Riu Palace Boavista - All Inclusive

Eddison and his team Paris, Roger and the rest of the team have been amazing. My wife has alot of allergies and we've been all around the world and NEVER been to a place where my wife hasn't been ill!! Until now!! They've done a menu to suit my wife's tastes and allergies, they've catered beautifully in a separate kitchen to avoid cross contamination atall!! Amazing so so so happy and amazed by them!! Well after writing an amazing review last year - what a disappointment this year. It’s lost its edge, the clientele has gone downhill and the food was not up to the standards of last year. Dirty rubbish left in the courtyard area by the bedrooms for days - until I complained to management. Dirty toilets by pool - smelt like urine, men’s toilets backing up all over the floor 🤢 people walking in it and then getting in pool. Drinks no longer branded alcohol. Perhaps if the manager “Daniel” supported his staff instead of sitting in the restaurant being “waited” on by them (several times during our stay - bought his family in too - totally unprofessional) - the hotel would not be slipping in its standards. What a terrible shame. The food was very hit and miss. Several stations closed down during lunch service - never happened last year - such as vegetarian station, meat/grill station closed at lunch in main dining area. Cheese station closed. It was disappointing. One night the food exceeded my expectations and then that night they gave out questionnaires on how good was the food 😂. The speciality restaurants are awful too. Booked two and both a disappointment. We had Cockroaches in our room on two occasions - had to be sprayed. We still had a lovely holiday but after the outstanding holiday last year it was not up to par. Won’t be returning 🥲.

We have stayed at a few Riu palace hotels. They cost a little extra but the service is excellent and hotel themselves are always a little nicer. We have found the exception to this rule with palace boa vista. The room smelt musty ,had to have the window open as much as possible, which wasn't a lot as we over looke back of kitchens so had all the cooking smells every day. The fridge door was rusty as was the railbin the wardrobe and 80% of the chrome work in the bathroom. Tissues and shampoo missing from the bathroom, good leak from the shower screen/ door. Mini bar not topped up every 2 days had to request this every time. Balcony had sun at sunrise and at no other time throughout the day. Service in the bar areas was very slow and we went to the bar more times than the table service. At the bar staff seemed see you stood waiting and then go to the person who had just walked up. The food while plentiful is very much all the same taste which is quite bland, food marked up wrong which could be a problem for people with food allergies. Also had under cooked chicken and pork on a couple of occasions please check when cutting the meat that it is cooked properly. The steak restaurant was excellent as was the Kystal restaurant. We did love the climate and will go back to Cape Verde but will not be paying for a palace again there as its not worth the extra cost . But I do think this hotel should not be classed as a palace as the service is way below anything we have had in other countries. Overall I could not recommend this hotel and was very disappointed, we went for 2 weeks but both said we were ready to come home during the first week.
