TL:DR: Don't bother with the ”Presidential” level. BW & I stayed here for two nights while touring around the Black Hills. While pleasant enough, we would not return. To be clear, this review is of the ”Presidential” (”upscale” extra-charge) area of the hotel. I booked this, thinking it would be something special for part of a second (54th?) honeymoon. In some ways, it was perfectly acceptable. Quiet, top-floor room accessible only by key card. Mural graphics of local attractions as wallpaper. Designer chair and ottoman. A really good bed. So, not terrible. But it fell WAY short of extraordinary accommodation for extraordinary price. For example, despite being an ”exclusive” area of the hotel, there was no routinely-expected ”Presidential” lounge available to the guests who pony up. Towels were exchanged in the bath, but the bed was intentionally not made. This so-called limited service was stressed, along with the repeated ”Breakfast is for PURCHASE!” admonishment at check-in. In the bath, the provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were in cheap dispensers, hard to use, and the body wash simply refused to come out. The freezer in the in-room refrigerator was so encrusted with ice that we couldn't get an ice cream bar into it. The in-room coffee maker dispensed the cheapest ”something” that was mostly undrinkable. Power outlets were inadequate to charging today's routinely carried electronics. The ”desk” (a long, narrow bar along one wall) was plainly designed for form over function. Only two dresser drawers; we had to keep most of our clothes in our luggage. And only two small (think old European hotel) elevators to serve nine floors of a tour bus hotel. Imagine the crush in the morning when everyone is trying to get downstairs to the bus. Net, not terrible. But not worth a return trip unless you are on an inexpensive cattle car tour of the Black HIlls in one of the cheaper lower floor rooms.
Daily Mandatory Destination Charge includes: Self-parking for one vehicle; daily $5 beverage credit for use in hotel lounge or restaurant; two daily bottled waters.

Four stars for the room and the hotel in general. We had the King plus Sofa Sleeper room. It was huge - separated into two rooms, with one set up as a living room. The bed was soft and firm at the same time with a selection of pillows. Keurig station with coffee and tea. Mini fridge and a microwave. I wish we had more time here so that we could really take advantage of the space. Unfortunately, I chose this hotel based on the availability of the airport shuttle. Delta changed from morning to nighttime arrivals so we left a day early and added a night at this hotel so we could get a shuttle ride upon arrival and back the next day to pick up our rental car. Holiday Inn fell short as far as providing shuttle service, but the biggest problem was the conflicting information I got. I generously did not let this affect my four star rating for the hotel, despite the stress this caused me. The airlines changed the flight schedule to a later arrival - 10:50 pm. Seeing that the shuttle hours are posted as ending at 11pm, I contacted the hotel to ask if they were accommodating this new flight time. This was to be the new “normal” arrival time for this Delta flight. I called several times; I got a different answer each time. I emailed; I was told that they had several guests on that flight and could pick us up, no problem. The day of the flight we were notified of another change…arriving an hour later. I called to ask if could still get a ride at that time and was told, “Just call when you arrive.” I emailed about the updated arrival time and received the reply, “Noted.” I called upon arrival and the front desk person said we cannot be picked up as the shuttle stops at 11pm. Now it is late, I’m with a tired kid, there are no taxis or car hire services, and the hotel cannot provide transportation. Fortunately Rapid Shuttle stays open in the airport until the last flight has arrived and people have been serviced. So I shelled out the money to pay for a shuttle. While I was thrilled to have a ride, I would’ve just stayed at a cheaper hotel without shuttle service if I had know how this was going to play out. So no matter what they tell you, you will not get a ride after 11pm, even if your flight or your baggage is late. We set up a shuttle return the following morning to rent a car from the airport and had some hiccups on that end as well. The shuttle departs once an hour on the half hour (7:30, 8:30, etc). Although we were “scheduled” for 10:30, the shuttle didn’t come until 10:45. Not a big deal since we weren’t catching a flight, but you should be aware this is not a strict schedule.

Overall a great place to stay for an affordable price. They have a good breakfast, generally eggs and sausage one day and biscuits and gravy the next. They always had yogurt, granola, cereal, apples, bread, bagels, and oatmeal. Plus coffee, an assortment of juices and cold water. The room was clean and we didn't notice any chlorine smell, we were in room 414. I was nervous at first being a cross from the elevator, but we never heard it while sleeping, which was great. The fridge worked perfectly and the air conditioning was nice and cool. We generally decline room service, but if you expect daily service this is not your place. We kept getting texts saying they would clean every 3 nights, but they don't. Instead, they clean upon request. This was totally OK for us, we just asked for a refill of a couple things at the front desk and they kindly provided what we needed, we were there 6 nights. The pool was warm and hot tubs were great, I even went down the slide, which was fun. The bed was very comfortable and we never had issues parking. Great location to all the touristy things in SD and WY. My only critique would be that employees do not allow thier families to use the pool area, it should be for paying guests only.

