Top rated hotels in Portsmouth

Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth - North
4.1/5123 Reviews
I read a few negative reviews before arriving here and I was a bit worried about how my stay would go. I have to say all of theses reviews were proved wrong. We had a really good stay. Staff were friendly and helpful and the reception staff especially were constantly working on reception, in the bar and helping clear after meals and breakfast. Our room was very clean and convenient. The only issue is the separate charge for parking. Having to pay on a machine at a hotel is unusual and unnecessary.
Holiday Inn Express Portsmouth - Gunwharf Quays
4.3/5130 Reviews
Amazing position, great location. Maria, on reception was a 'star' -what a welcome. Friendly and professional. Treat two pots of ice cream, added bonus. A room off the dining area, first on the right, no miles of walking, excellent. Clean and comfortable, as the bathroom, lovely and clean. Breakfast the usual, seriously manic. Extremely busy, buffet, just warm food, lots of choice, wonderful hash browns. No prisoners taken, still enjoyable. Tables cleaned in between guests, well done. Only down side 'He' has now become a registered disabled, no parking available in the small parking area located on site which was annoying. We parked in the underground Gunwharf car park, the charge was reimbursed which was fine, however, it was an issue for him getting to and from the hotel. Did not spoil our stay, loved it, hopefully will stay again.
Ibis Budget Portsmouth
3.8/5113 Reviews
The Ibis Budget Hotel, is a very basic hotel as implies in the name. It's convenient for the accessing the Ferry, town centre by bus. Fratton station with trains to London is less than a10min walk. There is no fancy trimmings here. The room was small, but clean. Offered a continental breakfast. Located in walking distance from supermarket and fast food restaurants. The Bus 1 goes from Gunwharf Ferry to the Southsea Pier; but be careful. This bus changes to a Bus 3 at the Southsea Pier. It carries on another hour plus towards Southampton etc. All in all, the hotel offered my family a good rest after a long day out. The bottom double bed was very comfortable. Perhaps the bunk bit is not best suited to a teenager.
Seacrest Hotel
4.3/541 Reviews
Had a lovely clean room overlooking the sea. A good location, a few minutes walk from Southsea pier, and a 30 min walk to Gunwharf Quay. Easy parking outside of hotel and only £2 per day if you grab a permit from reception when checking in. The breakfast was nice, and friendly staff all round. Nice small cosy bar, the only downside was it was rather too expensive. Would have given an overall rating of 4.5 due to bar cost but thought a 5 was fairer than a 4.
Portsmouth Marriott Hotel
4.1/5119 Reviews
What a horrible person on reception when we arrived late off the ferry. Rude, disinterested, disobliging, inconsiderate. Treated us like a really stupid inconvenience. In spite of the fact that this was an advance booking, so our arrival should not have been a surprise nuisance for her. This, overlaid by the hotel's very complicated financial systems which involve taking a LOT of money from your credit card that you do not owe and only paying it back when you leave, will make sure that we will never never set foot in a Marriott again. AND, dear readers, if you don't want to join their Bonvoy (which I assume is a marketing abbreviation for Bon Voyage aka happy times ha ha) you have to pay £12 to get WiFi. Actually a lot of the staff were really sweet, what a shame they have to share a review with that awful receptionist. This comment will make no difference whatsoever to anything, but it makes me feel better and I hope it will encourage people to look elsewhere. There are alternatives ..............
Ibis Portsmouth Centre
3.9/5108 Reviews
This is hotel is in a great location. Its close to city centre shops. 5 minute walk away. 1o to 15 minutes walk away from Gunwharf Quays. Safe car park.£10 a day. Good breakfast, lots of choice. Lovely bar area The rooms are really clean. And everything you need. The only problem is they're rather on the small side. But other than that a great stay
