We stayed at the castillo de sol for a week in July. When we arrived we had to wait a bit to get into our room (this wasn’t an issue). When we checked in we asked if we could purchase aircon (€25 for the week), the reception staff said they absolutely couldn’t do that whilst checking people in even although there were two staff on one computer checking people in together. Anyway we said okay and came back a couple of hours later as advised, when we returned we were again met with sighs and being told they were busy. When the eventually helped us, it was as simple as we handed over money and she gave us the remote- maybe took 30 seconds at max. We then went to the pool bar for something to eat and drink, drinks were okay but non branded and the food was not great. Pizza from a packet. The beds were comfy and the room was clean enough, the next issue we encountered was the shower, the shower went cold after about a minute of being used. We reported this to reception and were advised maintenance would come the following day to fix it. The maintenance man arrived and told us it was impossible to not have hot water and he left, he said the rooms work on a 30L water heater so you get 2/3 minutes of hot water then have to wait half an hour for the water to be hot again? Not ideal for a room with multiple people in it. The shower screen is also not long enough and the bathroom floor is soaking after the shower has been used. The pool opening times changed during our weeks stay. Open until 7 which was fine but didn’t open in the morning until 11 which I thought was quite late. Our room was cleaned a couple of times during our stay but we did find fake nails on our balcony that weren’t cleaned until day 5/7. We also used some dishes in the room so asked for washing up liquid as we had none, we asked 4 times but were never given any. When the room was cleaned they didn’t touch the dishes so we ended up going out and buying our own as the sink was piling up! The day before we were leaving we approached reception to ask about our transfer time- the response again a sigh and I don’t know. I had to phone love holidays to find out the time we were being picked up at as the reception staff just kept saying I don’t know. The room itself had a door (which was locked) that joined to the room next to us, you can hear everything, conversations even the toilet flushing. Not great late at night/ early in the morning. You can also hear some noise from the commercial centre in the evening. Location of the hotel is good and only a short walk to the commercial centre down the stairs but this was probably one of the only positives for us during our stay. After reading so many positive reviews before going away, we have been really disappointed.