Excellent
1164sherriwI picked this hotel due to the cancellation policy - several hotels in the area are nonrefundable. My life is in constant flux so nonrefundable wasn't for me. The location is good as its right off I90 in Rapid City. The hotel lobby was very pleasant with a warm greeting awaiting us and since we were Honor members I was given the choice of choosing what room and location I wanted. We picked the first floor and never had any noise problems. The rooms have Luxury vinyl flooring which I thought made sense (carpeting can get kinda gross) the room was very clean and kind of non traditional - There is no dressers but rather a long bench to put your luggage on with storage underneath. For toiletries instead of the usual hand soap and bottles of shampoos etc there were squeeze bottles with hand soap, lotion, shampoo all attached to the wall. I would have preferred pump dispensers as I found it hard to squeeze at times. There were hooks on the walls for handing coats etc. The shower was large again with squeeze bottles however the water flow from the shower was on water saver mode. It only had one large stream not the usual spray effect. I think this was due to The city being on high plains and not with great water sources. We got used to it. There isn't a microwave in the room nor a coffee maker. But the lobby had all that - I found the first floor location handy for this. The lobby offered coffee, water, tea and was well stocked. They had other treats for a cost. The breakfast was the usual pancakes, cereal, eggs, sausage fair and was open until 10am. If you didn't like the Hilton offers you were welcome to go to the Hampton Inn and use their facilities. My family and I really enjoyed our stay there. I would recommend it highly.
Great location and staff make this an inviting and comfy place to stay in Rapid City. We stayed for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy access to all the tourist attractions in the Black Hills. Bonus superstore Fleet Farm next door carries anything you might want, from treats to sunglasses.
GGuest UserWe use Marriott hotels whenever possible while traveling. The Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rapid City is a great place to stop for the night. We had a room with a king bed and two TV’s, a sofa sleeper and desk area. The room had a microwave, small refrigerator and coffee maker. The bathroom was large and sparkling clean. We always appreciate the rubber bathmats when provided. The pillows in all the Marriott hotels we have stayed in recently desperately need to be replaced. A good breakfast with hot and cold items is provided from 6:30-9 am each morning. Check-in was quick and easy and the people at the desk were very friendly and helpful. There is a large seating area in front of the hotel with a fire pit. The parking lot is large and handicapped spots are right up front. There are lots of restaurants and fast-food places nearby. The water was too soft, and we felt slimy after showering or washing our hands like we couldn’t get the soap off. We did have one major problem. We were on the third floor and the wind that night was howling around the building and as it turned out, we discovered that the window in our room was broken and wouldn’t close properly, so the noise was intensified, and we didn’t get much sleep if any that night. After driving all day and seeing lots of different sites, we had hoped for a good night’s sleep. Ask for a lower floor room.
PPaul A BAs far as American Box Hotels are concerned (I'm not a big fan of their lack of character), this is as good as they get. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, and the overall quality of the stay is 1st rate. Price was in line with what the rest of the market was doing.
PPam GVery comfortable beds and plenty of pillows (I like lots!) The slide, pool, and hot tub were awesome. My 13-year-old particularly liked the slide. Rapid City is located very close to all the wonderful attractions around here. I would definitely stay here again.
The pillows are the fluffiest I've ever seen. Beds are very comfortable, and the staff are amazingly awesome and courteous. Check out was simple and easy . Oh and not to forget what an great breakfast with lots to choose from.woukd definitely stay again.
I’m in Rapid City pretty frequently for work and I’ve stayed at quite a few hotels, this will now be my go to when I stay here. Great price, super clean modern rooms, comfy bed and it was very quiet all night. Directly off the interstate so it’s a great location but it’s still not noisy. Staff was very friendly when I was checking in. The room has a nice TV and a very soft blanket and the AC works very good. Room is a spacious, has a kitchenette and a full size fridge and there’s a truck stop within walking distance if you want to save some money and buy food to cook yourself. From my experience every hotel in Rapid City is either really expensive or really sketchy but this place is neither! Couldn’t recommend this place enough!!
Jjwinsk953847The remodel was all done when I arrived and staff was very friendly. Any questions I had the Stephanie was always willing to answer and any concerns she would address them right away. The breakfast was hot and had several options to choose from. Pool was nice to swim in, but be aware there is no hot tub.
PPassenger32081710545Had the misfortune of staying at the Econo Lodge Black Hills for a couple nights in early November. I picked one of the cheapest rooms in the area, and the old saying is true - you get what you pay for! My room had bed bugs! I was laying on the bed for a while. I then noticed one little bug running around on the sheet, then two, then three. Upon closer examination, there were dozens of them - yuck! I travel a lot and had never encountered bed bugs before. I actually had to Google what they looked like. Luckily I had not slept overnight on the bed yet, but had lied down long enough to get some bites (didn’t even feel the bites). I immediately took a hot shower, packed up and left the room. Upon reporting this to the front desk, they offered to refund my money if I wanted to leave. It was late and I just switched rooms to another wing of the hotel. You can be sure I checked that room that it didn’t have bed bugs. The front desk clerk was apologetic about the situation, but the Hotel Manager was not (she was standing there when I reported it, but I did not know she was the Hotel Manager at the time). I know these things happen. I called her two times after I checked out, but she never returned my calls. That is not good customer service. Be careful about this hotel.
