mooncake experience with her and her mum and we had so much fun! Funny also gave us lots of useful tips and what to visit. We will recommend this place to everyone. We are so happy with the treatment we received.

Very nice and quaint inn with a lot of Chinese characteristics. The courtyard is very peaceful and invites a moment of contemplation and stillness. While this is a 400 year old building that was restored, the inn had done a very nice job with it. There was a good balance of traditional vibe with modern facilities. Air Con was working well and the toilet was modern. I felt like I was staying a museum. Staff were very responsive on WeChat and were ready to advise if you need any help in navigation or recommendations for activities. I loved the local breakfast which gave a glimpse of how the locals ate day to day. You can also opt for Western breakfast. This was one of my best stays compared to the other hotels I have stayed in China. The building, staff and the cat made a difference. Thank you for a lovely time in Pingyao.

We had a lovely stay at Elsewhere westgate, conveniently located in quiet corner close to the old town entrance. Helen and the team provided great service with olenty of information and tips. The premises are beautiful and cozy. The breakfast is optional and you can choose between Chinese and Western options. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to any international traveller (staff speaks English and goes above and beyond to make you feel at home). Ps. Pingyao is a hidden gem. If you travel between Beijing and Xian make sure to stop here!

It was just an absolutely amazing experience from the very beginning and until the very end of our stay, not even just in the hotel, but in the city of Pingyao itself in general. Me and my friend are traveling very light and without guides, and in Pingyao we had only one day: from evening to evening of the next day. Huge huge thanks to everyone who made this day unforgettable and ultimately comfortable for tired us: Alice, Helen, Fenny, Hana, and all others who was there for us. The hotel service is simply excellent: as soon as they learned about our late arrival, they immediately offered to meet us at the railway station, which was absolutely the sweetest thing. They brought us to the city gate, met us there, and walked us to the hotel. There they gave us a map, on which they explained in great detail where everything is, what is worth paying attention to, how it is better to build the route, and what opening hours different sights have. They also helped us organize a private transfer to Shaolin Temple the next morning. It was just perfect: we got there in 15 minutes instead of one and a half hours by foot, and after our walk in the temple they met us and brought us back. Also on the evening of arrival they helped us immediately buy the ticket for visiting all attractions of the city, valid for three days. And also they advised us where to eat, and gave us a hotel discount in both places. We did not regret it even once, the food was amazingly delicious in both places! The hotel itself is just wonderful: it really looks exactly like in the photos. You want to photograph every corner and record how the sparrows are chirping on the roof, and how two wonderful cats are meowing. The room also matches and even exceeds expectations. A huge kang bed, very comfortable. Excellent shower with everything needed. Breakfast is included in the stay: the traditional Chinese one was very tasty! Unfortunately, we did not manage to eat the egg, it was freshly boiled and still hot, but we were hurrying to Shaolin Temple by opening time. Also the hotel has a laundry service, and special thanks for that too! Washing and drying were very fast, and we got our nicely smelling clothes back already after four hours, which was critical for us, because we were leaving the same day. We felt like we really were honored guests, and we really appreciated it, even if only for one day.

We had the best stay at Elswhwere Hotel West Gate. The building is restored it the nicest way really gives you the feeling of timetravel. The people working in the hotel, were carrying and welcoming. They explained us how to navigate the city, helped us buy tickets for the city sights, recommend restaurants and we even got a room upgrade and lovely gifts to take home and remember our time in Pingyao. The bed was so comfortable and we had the best sleep. Can recommend this hotel full heartedly. Would definitely come back! Thank you Helen and Fenny for making our stay so memorable.

The style of the building. Nicely modernised. Breakfast was really simple. A bit difficult tp find our way back at night.
