Sheraton Colonia Golf & Spa Resort

Nice place, friendly staff, family-oriented rather than couples-oriented. Some moments of truth were subpar for a 5 star hotel. It’s probably a 4.5 hotel, not 5.

This is a large resort with a lot of families w kids, many loud ones. The location is good if you're looking for peaceful surroundings but terrible in terms of the historical center. It's 60-90 minutes walk to anywhere you want to go in the center, Uber doesn't work and taxis are expensive and hard to get from the street. The one that the hotel called for me overcharged us so you found a different one and contacted him directly afterwards. Should be no more than 400 uyu per trip they have bicycles for loan but since they require you to return them by 7:00 p.m. they are fairly useless for dinner plans. Check in was pretty slow and disorganized, Plus they make you wear a stupid bracelet like an all-inclusive and they insist that you go somewhere else to make a booking for breakfast reservation. Not very five star experience. We got a nice upgrade for Marriott status and also a nice welcome plate of sweets left in the room later. Bed was very comfortable, towels were not in good condition, room and bathroom were dated and the rug was dirty and had a huge ripple in it. Renovations needed all around. Breakfast was pretty good buffet, not quite five star international standard but decent compared to the other four star hotels we stayed at in Uruguay. Grounds are nice for taking walks and for jogging, going to the beach. Overall not a bad property if you have a car or don't mind being a bit isolated from the town. We were happy for a short stay but if you plan to spend a lot of time in the barrio historico it might be better to stay somewhere closer

We have spent two nights at Sheraton in Colonia. We went mainly because it was one of the few places with spa/bigger pools. That part was nice and more or less clean (some tiles missing - some dirt in the pools but not too much). The deck chairs on the other hand were very dirty and all in all the place around the pool wasn't clean - it looked like it hasn't been cleaned for several days and the same dirt was by the pool the day after. The worst part was the room - the view was astonishing but the room was really old, dirty and not very well taken care of. The whole hotel wasn't really taken good care of, just the entrance and the outside were OK. The breakfast was special: The food that needed cooling (cheese, butter and so) were chilled with a fan (30 degrees outside - a fan only throws around hot air) - so the butter was melt and the cheese even had mould on it. We only ate dinner there once - the food was OK but also here the glasses weren't really clean and the tablecloth had weird stains and dirty on it. One thing that stood out was that the staff only spoke Spanish – no English nor Portuguese or any other language. So, all and all it was a disappointment - I expected more from a Sheraton! I have been to hotels with less "hotel stars" that were way cleaner, newer and really taken care of. Here it just seems like they don't care.

Beautiful hotel overlooking the Rio de La Plata, with a view in the distance of the sky line of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant selection for breakfast buffet was huge and delicious; the evening menu was equally delicious. Great pool area with multiple large pools, all overlooking the golf course. Bikes to borrow if you want to cycle through the neighborhood and visit the amazing beach down the road. Well worth the drive from Montevideo, or the Buquebus crossing from Buenos Aires!
