Farfalla Blu

Farfalla Blu is the perfect location to explore southeastern Sicily. Located just outside Pozzallo, it’s a peaceful retreat with wonderful views of the sea from the top deck, a beautiful pool, and gardens to sit and relax. Yvonne and Fabrizio are the best hosts - they provide lots of local information for ideas of places to visit, and will share stories and legends, but only if you are interested. There’s a guest living room and terrace where you can study your travel guide or have a nap. As a woman traveling alone, I felt like I was visiting a friend. The B&B is fully restored (as in, down to the ground) with incredible attention to detail - the tiles, the colors, the conveniences are wonderful. And, they make their own olive oil and have many fruit and nut trees. There are so many amazing places to visit within just 30 minutes drive (a car is essential!) - Modica, Noto, Marzamemi, Ragusa, just to name a few - 5 days wasn’t nearly enough!

Had a lovely stay at this brand new Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are super clean and comfortable. The wonderful breakfast, served on a quiet terrace overlooking the sea and surrounding hills, includes fresh fruit from the garden, baked goods and unbelievable ricotta-filled brioches. (For those of you on a diet, a healthier, plain brioche is also an option.) The owners, Fabrizio and Yvonne, are lovely and, although not locals, are very knowledgeable about the area. 5-star stay!!!

If you really want to feel pampered, this is the place for you. I stayed with Yvonne and Fabrizio last weekend and it was slow travel at its finest - from the antique Sicilian hand-embroidered bed linens, expertly laundered and ironed, to the fluffy towels - no small feat in Sicily where there are no dryers, to the orange blossom scent from the carefully selected Sicilian soaps, to the pool … an oasis in the heat of the Sicilian summer with charming dragon flys flitting around the gorgeous blue water. The setting is a bit like Ireland with a Sicilian accent - there are rolling hills, stone walls, a big sky, a view of the sea, which is only a 15 minute walk away, and it is quiet - birds chirping, roosters crowing, just lovely sounds of nature. You might even catch a parade of sheep going by. But for all of its tranquility, it is still close to Pozzallo and Ispica, as well as other must see places. Yvonne and Fabrizio have spent months renovating, curating, and anticipating a guest’s every need, and they have surpassed the very high standard they set for themselves. The renovation was extensive but you won’t find the ubiquitous faux grey wood floors here; instead you will find a fresh take on traditional Sicilian tiles, you won’t find a houseful of build-it-yourself furniture; instead you will find heirlooms from Fabrizio’s family that Yvonne lovingly updated, and you won’t find the latest trend that has gone viral on social media platforms; instead you will find a house with personality unique to and reflective of Yvonne and Fabrizio. A boutique bed and breakfast isn’t just about the physical structure and the setting - it’s also about the hosts and the atmosphere they create for and radiate to their guests, and Yvonne and Fabrizio have charm and warm welcomes in abundance. So if you want your trip to have real personal touch, where you actually get to meet the hosts and have a lovely chat with them, give Farfalla Blu a try. I suspect that once you go you will return again and again. I know I will.

La Farfalla Blu is truly a little piece of paradise. When we arrived we received the most amazing genuine welcome from the hosts Yvonne and Fabrizio which continued thoughout our stay. Newly restored, this beautiful villa has everything you could want and more. The decor is elegant yet with soft personal touches. Antique Italian fabrics and linens decorate the bedrooms and really add a level of chic and romance but with the highest standards of modern amenities. Your attention is always drawn to the little added details throughout this boutique B & B from the stunning wooden veranda built by Fabrizio to the art work and furniture designed by Yvonne, you can tell this home is built from love. It really is like no other. By request on arrival, Yvonne had arranged a beautiful welcome basket filled with local artisan products including a bottle of their own organic olive oil. The breakfast was served every morning on the sunny terrace, fresh fruit, yoghurts and pastries from the local bakery with sweet fresh ricotta....yum!!! And great coffee! There's lots of areas to sit and read or to enjoy the views over the gardens, olive fields and down to the sea. The garden is full of fruit and olive trees and there is a beautiful pool area with plenty of sun loungers. The beach is a 10 minute walk where there are many beach bars. Both Yvonne and Fabrizio have a wealth of knowledge of the local area and surrounding attractions like Origia, Noto and Modica _ all stunning and very easy to get to. They gave us the best restaurant recommendation's and also kindly made reservations for us. I really felt looked after and 'at home' with Yvonne and Fabri. You can tell that this new life is not a job but a joy for both of them. We definitely felt that we left saying goodbye to new friends and plan to be back soon to explore more of beautiful Sicilia. Safety: Very quiet, safe area, secure private parking, electronic safe in rooms (which we didn't use) and keys for bedrooms (again didn't use) Walkability: Miles of beaches and promenades, cliffs and coves all within walking distance. Pozallo is a beautiful coastal town Food & drinks: Everything fresh, local and as much as you want. Noteworthy details: Sustainability & Eco aware. Solar power. Air conditioning. Excellent wifi.
