The Cliffside Boutique Getaway

One thing's for certain- there's no better place to stay in Johannesburg than at The Cliffside. You'll be genuinely blown away by the welcoming nature of the staff, the homely feeling in the lounge and dining areas, and the incredibly comfortable rooms. They've thought of every possible detail and I was blown away by the incredible value for money when booking in to this detail-orientated bnb. Food is top-notch, the pool & sauna are divine, and it's a peaceful getaway without having to drive miles outside of the city. Will be back for many many more.

Perfection!! This is hands down the most incredible place we have stayed! Incredibly clean, beautiful in every way, their staff is above and beyond, the breakfast was scrumptious with so many meal options! We traveled in South Africa for two weeks and we felt the safest while staying here.

We had a lovely 3-night stay here to relax before flying home to the UK after a safari holiday. The atmosphere created by all the staff was indeed relaxed, welcoming and friendly. There were lots of nice little touches and attention to detail making the environment very pleasant. Our room (Sunrise) was bright and spacious with a great view towards the west from the balcony. The views were even better on the path up to the cliff (even though we didn’t quite make it to the top!) The quality of the food was excellent and made us change our plans from eating out to dining in for all of our meals. I hope we'll be able to visit again someday to spend longer and explore Johannesburg a bit more.

We are here for 2 nights before we join our tour group at a conventional hotel. What a lovely respite from our 36-hour flights with layover. Set in a residential area high in the Northcliff area near the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens this boutique hotel has lovely grounds with walking trails, a pool, and sauna. Truly an oasis of calm, separated from the noises and stress of city life. There is no restaurant on site, but a chef prepares dinners from a la carte selections. Breakfast, also a la carte, is included in the rate. The food is flavorful and delicious, as good if not better than any restaurant where we’ve dined. We are in the Cottage suite, which has a kitchenette, a sitting area, huge bathroom with shower and bidet, and a sunny patio. With clean rooms, an accommodating and attentive staff this is the perfect place to relax before or after a hectic tour.

A special mention must go to Chef BK, whose passion for food truly shines through every plate. The attention to detail and flavors in each dish made it clear that this was more than just a meal—it was an experience. Chef BK’s talent and dedication to quality elevated the entire breakfast, making it one to remember.

Our 3rd stay at this very special venue. Their home becomes yours, with attention to every detail. Inviting guests for an afternoon was consented to without hesitation. Thanks to the wonderful team at Cliffside for making our Jhb visits extra special each time.

Really nice staff. Very comfortable room. Great views. Good food. Good location. Spectacular views of the evening electric thunderstorms over western Joburg. The Ecopark behind the hotel has awesome views but is a tricky scramble. Take water and sun screen

Not a single detail has been overlooked at The Cliffside. The warm welcome on arrival, refreshing welcome drink, yummy room snacks, incredible dinner, generous breakfast, comfy bed, amazing art, breathtaking views, attentive staff. I only wish we could have stayed more than one night! We will definitely be back.
