We absolutely loved this hotel! After 3 days in Funchal, we moved here to do day trips on the other side of the island. The area is quiet, the staff super nice, great pool to spend couple of hours before dinner ( which I highly recommend to have on the patio of the hotel restaurant, watching the sunset over the ocean with amazing food).

The service is good, view amazing and meat very good. But everything else is very questionable. It's NOT A CHEAP place and so-called GRILLED fish is not grilled but baked in the oven with half a bottle of olive oil and a lot of salt. Not the kind of grilled fish that you would usually call in English GRILLED fish (which means GRILLED ON BBQ). The ROASTED vegetables are like steamed vegetables without even a sprinkle of any spice and not roasted at all. Just bland vegetables. So there is a lot of misunderstanding in the menu. I can honestly do better at home....😢

We had dinner at the restaurant on two occasions as we were staying closeby. Very pleasant service, beautiful view from the terrace and the meal was delicious. The desserts are a work of art. They have all kinds of seafood, grilled meats, delicious baked sweet potato side dish.

We had an amazing stay at the hotel! Our room was always spotless, and the entire property was incredibly clean. You could even smell the bleach and see the cleaning team working every day. The swimming pool area was lovely, well-maintained, and sunny all afternoon, perfect for relaxing. The restaurant was fantastic, with good food, and the waiter (wish I remembered his name) was super nice and knowledgeable. Breakfast was simple but always fresh and refilled quickly. Our room was spacious, and the bed was really comfortable. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend this hotel

Friends recommended this hotel restaurant to us for a Sunday lunch. It is a hidden gem. Magnificent views from the hotel restaurant and terrace. The waiting staff were excellent and recommended a new pineapple gin from the Azores. The food quality was first rate and everything was beautifully presented and served. We will certainly return again during our stay on this beautiful island.

We were there for dinner 3 times during our stay on Madeira island. Perfect location for sunset viewing. Very clean and modern location but with history - the building was an old sugar cane mill. Very good food and reasonable prices - maybe over average for typical Madeira restaurants, but worth it. The whole package was always worth spending the evening there.

We are the meat lovers. I always really enjoy a well aged beef cut from the grill. Engenho Velho was the first place in Madeira where we tried espetada - beef skewers. Unfortunately it was so bad I even struggle to describe it. Tough, chewy, almost inedible are the only words that come to my mind. When back from the restaurant, I did some online research and found out that espetada should be made from beef tenderloin. The cuts on skewer at Engenho Velho that we got were closer to some cheap beef meant for braising not for grilling. I really don't know if it was some kind of cheating or is it their real everyday practice.

Este alojamento vale sobretudo pela localização. Fantástico para o por de sol, com uma piscina fantástica sobre o mar. O quarto era bom, espaçoso, com uma boa cama. O pequeno almoço foi uma desilusão. Sumo artificial, fruta de conserva (na Madeira, fiquei chocado), compotas de conserva, opções doces miseráveis
