The Royal Harbour Hotel

Ramsgate|0.65km from city centre
I have been using this hotel since at least 2006, maybe longer. It has always been business and, although the job I would be doing would leave me mentally and physically exhausted, I would look forward to my evenings and breakfast at the Royal Harbour. Unfortunately my last stay a few weeks ago has left me with a jaded view of this establishment and I will not return. So for new customers you should be aware that ”The Empire Room” is closed. It was a lovely restaurant underneath the hotel serving fantastic British food. No more. Breakfast used to be an event in itself. My favourite bit was the real honey comb and having this on toast while looking out over the harbour. No more. Apparently you can get a silly little breakfast in a bag now. I knew nothing of this and when I challenged the lady the next evening I was left, in no uncertain terms, that it was my fault for not reading this on the website. Yes, you can go to The Three Ships and pay for breakfast but it isn't cheap and I'm not sure how that would be on a wet morning or in the winter. It's also on the pricy side. I wasn't going to write this review because I have fond memories of the place and didn't want to upset the owner. However, I find myself working in this area again and realised that I will now have to find a different place to stay. The hotel itself is lovely as a place to rest your head and there are many other restaurants in Ramsgate; my favourite being The Magnolia ( Italian ) a few minutes walk away. I also appreciate that, in the days of Covid, breakfast was a thing that had to be dropped but we are moving past those days (hopefully) and it would seem that it is easier just not to provide this service. Caveat emptor.

The Royal Oak Hotel
3.9/526 Reviews
Stayed at the Royal Oak for 2 nights with a friend, we had separate rooms, one single and a double. On arrival we were told that the single had been upgraded to a double, thanks very much. Bathroom facilities were fantastic, plenty of white fluffy towels and a fab shower with plenty of pressure The bed was comfy with lots of pillows. Tea and coffee was supplied but I only had one sachet of milk, this was quickly put right by the man at the reception desk, anything else I required I was told to ask for, not a problem. I recommend this hotel and will stay here again. Shirley.
San Clu Hotel, Bar & Brasserie
3.7/579 Reviews
On the face of it - the Hotel looks ok, great location although you are slightly away (10 minute walk) away from the more livelier part of the promenade, the rooms are of a good size and well appointed, the carpet and decor is a little tired looking and in need of some work, the welcome from Pria the receptionist was excellent. That's the positive out of the way, the Barman and late night receptionist were awful, Xenophobic behaviour that is totally out of order - I've never been treated or spoken to like the way I was in this Hotel in all my time travelling and I have made a formal complaint regarding this as other prejudices towards other guests has since been revealed. If you are not from England this may be a place you would wish to avoid.
