This is a nice little hotel in an amazing location in Old Quebec (practically next to the Fairmont, and fronting the promenade overlooking the St. Lawrence). It is by no means a luxurious or trendy hotel, but it is clean and very reasonable rates for the location, and the management was very friendly (and spoke both French and English), and they accommodated my late evening arrival with self-check in instructions. I had a regular queen room without the river view (it just looked onto the other buildings behind the hotel), which was perfectly fine, especially if you plan to be out and about most of the day. There was some light noise from the room directly overhead, but overall it was fairly quiet (it is a small hotel, so there aren't many other guests to make noise!) There was no included breakfast, but the room was stocked with free little snacks in the refrigerator (granola bar, etc.) and had a small in-room coffeemaker w/coffee and tea provided. The location was great - I walked everywhere (to/from train station, all around upper and lower old city, to/from Plains of Abraham and port area where the Strom spa is, and to/from St. Roch (a trendier neighborhood below the old city). As long as you are prepared for uphill/downhill on walks, there's no need for a car if you stay here. I would definitely stay here again if I were to revisit Quebec!

From beginning to end, this was a wonderful stay. Amelie makes the whole experience fantastic. She is the perfect host: helpful, responsive, warm, delightful. Our room on the third floor was like a one-bedroom apartment. Bright, immaculately clean, warm, with a beautiful view of the river. Location is excellent between the Chateau and the toboggan slide, a few feet away from restaurants, shops, and Christmas markets. We can't wait to return!

We arrived at Hotel Terrasse Dufferin and WOW what an awesome surprise. We were greeted by Amélie, who instantly made us feel welcome and like we were the most important guests ever! The hotel in our opinion is perfectly situated right near the Chateau with views of the river. Our room was also great we couldn’t fault it, large and very comfortable. We originally booked for 2 and stayed for 5 nights. Amélie and Simon have only taken over the hotel recently, we wish them the very best in their new venture with all the plans for improvements they have and are positive they will be extremely successful. We will be back!!

I'm dismayed to have to write such a critical review, but in all my years, I've never encountered such a disreputable management of any hotel. Simply put, the manager is a thief! I booked two rooms. Unfortunately, due to the approaching hurricane Lee, our transportation to PEI cancelled. So, I cancelled with the hotel; first, I attempted this via phone, 8 days before our arrival and had to leave a message. Then, the next day, in the morning, I followed up with an email and phone call. The manager was extremely rude and condescending. He spoke perfect English, yet upon being informed that I would be charged the first night's rent, I objected and pointed out that his website stated 48 hours is all that's required. He replied, "No, no, no, no, no...7 days." Fine, I replied: I'm giving you 7 days notice right now -- eight, if you consider yesterday's call. Suddenly, he claimed he didn't understand English and to send him an email! "I already did that," I responded, whereupon he hung up on me. Then, two days later, he charged my card $300! Then, three days after that, he charged my card another $435!! All of this days before we were even suppose to arrive. I'm handling their theft via my credit card company, mais c'est incroyable, n'est ce pas? /Users/zehutiman/Desktop/IMG_0103.jpeg

This is quaint very old hotel. It needs some sprucing up; The furniture in our room was early garage sale. The room was very clean though and comfortable. The location was the true beauty of the property. Walking to everything was so easy. We enjoyed staying there. We knew it was not going to be luxurious. I think they could visit a few resale shops and pick up some nicer furniture,

The location is very nice, right near the walking terrase (view of the golf) and close to the city center. The room was very small (and had a strange smell...of old), the bed was very-very small (could hardly fit 2 thin persons) + the matress was not comfortable at all. The room window could not be opened - for airing the room we opened a bit the windown in the bathroom. The bathroom was also small. (If you come from the train station you need to pass the whole center to get to the hotel - you can use as reference the big hotel Fairmont)

We just returned from a one week stay at this hotel. We found the staff very helpful and responsive. The room (#8) was clean with plenty of towels, soaps etc. A nice touch was a complimentary bowl of individually wrapped muffins, jams, creamers and other snacks waiting for us in the frig. The coffee maker and tea kettle were also wonderful. (Although, the 3 prong plug, and very short cord, on the tea kettle didn’t fit into the 2 prong extension cord and I had a difficult time finding a place to plug into an outlet.) There was a minor problem with the toilet which was fixed the next day. A few days in we had heavy rain all day and discovered water coming into the bathroom though the sealed door/window! I quickly stuffed towels at the base of the door and notified the front desk. We left for the day and when we returned they had attended to it…but, it is obvious that this is not a new problem and they really need to address as the wall is crumbling in that area and there is mold around the top of the door. :(. As for everything else…..most ALL of the reviewers have already stated how perfect the location is and we totally agree! My husband and I tend to stay up late and sleep in. BTW, Room 8 has two queen beds which were very comfy. A bit warm for the first few days, but, there is a ceiling fan that kept me comfortable. (This was the fall….they also have portable AC for warmer summer weather) We were concerned about outside noise, especially since we were right across from the Terrasse (huge boardwalk along the St Lawrence River and right next door to the gorgeous Frontenac!)…but, it was basically non-existent! Also, although the hotel was at full capacity while we were there, we rarely heard any other guests! The walls are certainly much better soundproofed than the modern hotels! All in all we had a fantastic time in Quebec! I will say….if you have mobility issues, this hotel and city would pose a problem for you. There are no elevators in the building, which is pretty typical for these quaint old places, and no dumbwaiter for luggage, however, the young man attending the desk when we arrived was more than happy to help carry luggage upstairs. The city itself is all steep hills and steps/stairs. It’s a nice workout and assuages our guilt over eating and drinking sumptuous meals and wines/beverages! ;-) HINT: Make sure to add a trip to isle d”Orleans to your itinerary! The day it poured rain was the day we had scheduled our visit and we still had a great time! Don’t miss visiting the Chocolatiere, the Fromagerie (cheese makers) , Ferme Plante (stock up on fresh fruit, veggies, maple syrup and other goodies!) and Cassis Monna et Filles (SOooooo good! Make sure to do a tasting!!) Every stop we were met by the most gracious and helpful staff! Everything was delicious and we bought lots of goodies for ourselves and for gifts! Every restaurant we tried in Quebec the food was excellent! The cuisine never fails to delight in this lovely city

Liked · Location is amazing, literally steps away from everything within Quebec Old City. Numerous restaurants and tourist attractions within quick walking distance. We were given room 16 on the 3rd floor which had a small balcony and faced the river; the view alone is worth staying at this hotel. As a side note, if you have mobility issues or are older you may want to ask to stay on the main floor as there are many steps/stairs. The room itself was small but adequate, I'm not sure the bed was a queen; I would say it was a double (I'm 5'8' and my feet were hanging off the end). The shower was alright, but you need to be really careful as I was almost scalded a few times from REALLY hot water. The house itself is very old, so understand there are some nuances because of this. Staff was very nice, and we never had an issue with anything. A few updates would be nice, i.e. a larger flat screen TV, and maybe add a hairdryer to the bathroom. Disliked · Bed was too small (although comfortable); it was hard to get a good night's sleep.

Great place with friendly and accommodating staff. The gentleman at the front desk had us store our bikes in a secure and convenient place. Access was never a problem. The room we had was very clean and tidy. It was small, and also a great deal. The location affords a beautiful view of the river, from a small balcony. No doubt, we'll be returning here. Thanks to the staff for a great stay!
